  • Since October is fire safety month Glendale fire department and Glendale libraries teamed up to create a firefighter led story time and fire truck time. We checked it out last week and had a blast. This Friday at the Grandview library at 4:00 pm it’s happening again. Take your little fire fighter to join the fun.

  • Very soon after Grant and I met, we planned our first trip to Joshua Tree. He’d never been and I love the desert so much. In that trip we smoked weed, took lots of photos, played music, made love in every corner of the Airbnb, ate stale rice when every restaurant had closed, and had to figure out how to unstuck our car from the sand in the driveway under the melting summery sun. That trip showed us how much fun we could have, but most importantly for me, it showed us how peacefully we were able to coexist. How we could handle difficulties gracefully and how we liked to travel the same way. I knew he was the one as we dumped buckets of water under the tires of the car to create traction — an idea I had that totally worked, btw. I love the desert. It was only fitting that Elena’s first trip should be to the desert. A place where we could get away and still feel connected to the postpartum puddle and the slowness I’ve so intentionally kept until now. This photo was a little creative outburst inspired by all the pretty things in @wearethewildwmn’s wild abode and a wanting to feel pretty and one with the land. Shot at the @wildabodejoshuatree during golden hour.

  • Ring slings are quickly becoming a top choice for caregivers wanting to carry their 👶. The simplicity and compact nature make it a great option for on the go families. While it may take a little practice (like most things parenting!) to master it, ring slings have the potential to be a quick way to get baby in a carrier without to much fuss. 🙌🏽

  • Remember the 🔟 year challenge!? I was recently asked to think about who I was 10 years ago and what I would say to that girl? Here is what I’d tell her:
.
▪️It’s more important to love yourself for who you are instead of trying to be who others want you to be.
▪️Family time is the MOST important time! It’s ok to say no to social events to be with your crew.
▪️Your job will still be there if you take a day for your health (physical or mental).
▪️Travel before kids.
▪️Your husband really will get hotter with age!
▪️Speaking of husband - show up for him, support him, make time for him.
▪️You still have drama and challenges 10 years later, you just handle them differently.
▪️Dream big...those who should be in your corner will support you!
▪️Find your tribe and love them hard!
▪️Keep eating the pizza and drinking the wine but also, take care of you’re body - it’s the only one you’ve got.
▪️God is so good!
.
Although I’d love time to slow down a bit, especially when it comes to my kids growing up, I don’t mind getting older. I’ve learned so much so far and I’m looking forward to the many lessons and challenges ahead! 💕

  • I used to think two things regularly about dinner:
.
1. The meals needed to be fancy, full of ingredients, and if they didn’t take an hour to make, I wasn’t providing my family a “good enough dinner”.
.
2. I was the one who needed to do the cooking. Nate could grill but dinner should “fall on me”.
.
Boy I’m glad I don’t believe those things anymore! Since January, every Friday I am emailed a weekly meal plan. We choose what meals we want to use and once every week we choose to have BRINNER! Breakfast for dinner. It’s easy, it’s quick, the kids can help and every meal plan emailed includes a new breakfast idea!
.
What I’ve learned is that abs are made in the kitchen and it’s sometimes a lot easier than an actual core workout. You see, we complicate healthy eating. Which is why so many people “fall of the bandwagon” or are always changing diets. I’m thankful to have a plan and weekly resources that are EASY to follow AND family friendly! We are going on 10 months of our healthy eating journey. We’ve cut nothing out of our diets, still enjoy the treats and the wine, and can eat out as we please. Yet, Nate and I continue to lose weight and time muscles. I’d say the program is working!
.
If you’d like to get your hands on the upcoming weeks meal plan (FREE), drop your favorite food emoji below and I’ll be in touch! 🍣🍷🍩

  • Ok, I have something to admit. I’m OBSESSED with Succession on HBO.

But the other HUGE thing I want to share with you is that my first 1:1 coaching session with @mslucyliu has already taught me how to kiss overwhelmed goodbye! 💋

So because of that… starting this Wednesday I will alternate each week between Brunch with Baby & Treats with Toddlers.

All ages (including newborns) are welcome to the Treats with Toddlers 3 pm class this week. And weather permitting, I will host at least half of the toddler class outside, giving the kids plenty of space to explore!

This week, I am thrilled to have Anet, a Certified Sleep Consultant from @learn.eat.sleep! We just started working with her to help me get Riley to sleep through the night. And OMG IT’S BEEN WORKING!!! 😴

Anet will answer all your sleep questions and give her 7 Tips for a Sweet Slumber! So whether you want to know about transitioning to one nap a day OR how to get your baby to start sleeping for more than 2 hours at a time, Anet is here to save the day!

Hit me up with a DM or email me at JENN @ ModernHypno dot com to reserve your spot for this Wednesday, October 9th! 📲

xo,
Jenn

  • Scheduled for 10/1 on my calendar is a note to announce Fall Mini Sessions!!! However, today is 9/18 and I’ve slowly been getting emails already from interested individuals. I’ve also recently been reminded that the holidays always seem to creep up on us and calendars fill up before we know it! So I thought I’d go ahead and get these dates out to anyone looking for personal, couple, or family photos just in time for the holidays 😊 This year’s sessions will take place in Pasadena, CA with morning and evening sessions Tuesday 11/5-Friday 11/8. If you’d like more details, please email me at info@katrinakimphoto.com

  • We took Riley to he first Dodger Game today. She insisted on wearing pearls. This was a pretty eventful week for this little family.
Ric and I work so hard to build a business we can pass on to our daughter (10-12 hour days) we miss out a lot on being a "normal family" sometimes.
So between concerts, baseball games and pool parties, we did a lot of catching up this week.
Being in conference meetings with adults, corporate events, and watching mommy and daddy do a lot of public speaking has become Riley's norm.
For any of you parents building a business out there. It is hard to detach yourself from operating from a place of guilt.
Just know that your kids model what they see and by watching you stretch to become a better version of yourself, they too learn to increase their own capacity. @plan__your__future

  • This was my first pregnancy, 6 years ago with Amelie. I took a similar photo every single week and I didn’t know it then, but this was not only the beginning of my motherhood journey, but also of my love for photography. I had learned about cameras, and lighting and developing film in a dark room as a graphic design student and later in film school. But I never though much of it, until I discovered the power it had in helping me (and others), capture the fleeting story of pregnancy and life at home raising people. A time so intense ... so full of uncertainty and lack of control. So challenging it feels it’ll never end, so beautiful you wish you could have it forever ... so contradictory. And at the end, really, just a memory. As animals in this earth, reproduction is our main purpose, and many of us spend our most productive adult years doing so. And as someone deeply aware of the impermanence of this existence I hold on to photography as my most loved way to document my story. Maybe just for myself, when I’m older and amazed at how fast it all passed in retrospect. Maybe for my kids who may want to revisit my story as a way to begin to understand theirs. Or for their kids, and the kids of their kids. #mindfulmamacircle
