  • One of the girls clogged the bathroom sink with glue, paint, and clay face mask this morning.. 😳 It had been a long morning of meltdowns, arguing, and messes already and I lost my temper. Once we all calmed down (and unclogged the sink) I found out she was just trying to make slime, she loves to experiment so this was not surprising. 👩‍🔬🧪 We had a talk about what does and doesn't go down the sink, dealt with the consequences, and gave some hugs.. Thank goodness my kids are so willing to forgive me when I lose my temper and yell ❤️

  • She gets in bed with me nearly every night and then in the morning switches sides so she right on top of me.. 😒 As much as I love it I also want my bed back 😂 Anyone else have a child who always ends up in bed with them at some point in the night?

  • A quick wee post from the world of parental leave. A bit off topic from my usual Chinese painting centred feed, but so is my life for this month! This my eldest boy with our god daughter, in their sand tractor on a beach in Suffolk, and the two of them again by a campfire me and the boy built together by some glorious glamping yurts. Also a Henry Moore spotted at Snape Maltings for the requisite bit of art.

Huge thanks for the progressive UK employment legislation that made this possible, the supportive employer in @Christiesinc who let me split my leave in two parts, and the hardworking colleagues in London and Hong Kong who are covering my core duties while I’m with my family!

  • This is a well needed consultation and it's great that the Govt are recognising the need to help fathers be more involved. Helping dads share more of the childcare means positive benefits for family, relationships, business and society.
The focus on Shared Parental Leave, Parental Leave, the publishing of leave policies through recruitment & extended leave for neonatal care is fantastic.

MusicFootballFatherhood will be fully supporting this consultation. We believe it can be a massive step for gender equality at work & in the home.

  • Funny how even in the midst of all the chaos our babes are and will always be our happy place. No matter what. At that moment when they throw their arms up so we can pick them up, cry because they need us, come sit on our lap, or simply come and cuddle next to us, nothing else matters. Nothing. ❤️

  • “And here we are baby girl. 4 months old, and the last official day of my maternity leave. I know I’m supposed to teach you to nap on your own, but I’m going to hold you a little extra and let you hold onto me. In four months you have fundamentally changed my world and changed me. I cherished our 4 months together, even on the really hard days. But life is change, both the hard and good kinds. We’ll learn our new ways and we’ll both be stronger for it. But near or far, know that I always love you more than I ever dreamed possible.
⠀
In my 4 months of leave I learned a few things:
⠀
1️⃣- mothers are unbelievably amazing. Full stop. 2️⃣- we need to do so much better for women in this country. Women need choice, all kinds of choice. We need supportive parental leave policies. I’m so grateful for my time, but damn sometimes I wish I was Canadian. I know I’m lucky and it seems unimaginable that in this country we force some mothers to go back to work mere weeks after giving birth. That needs to change.
3️⃣- being a mother is the hardest and most rewarding job there is. I didn’t fully understand before. So to the moms I know who have already done this, I’m sending you my utmost admiration. For the moms-to-be I know, I’m sending you luck and strength. And for me I’m going to keep holding you close baby girl and remembering these moments with you always.” — Emily B. // @emilybhatti
