Anne-Marie’s tribe of women, the beach town literati, wore flared trousers under their caftans. In their straw bags were: a maybelline lip gloss, change purse, comb, and a New Yorker folded in half along the long edge that doubled as a fly swatter. In their square Volvos and chug-chug BMW 2002s were Vivaldi cassettes and wax paper bags of sliced carrots for the freckled kids in the backseat. On their stoves were boiling pots of Soup Au Pistou (for years I mistakenly assumed this meant “soup of pea stew”) and chilled bottles of Pedro Domecq Tio Pepe or La Ina. In the evening, after dinner, they could be found tucked into the corner of their tailored chintz sofas, reading John Updike. With their Pappagallo espadrilles resting on the sisal next to the cat.

  • This hilarious photo comes with an update and an important message!

1st up: Arch saw the vet today. They provided him with a stethoscope top hat and diagnosed his wound as a feather cyst, removed it, he is on an antibiotic and birdie advil for a bit and has a follow up appt next week. He now has a little hole where the cyst used to be. Poor baby. Thank you all for your comments and well wishes. You guys are so sweet!

2nd: For anyone doing their #research on getting a #pet : Birds are not a light commitment! Few pets are a light responsibility but birds are quite high maintenance. I adore my little floofs but I also have no life outside of work so I am able to devote all my time to them; not everyone else has that "luxury." Parrots are truly like toddlers in that they need constant stimulation and attention. In addition to being so cute and sweet and smart, they also chew on things, destroy books, hide illness well and require specific diets and behaviors. If you want to do it right, be prepared for a true commitment that is not all fun and games. Example: Have you seen Archie's elbows? They're delectable. But I cannot touch them, his back, his under wings or let him sit on my shoulders because it reinforces bad behaviors. #knowbeforeyougo

  • So I’ve been asked a few times if greys are good with kids. People also see videos with our baby and think she’s so gentle with him. I want to clarify that she’s actually not that friendly.
I do believe they can become best friends but
maybe with a lot of guidance and training and of course, TIME.
Kids have very fast movements. What parrot doesn’t attack anything that’s coming at them? Greys are also known to be one person birds. I know they attack everyone else that is not their “person”. You are able to be around them - to a certain extent. We’ve had Odis since she was 4 months old and we were told this. So we wanted to prove that statement wrong. So us, the parents, bonded with her equally. And in the end, she still preferred dad over mom.
We are attempting to get Odis to bond with baby, but of course, it’s a LONG PROCESS. It’s been 10 months of trying to get her to be “okay” with him. We’ve gone from being scared of baby to being able to stand right next to him. We’ve taught her “gentle” and as you can see shes testing.
Am I terrified of Odis hurting baby? YES. TERRIFIED. But I also want baby to know that she’s not scary, and being around her we have to be careful. Parrots also feed off of your energy. And baby, doesn’t seem to be fearful of her, just more curious.

We obviously watch and observe her body language and here, she’s calm and relaxed.
BODY LANGUAGE IS VERY IMPORTANT. *You know your parrot and it’s limits, and this is only my opinion on what I’ve seen first hand. I just wanted to share with you all ☺️*
