  • It can't be put any more simply! Breastfeeding is a choice that you have taken and for some of us it comes easily and for some it comes with a lot of persistance, devotion and pure determination. How ever your journey started, there will be more bumps along the way and some days you might question your decision to breastfeed. Other mums seem to have more free time, less dependancy, more freedom and well, what looks like to be a greener lawn 😉

You'll never know if their lives are actually easier or better than yours. But I hope, with time that you'll find a growing love for breastfeeding. The positives will out weigh the negatives. Those little moments together are golden and only yours. As humans we develop our emotional brains very early on, making breastfeeding so important to that development. The closeness and security it offers. The consistancy. The love. Breastfeeding is to early childhood development what the umbilical cord is to the unborn baby growing in the womb. 🤰

Heres to you for being amazing. We are growing the next generation and may they be empathetic, patient, confident and AMAZING too. 💗

  • This morning I did something I haven't done in a long time, whilst Alice had a nap I sat there and held her. As a newborn I used to do this every afternoon, I loved that time just me and her chilled out. But as babies get older life changes and you see nap time as a chance to get some jobs done. All to often us Mums are told we can 'do this' or 'get that done' while the baby sleeps and yes it's true. In the hour or so Alice sleeps I can get the washing out the washer, do the pots, do some #KPink work. But soon them nap times will disappear and she won't want to sleep in my arms anymore and them times are lost!! 😥 so this morning the clothes are in the washer, the pots are piled up and KPink can wait....just a little😊

Slow down Mummy, enjoy your little one, this day won't come around again 🤱😍

  • Mother Nature 🌳
_______________________________________________________
Is there any greater medicine for new mama #fatigue? I genuinely think not...even on days when I have only had 4 hours of sleep, a stroll through the trees amidst birdsong is guaranteed to make me feel alive again! If you’re a new mama struggling to get through the days on barely any sleep, let Mother Nature baby you for a little while. Even when visiting family in the city, a stroll in the sunshine, wind or rain makes such a difference to my mindset. It gives you (& babe ❤️) the chance to look at the sky & simply breathe... _______________________________________________________

If you time it right, a juicy bonus may be that your little falls asleep too 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 #winningatlife

  • My whole world 🌎❤️ ‘You can’t over cuddle a baby’ is what I like to tell myself when I read that you shouldn’t let them sleep on you all the time and you’re creating a rod you your own back. The way I see it is she’s only going to be this tiny for such a short period of time and I want to soak in all the newborn cuddles that I can because they’re literally my favourite thing is the whole world. The tiny little noises and faces she makes when she’s in a light sleep as so adorable and we’re only going to get this time with her once 💕💫 So cuddle your baby as much as you want and let them sleep on you whenever you want because you are their everything ❤️ #newmum #5weeksold

  • 💦 Swimming 💦
.
I have always loved the water and have fond memories of my mum taking me swimming when I was little. Jumping in off the side, sliding down her legs, swimming underwater and pretending to be chased by a shark (with mum singing the Jaws music- still haunts me now 😂).
.
I can’t wait to make the same memories with Freya. I’m starting her as young as possible so that she is familiar with the water. Plus it’s an activity we can do together whilst I build my physical strength back up ✌🏻
.
She probably won’t remember these early trips to the pool but she’ll be gaining in confidence with each swim and be excited about trying new things 🥰

  • I didn't love being pregnant but I loved knowing we shared the same body as you grew for 40 weeks, your heart right next to mine.

I didn't love my leaking, swollen, stretched, slow, heavy and sore post partum body. But I loved knowing it had carried you here safely, earthside.

I didn't love breastfeeding, the cracked torn nipples, the mastitis, the engorged breasts. But I loved knowing I'd tried my best and fed you from my body for 8 weeks.

I didn't love not knowing what your cries meant in those early days or how fragile you felt, I thought I could break you. But I loved knowing I knew instinctively how to hold you close to my heart.

I didn't love the anxiety, the mood swings, the feelings of overwhelm. But I loved the intoxicating love that engulfed me at just the thought of you.

I didn't love not being able to do what I wanted when I wanted, particularly sleep ha. But I loved being trapped on the couch, hypnotized by the smell of you, hanging off every little coo, smile and stretch.

I didn't love the post partum complications like prolapse, that I'll manage for the rest of my life. But I love the strength and confidence those lessons and experiences shook out of me.

I didn't love that nothing about motherhood made sense yet everything did make sense, at the same time. But I love that even though I had no idea what I was doing, I knew I was born to be your mum and I do love everything single little thing about you.

  • I mean, I'm probably not gracing the cover of sports illustrated anytime soon. But maybe if we saw more diversity of post partum bodies vs. just ones who "bounced back" - putting a stretched and scarred belly on the cover wouldn't even be a big deal?
I know everytime I post pics like these I lose followers, often people I know. And it used to upset me but I've realized I'm not posting these pictures for them. I'm posting them for old me, who was so attached to her old body, her old identity of being fit and strong, yet always never quite enough. And I'm posting them for the women out there who like old me, were so upset, ashamed, threatened, in denial, that the body they knew, wasn't coming back post partum.
We don't all bounce back, some of us stretch and scar, some of us are left with lifelong complications, but all of us are changed in some way as we become mothers.
This is not the journey I had in mind as I dreamed about becoming a mum, and the changes (now) are part of this (incredibly privileged) story I get to share with the world. Without them, I doubt I would have had the courage to share my words with the world. Which is sad, because everytime I do, I grow, I heal, and it feels exponential - which is exciting because who knows where this path of growth will take me.
So thanks for being here and listening, I love that there is a little community of women (and men) here in my corner listening as I share this stuff. I hope that wherever you are, at whatever stage in your journey of self you are in - you're OK, you are learning, you are healing and you are growing, one day at a time x.
