  • Due to the angle of the clavicles, decline presses allow activation of both the lower and upper pecs, thus serving as the best exercises for pec development. To stabilize the weight overhead in an incline position, the lower-pec fibers must not contract fully. Because of the direction of the fibers making up the lower half of the pec, their contraction pulls the arms toward the feet.

In a decline position, all fibers—including the clavicular fibers—are stretched at the bottom position of the decline chest press. Thus, even the clavicular or upper fibers of the pecs contract to push the bar up from a decline position.

A study conducted at Wayne State College in Nebraska demonstrated that both upper and lower-pec fibers are engaged during decline press (-15 degrees) while only upper-pec fibers are engaged during incline press (+30 degrees). Decline bench presses induce greater overall activation of the pecs compared with the incline bench. Because of the structure of the pectoralis muscle, it can and should be trained at a variety of angles.

When having to choose between incline or decline presses, be mindful that because the upper pecs are engaged during both incline and decline bench positions, while the lower pecs are only engaged during decline pressing, incline bench should not serve as the sole pec movement if full pec development is the goal.

Even though I was already eating somewhat healthy and doing BJJ regularly in 2017, my face didn't look so great. It was easy to deal with it most days because I'd just avoid a mirror. But one day while rolling, my face bled all over this person's white gi. I felt so bad and embarrassed. But most importantly, I really wanted to figure out why I still had acne at age 27.
It took me two years but I figured out what caused these break outs. Although it was difficult I had to cut out refined sugars, fried food and dairy out of my diet. I also implemented regular sauna use, eating fruit, meditation, and making my meals healthier by adding super foods(ex. Maca root, turmeric, chia seeds, etc.)
Picture on the right is me now at age 29. My acne problem has drastically reduced and I also have more energy now than I did in my early 20s. 
Everyone is different so it may or may not work for you but if you'd like to know more just let me know 😊

  • Effective self massage for stiff ankles, tight calves, Achilles issues and/or shin splints. Works even better when you get two thumbs together in these up and down strokes 👍🏼👍🏼 I use a combo of #rocksauce (kinda like icy hot) and #coconutoil to glide easily. Shout out to my fellow chiro colleagues @jcglemb and @astrassel from @woodhavenhealth in Burlington, Vermont for recommending Rock Sauce. It’s saving my ankles and calves as I increase my mileage!! 🏃‍♀️🙏🏼
