  • I realise it’s amazingly sunny in London this weekend (🙌🏻) and hopefully everyone is out and about this Easter weekend but I haven’t shared a #moviestoinspire in a while so here’s another oldie but a goodie - “Moulin Rouge”. A beautiful, over the top, feast for the eyes ❤️ #bazluhrman #cinematography #design

And...that’s a wrap on Without You, our APN film. As 2nd AD, I was out of my usual comfort as an actor, and given a key position on this project, I was unsure as to how I would’ve performed in this environment. But, man, was I wrong to ever judge the level of another position on a film crew. The level of work the crew puts up, let alone, the AD department, blows my mind. It’s fast paced pre-planning/ scheduling reminds me a lot of how an actor has to break down their characters. As 2nd AD, this time, I just had to break down everyone’s schedules. On this set, we had our ups and downs, our trials, and our errors, but we still managed to get this film done.

On Day 3, our final day, about halfway through our last scene, it starts to rain. Not just drizzling, but pouring down, poncho weather rain. The cast rush inside, while the crew gets everything safely out of the rain. We said we would give the location 30 minutes. If it didn’t stop raining we’d wrap, and end up not getting our last shot of our film...So, we’re their, spirits down, just waiting to hear one of our teachers to call it a wrap. I remember sitting next to our director, @mikeyywilliamss and all we could do was pray that the rain would give us a break. Just if we could have gotten that Last Shot. 30 minutes pass, and through a series of fluxes in the storm, the rain settled, finally, settled. Puddles still on the ground, and hope in mine and Mikey’s eyes, we grab the crew and head back out to get our final shot. Not a single drop stopped us the rest of the night.

To me, this just goes to show the level of dedication and care one group can have for an overall idea. As an actor, through my character, it is my job to bring the vision of a director to life. As an actor, I am serving a greater purpose when I walk into that set. I’m not there for me, I’m there to make art. so it can in return provide the same level of affection for others that I once fell in love with. I love making movies, I love my soon to be job.

  • A Quiet Place was a decent movie, albeit with some glaringly obvious plot holes. Still, I’m looking forward to the sequel, and this fact is a clever little detail. What did you think of A Quiet Place? Are you looking forward to the sequel?
