  • Molly the Cow was at TCCS for Farmer Appreciation today! In addition to Molly, we had classes of students outside to learn how milk gets from the cow to the cafeteria, they met real farmers, and had some hands on fun milking a cow, and petting a live pony and bunny! #wearetng #momentsmatter #tngfeedskids #tidioutecommunitycharterschool

  • Today we celebrate our graduating OVR student. We are so proud of him and the work he has done this year. He has made all of us laugh, cry tears of joy, and appreciate the little things. We sure will miss him and the energy he brought into our lives.

We also celebrate Ms. Bev who worked so close with our student this year. She showed so much compassion, understanding, patience, and love that she is an inspiration to our department and the true definition of what #momentsmatter is about. Thank you Bev!

  • I asked Ryan to spin Chelsea, and he did so with the force of a million spinning tops. Like the fastest spin I've ever seen. It was great. They also fed me a donut after and made me laugh endlessly. Also great.

  • Hello Dear Hearts!

I have some exciting news!

The third workbook in my educational guide series, the Authentic Artist Photography Workshop Guide, is coming THIS Friday with a huge flash sale. I wanted to take a moment to share that I will be hosting a huge giveaway here tonight and on Facebook and want to give it to you AND a friend! I Know reach has been pretty poor, so I am hoping that by posting with just a bit of fair notice will help. Hoping being the key word ha! Keep an eye out here around 7pm MTN time.

This guide is incredibly close to my heart. It is likely the most vulnerable, transparent thing I have ever decided to put out there. I admit it took a bit of courage on my part. I have a huge desire to serve and help and teach, so I felt this was the time to jump in head on. There is a crisis of self confidence in our industry and so I really delve into so many of the aspects of being an artist that mean so much to each of us. The parts that make us who we are. This guide is full of information on how to battle the demons of comparison and help nurture that beautiful creative voice that needs to be heard. It also teaches you practical ways to get authentic, genuine moments and emotions and all of the emotional prompts I use on my sessions. I share WHY I choose the light I do and how I utilize that to my benefit whether it's gorgeous backlit days or moody overcast weather. I share the compositions I choose to best tell a story and all the ways in which I take control back on my sessions and put my families at ease. And there is so much more than that. This is just scratching the surface.

Regardless of where you are right now in your journey, there is something here for you. And I hope so much to have the opportunity to share that with you. ❤️

  • Photography saved me. It changed my life. It changed the life of my family. If that sounds dramatic...it’s because it is. I know it’s easy to look at these squares and find the best parts of me. It’s easy to see the work I make now and assume it came easy. The truth is I am one of the photographers that had to fight for it. I had to make a lot of mistakes to get here. I lost a lot of hours in the beginning. Hours that I likely haven’t learned to reclaim just yet. I spent countless late nights and early mornings pouring over free tutorials and took more bad photos than good ones trying to figure it all out. I admittedly had no aspirations in those beginning days to make a business out of this. If I am being transparent, I was more lonely than anything and needed something for me. My husband worked long hours away from home, and we lived on the third floor of a dank apartment building barely making it through while trying to be everything to three small children that relied on me for everything. We barely had the means to put food on the table. We were asking for extension after extension on our bills. We had more times than I can count that our lights got cut off or our phone was disconnected, which further isolated me and made me feel separated from the family we had out of town. I’ve been with my husband since I was sixteen, we didn’t sign up for an easy life... but things got pretty dark for a while. I was already prone to depression and anxiety so this all was a recipe for constant fear and heartbreak.

But one year we got our income tax refund and my husband surprised me with a used entry level DSLR. And I had something to hold onto. Something tangible. Something just for me. I felt guilt and almost sold that camera so many times. A small voice told me to hold on. There weren’t really photography forums or inspiration pages or an Instagram community. There weren’t seasoned photographers willing to give me the time of day or workshops I could take or anything of that nature. None of that existed. So I kept plugging along. It’s a blur now looking back, but without that struggle I wouldn’t have made the choices that got me here. If this is you, don’t give up. ❤
