  • In the northern hemisphere, March is the first said month you can see the Milky Way. It rises in the SE portion of the sky shortly before the sun rises. So hurry up and wait. This was taken at 4:53AM and by 5:12AM there was enough light in the sky it was gone, even with a 6:29AM sunrise. So I guess when the new moon falls in late February, you can technically chase the Milky Way in the winter!

  • Milky way Monday... Shot last year during my trip to #heartlake in Mount Shasta area. I've worked on this a couple times but never quite liked it enough to post.
This stream is coming off of the overflow of Heart lake that goes down to Castle lake. I'm sitting awkwardly over on a rock and setup in the stream with my back towards the steep drop off. (if you've been there you know what I'm talking about). Not a recommended setup lol 😂 I was so disappointed I didn't like the shots so much as I expected too as this was a difficult shot to get for me. They hike back to the car at 3:00 a.m. was also pretty difficult. I was lost for about 20 minutes while my dog was waiting on the path for me... Probably just feet away. 🤣

  • 👈SWIPE👉 Who has captured the 2020 MW already?
On the morning of 2/19/20 I fought against the rising moon and rising sun to capture the rising Milky Way core just above the horizon. The time window is tight right now for this, as we are still in the early days of the 2020 Milky Way season. I only had time for 27 shots - fewer than I would have liked to stack, but this was a time-limited opportunity! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀27 exposures stacked for noise reduction, each 13@seconds, f/2.8, ISO 6,400. Taken using my @nikonusa D810 + @sigmaphoto 20mm Art lens.
