  • How long does it take to get better? Be it improving at a particular skill or healing something, it usually takes longer than we’d like, right? It can be easy to fall into the trap of treating the decision to change, or the recognition of the need for healing, as the change/healing itself. Wanting to flick the switch and be done with it. Fixed! Solved! Problem over! (...but wait, why is it still here?)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our world doesn’t easily make room for process. For the slow drip of actual change, actual healing. There is messiness and uncertainty to contend with between points A and B, and living with that messiness is not something us humans are very good at naturally. It is, however, something we can practice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And I write this because it’s taken me nearly three weeks to really land back in my London life, after these sandy Australian toes in October, and I was feeling frustrated at my own slow process. A small reminder for me and you that things take time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I also write this because holding space for the slow drip of change is what I love to do. To work long term, in a personalised way, so that you can learn to sit with the messiness of real change, real healing, real meeting of yourself. This is why I offer 1:1 sessions, and why it’s one of my favourite ways to teach. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1:1 teaching might be a good fit if you’re feeling the call to slow down and let things take the time that they need, to make change from a place of care rather than chastising and bullying yourself, to let things get a little messy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re curious, get in touch. I’ll be offering a festive 1:1 special to the folks on my mailing list, so make sure you’re signed up (link in bio, obvs), and you can DM me with any questions 💕

  • I've just got to finish this last assignment, then I'll be alright .

I've just got to start going to the gym more regularly and get a better handle of my stress, then I know everything will be okay .

I've just got to... .

Sound familiar?

Do you feel like everything has to be almost perfect for you to be okay? 🙋 I definitely feel like this sometimes .

I want to challenge myself to be okay no matter how things are. I want to have a faith in God that gives me strength, joy and contentment no matter what the situation. I want to be able to sit in my messy house, with my messy baby and my clutter filled mind, and still be able to find peace .

You don't have to be okay everyday, all the time .

But know that with God, you can be okay, even when things are hectic and messy. YOU CAN BE OKAY, even when things don't turn out how you want or expect . 🌻

  • This fall weather has me struggling to get up this morning. Don’t want to get out of my @buffy . It’s like sleeping on a cloud, while staying at the perfect temperature; dreamy. #partnership #unmadebeds

  • I wonder who’s going to tattle on who more in the future. My bet is Landon’s always going to be getting into something and Levi’s going to be there saying “this is a bad idea” 🤣

  • 🦄 Success and perfection have little in common. I’m talking about soul-deep, satisfying success, which is inherently messy, non-linear in its unfolding, and wildly unpredictable. Success has never fallen in my lap. It’s taken many wrong turns, stubborn willfulness, a hellavalotta tears and reaching into depths I never knew I had to find what I needed to get there. Taking small steps is easy because there’s not far to fall. Aiming beyond the stars into the unknown requires the deepest faith in your worth as well as making friends with failure. Failure is always there when creativity is at work, it’s a part of the journey to success. Don’t take it personally. I try not to take any of it personally. The failure is learned from and quickly brushed aside to make room for more creativity, while the success goes past my ego (once I’ve given myself a round of raucous applause!) and straight to my Soul, to Spirit, to the Cosmic Creatrix who gave me the gifts and set the whole thing up Herself in the first place. So please, be confused, be lost, be uncertain, because this is where you really get creative, this is how you evolve and redefine success. Aim for messy, wholehearted dance steps along your journey, never mapped-out perfection, and success is yours every day ♥️

  • It’s never a straight line from where we are to where we’re trying to get to! But that’s a good thing, if it were easy what would we learn about ourselves & how would we grow? It’s the messiness of life & living that gives us the greatest opportunities to discover our true identities!

  • When things fall apart they gotta fall somewhere, that’s just how the world and gravity works. Trusting fully in the universe creates a belief that they land exactly where they are meant to. Reflect on your past and try to realize all that you worried about that brought you to this moment in time. Slowly you realize how many times things had to fall apart to build something even better. It’s all about perspective and realizing even disasters can be blessings. This excludes certain traumas that occur but for most of life situations this perspective shift applies. Im thankful for the many times I have fallen apart. This is my opportunity to grow and change. We aren’t broken when the pieces fall all over the floor. With those pieces we become beautiful stain glass windows reflecting light, color, and beauty. The journey of growth is an endlessly beautiful one❤️

  • While I can appreciate and admire the simplicity of a minimalist lifestyle, I definitely can not abide in a clean, clear environment. Somehow clutter and clusters are more comforting to me. So, I look fondly at a cluster of pictures on the wall or a group of jars full of markers as beautiful and inspiring. I am energized by lots of color and lots of stuff around me. .
.
Still, with the four of us all home for the summer, a new dog, a guinea pig, and hedgehog, the stuff can become too much. I will look around and see soccer cleats next to a dog leash feet away from supplies for an upcoming workshop, which sits below finished quilts and neck pouches that hang cheerfully from a shelf. .
.
It’s a busy household with a lot of creative activity, and I will catch myself tisk-tisking the mess, but this reprimand is usually followed by this thought – “What a beautiful mess!” “Would I want it any other way?” “This is life! This is living!”
We are here in this place together doing the things we love, and it isn’t beautiful! Aren’t we so fortunate to live in this mess – this collage of personalities, art, and dreams. .
.
Then I will remember when the house was carpeted in legos or spotted in baby puke? This beautiful mess will shift and change. So, I try to hold on to today’s mess. I will appreciate it. I will joyfully straighten the hallway rug because there will be a day when I won’t have to anymore. There will be a day when the hallway will be devoid of soccer cleats, violins, and drying paintings. .
.
Living creatively is messy, and that mess is beautiful. It’s a creation unto itself! .
.
What about you? Do you live in a beautiful mess? Does messiness make you uneasy?

  • Ahhhhhhhh, we are at home getting all the last bits ready to put in a van (I say last bits, look at my highlights or video 😭)

My anxiety and stress levels are through the roof! The thought of multiple people being here to help encourages me but also stresses me out as no one has the same ideas on how to do things.

  • Beauty.
You are not perfect.
You aren't ever going to be perfect.
I am not perfect either.

And do you know what?
Thank goodness!
Because, how unrealistic... and BORING.

I don't know about you, but the best bits of life are the messy bits.
The day-to-day living that isn't polished.
The parts that aren't edited with a filter.

Welcome to the club of vibrant living where everyone steps into their messy awesomeness.
Where real living happens.
Where we slip and fall down, but also get back up.
Where we cry because we are frustrated and laugh because we are scared.
Where we love and let love happen.

Where we FEEL!
And eat. And play. And fight. And work.

Today (and let's be real EVERY DAY) I am living my best messy life. Messy bun and all.

How are you living your best messy life?

  • Chewy being a goof ball🤪🤩
If you didn’t see my last post you should go check that out but if you did you would probably know I’m switching barns! I’m supper excited but also it’s hard leaving such good friends behind as this was the first riding center I went to. I’m really happy with my decision because this place was becoming super toxic and creating lots of stress So I’d thought I’d just let you know for when you see a different place and bunch of horses♥️ hopefully I’ll finally get some vids of me riding😭

  • 🎶 Released from my chains, I’m a prisoner no more. 🎶My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore. He canceled my debt and called me His friend, when death was arrested and my life began. 🎶 .
.
Shame is not for me anymore. He paid my debts and calls me friend.
.
So many days go by where I don’t feel like a deserving friend or worthy of anything good. But then God smiles at me and says “I did it all for you, and I would do it all over again.”
.
It’s in these views where my heart swells with praise or in the little things that make me smile when I’m frustrated. It’s in the messy, mundane living. It’s in the hustle and bustle, and also in the stillness.
.
If you’re not feeling worthy of being His friend- I assure you He doesn’t feel that way. He paid a price for your heart to spend eternity with Him. Look around and He will show you just how good He is.

  • EASTER SUNDAY- When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they could go and anoint Jesus’ dead body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they came to the tomb. They were saying to each other, “Who’s going to roll the stone away from the entrance for us?” When they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away. (And it was a very large stone!) Going into the tomb, they saw a young man in a white robe seated on the right side; and they were startled. But he said to them, “Don’t be alarmed! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised. He isn’t here. Look, here’s the place where they laid him. Go, tell his disciples, especially Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you.” Overcome with terror and dread, they fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. - Mark 16:1-8

  • GOOD FRIDAY- “Jesus’ mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near the cross. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
After this, knowing that everything was already completed, in order to fulfill the scripture, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar full of sour wine was nearby, so the soldiers soaked a sponge in it, placed it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed.” Bowing his head, he gave up his life.” - John 19:25-30

  • MAUNDY THURSDAY- While they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take and eat. This is my body.” He took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many so that their sins may be forgiven. I tell you, I won’t drink wine again until that day when I drink it in a new way with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Then, after singing songs of praise, they went to the Mount of Olives.

  • #morningtradition 🤣 pretty dress + dog food chore which really turns into a dog food mess all over the floor ... so then we get vacuum practice. I'm pretty sure her goal is really to get the vacuum which makes me proud nonetheless 🤷🏼‍♀️🖤

  • Holy Week is HERE!!!

.
. PALM SUNDAY: “As Jesus approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole throng of his disciples began rejoicing. They praised God with a loud voice because of all the mighty things they had seen. They said, “Blessings on the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heavens.”

  • ✏Day 7: Less Glam Side
What's less glam for a crocheter than their messy work space, tangled yarn, photography, uncooperative designs, the occasional achy joints, just all the STUFF involved in running things and let's not forget weaving in ends! Those pesky pesky ends!
📝
🙋🏿‍♀️What are ends?👇🏿
📝
Whenever I make an item that has colour changes like the picture above [Pattern:@morines_shop (link in bio)😘], I'll need to stop the colour I'm done with and then add a new one on. This produces dangling strings/pieces of yarn that are called 'ends'.
📝
Ends are always there though, even when you don't change colours. The beginning and end of you work will have ends and if you're working in big projects, you'll have to work with multiple balls of yarn and that will also produce ends where you joined the yarn together.
📝
Of course you can't just leave the dangling bothers there, so you have to weave them into your work and that's such a hustle😥
📝
You have to weave them in, and weave them in well and that requires a lot of attention and maneuvering because you want the best and neatest looking work.
📝
Most people never think about this and they shouldn't have to if you do a good job.
📝
What isn't glam in your craft?

  • This frame hangs by my desk in my home office. It’s a constant reminder to me that life is about choices. I’m a work from home, homeschooling, blogging wife and mami. My desk at times is the messiest place in our home. I have piles of opened and unopened home and office mail, piles of paper to shred, kid’s drawings, school work, medical requisitions, tax paperwork and the endless pile of what I call the s$&t work. It’s all the stuff that my MD husband hates, avoids and quiet honestly sucks at. It’s the pile of stuff that I honestly put off until the last minute and don’t enjoy doing. I use that stuff to teach our kids lessons about hard work, dedication and the fact that life is full of having to do stuff that sucks, but imperative. Social media and in particular Instagram is full of overly edited and staged snap shots of life. Folks can create a false image of life and portray here with no hesitation. I intentionally try to not only post the good and insta worthy moments. My life is messy, though messes cause me angst and I am a list making, over planning person at times. My desk is a hot mess, especially pre or post a trip or in my most recent case two back to back trips. As I stare at my desk this morning and sigh because I know that I could tackle this if I had a few interrupted hours, I know that it will probably take me weeks to do it, Bc I’d rather take a break to snuggle on the couch with my 6 year old and get through his school work with him. I’d rather help my 7 year old with her reading and writing and supervise my 10 year old’s work. While I agree with T. Roosevelt that “comparison is the thief of joy” I also think that comparing ourselves to others can help keep us focused on choosing to see the good in our circumstances. I’m working on a workshop for a homeschool conference titled “no, I’m not more patient than you!” Just because I don’t share all of my struggles online, doesn’t mean that life is perfect. I’ve made a commitment to choose joy daily. That’s the bottom line. #bloggervibes #teachingkids #parenting #familylife #messyliving #choosingjoy #homeschool #workfromhomemom

  • Joy is...messiness - and a bit of dirt.. "Water which is too pure has no fish" says an old Afghan proverb. When we look into a pond, we see that underneath the serene surface there is a gloriously messy and muddy world. Tangles of waterlilly stems, sedges and waterweeds grow in a soupy mix of mud and silt, leaves and rotting plant life. And it's this murky mess that supports so much life - insects, frogs, turtles, eels, fish and birds. Creation, renewal - life - flourish in the murkiness. No wonder our unconcious minds resonate so well with ponds! And when our own lives seem messy, unclear and full of swirling eddies of too many things, perhaps that's the very time to go with the flow and celebrate life... Happy weekend!

  • F I R S T S// First day of a new year. First ornaments to come down off the tree as we pack it away for next Christmas. Reminiscing all the firsts before this one. My first Christmas ornaments that my mom carefully stored and packed away until I had a home of my own. Each of my littles’ first ornaments that I hold a little more carefully each year, imagining their first homes and first trees and their little box of firsts they’ll get from us. I’ll never have a “perfectly” decorated tree and that’s exactly how I always want it to be. Our tree is full of memories. Special moments, adventures, and passions of our littles. Like paper sheep ornament for the year that our oldest was obsessed with Shaun the Sheep. I don’t consider myself very nostalgic...but clearly there is a strong thread of it that runs thru me when it comes to all the crazy things we hang on the tree. .
.
What are your favorites from this season? Are you a take it all down the day after Christmas or a “let it linger” a little longer?

How do you connect with other people?

Loneliness, isolation, lack of social interactions - all of these are slowly making us feel less and less together. Here at Singing Mamas, we welcome ALL women to join us and become a part of a singing community! Even if you have never sung a note before or the thought of holding a harmony-part terrifies you, there is no need to worry! We are all levels of ability and no one is ever put on the spot! After we have sung there is time for some socialising over tea and cake, what's not to like about a singing mamas morning?
