  • Little big goals.
Little big goals.

  • Runs on liquor stores, a surge in alcohol deliveries and a spike in alcohol sales demonstrates that many are turning to alcohol amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Not to mention most of social media seems like one big virtual happy hour right now.⁣
⁣
Studies show that catastrophic events can trigger increased substance abuse. As feelings of anxiety, depression, or sheer boredom mount due to the growing pandemic of COVID-19. The desire to turn to drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism could become more problematic. The main reason: access. It goes under the radar as something which isn’t seen really as a substance because our society normalizes it. ⁣
⁣
Self medication and substance use can already be problematic for many people in everyday life. They typically appear as quick-fix solutions that may help with anxiety or depression in the short term, but ultimately lead to further issues and instability. Bars are shut down and people may begin to realize they are actually addicted to the substance and not so much the social environment. ⁣
⁣
Too much alcohol can lead to feelings of depression, anger, hopelessness and powerlessness — and domestic violence, which is a real concern at a time when many families are cooped up together under stressful circumstances. ⁣
⁣
Alcohol is used as a coping mechanism which the temporary benefits are often outweighed by the long-term negative effects on health and relationships, poor decision-making under the influence, as well as increased dependency. ⁣
⁣
If a person is constantly using alcohol to, for example, avoid feelings of sadness and loneliness, they may fail to develop healthy ways of managing this distress, such as developing close relationships, practicing mindfulness, or seeking help from a mental health professional. ⁣
⁣
If you’re seeking help there are phone and online meetings held over Skype and Zoom. You can seek out digital communities that share your values. Mute/unfollow any social media that may trigger or make you uncomfortable. ⁣
⁣
In general, either pursuing sobriety or limiting your drinking is a smart decision right now. We need to be thoughtful of our mind, mood and health.

  • Confession—⁣
Sitting across from @nileseggleston on our 2nd “Moose Lodge” date I felt embarrassed to admit that I’m finding a lot of pleasure in this quarantine. The kids named their imaginary restaurant on our back deck & have acted as a waitstaff. The oldest lights the candles, the youngest uses a British accent & the middle child wears a hooded moose antler robe.⁣
⁣
Indulging in delight while there’s so much suffering? I have my time in mourning and sadness, no doubt. Still, twinges of guilt rise up from time to time when i revel in all the special moments our family is creating & the rest *my* body is allowed while others are working themselves to the bone on our behalf or worse. But I’ve had to remind myself of something that I’ve learned—I can’t suffer FOR anyone. SomeOne already did that.⁣
⁣
In fact, this lesson has been a challenging one for me. It was a relief when I realized that my “bleeding heart” or sensitive soul wasn’t a character flaw but by design. Connecting with other empaths—as some may define us—comforted me & gave me permission to stop trying to change this deeply feeling way about myself. I’ve even started to appreciate & celebrate it’s intensity...specifically when it moves me acts of love. Compassion is empathy in action (which is a given and a non-negotiable as far as I’m concerned).⁣
⁣
If you feel similar feelings of defiant joy, I hope you welcome them. Health professionals are actually strongly suggesting that we reduce our stress levels to protect our mental health and immune systems. ⁣
⁣
“Joy is meant to be ours, a joy that is defiant in the face of this broken world. This joy is not simply happiness on steroids; it’s the unyielding belief that sorrow and loss do not have the final say. It’s the stubborn determination to be present to whatever may come and to interpret both goodness and grief by the light of heaven.” ~Stasi Eldredge ⁣
⁣
Finding joy & delight now isn’t indulgent. It doesn’t have to be denial. It’s soul care.💜⁣

  • ‘Growth is the only evidence of life’
Personal growth is the forever going process of understanding and developing yourself in order to achieve your fullest potential.
Personal growth has a profound effect on every single aspect of our life.

How do life coaches support personal development?
A life coach will:
-Encourage deep thoughts about your life currently and the changes you want to make. -Encourage you to challenge your thoughts by identifying inconsistencies. -Support you through difficult decisions. -Assist you with creating and following your personalised plan.

  • Don't underestimate the outdoors💭
.
OK as I've said before I used to compete in athletics & this place is where I did a lot of my training. Since this whole quarantine thing started like many of us I've got into running again (I am so unfit 😂) & I cannot tell you how good it feels to exercise outdoors in the fresh air. Now after that sweaty knackering run I am chilling watching Twilight, don't judge me
.
Please stick to the rules set out by government because I know so many will find it difficult without the option to exercise outside ❤️ I''m still in work everyday & trying my hardest to keep the positivity going for the families I work with, don't make a mockery of key workers by flouting rules, it's important we stick together 💕 stay safe

Sorry if this came across preachy

  • MENTAL HEALTH & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY 🧠
⠀⠀
.
⠀⠀
Basically, physical activity (PA) means any movement of your body that uses your muscles and expends energy. ⠀⠀
Having a healthy heart, improved joints and bones are some of the reasons why PA is good for you. But❗️ did you know that PA is advantageous for your wellbeing and mental health⁉️
⠀⠀
MENTAL WELLBEING CAN BE:
⠀⠀
1️⃣The sense about feeling good about ourselves.
2️⃣Feeling valued and having sense of purpose.
3️⃣The ability to deal with ups & downs of life.
4️⃣Having freedom and control over our lives.
HOW CAN PA BENEFIT OUR WELLBEING❓ ⠀⠀
👉PA has a positive impact on our mood, it can increase our SELF-ESTEEM, reduce STRESS and ANXIETY. It can prevent the development of mental health problems and improve the quality of life of people experiencing mental health problems. ⠀⠀
.
⠀⠀
Studies suggest that 30 minutes of exercise of moderate intensity such as brisk walking for 3 days a week, is sufficient for these health benefits. Moreover, three 10-minute walks are believed to be equally useful as one 30 minute walk.
⠀⠀
.
⠀⠀
➡️Being active does not mean doing sport or going to the gym! There are other ways to be active. You just have to find one that works for YOU❗️
.
⠀⠀
Have a lovely Sunday❤️

  • It is more than just cooking.

Feeding our families right now feels like a whole different world than before.

On top of all of the added food-related work that goes along with having kids home all day, there is invisible strain when food becomes scary.

Food for many of us, food provides comfort and security. With all of the media coverage about food safety precautions to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 through food, parents are looking at food in fear.

As a food allergy parent that has had to continue to feed her kid even though food could harm her, I can say that knowledge and time has helped me cope. If you are looking to find out the latest food safety recommendations from credible sources, see my latest blog post. https://www.suzannestable.ca/post/you-do-not-need-to-fear-food

This post is dedicated to all the parents that are grinding it out every day. I see you. .

  • It’s Self-Care Sunday
Hi Everyone. I took a much needed break. About 10 days ago, I woke up feeling sick and my PCP had me tested for coronavirus. Thankfully I was negative.
I continued to feel short of breath though and what this eventually turned out to be was a particularly severe and extended asthma flare.
We never figured out what triggered it I was on a high dose of oral steroids for the first 9 days, then started tapering down. 11 days in total which is enough to make anyone a little nuts - on top of what is already happening in our neighborhoods, our country and in the world.
I speak with my clients at work and one of the most anxiety-provoking issues that everyone is dealing with is that no one knows when the pandemic will end.
Add to that the Grimm daily counts of newly confirmed cases and tragically, the people who have passed away.
It’s a personal miracle that each person has found a way to cope, mentally. physically and spiritually.
I was walking my rescue dog Shelby the other night (thankful she has been my companion) and people on my block started clapping and banging pots and pans together. I got goose bumps standing there listening to the cacophony.
The healthcare workers on the front lines are truly the heroes. Thank you for everything you do.

  • Today’s happy place was a walk in the Sun with my one year old. I planned a little route, he walked all the way there and I got cuddles all the way back 😍

  • And be patient over what befalls you
Quran 31:17
.
So I had a little draw last night just to distract myself off what's happening around me..
I really hope it brings some comfort to you as much as it did to me inshallah🌸😌

  • What another person does is never really about you, it’s always about themselves. .

When you truly realize that you will stop allowing things that someone else does effect the way you feel about you. .

That can be hard especially if you constantly blame yourself for how another person treats you. .

Do you need support on your healing journey? .

If so dm me “lets work” to schedule a 1:1 healing session. .

  • Everyone will experience trauma at some point in their lives, and as a result, some will experience debilitating symptoms that interfere with daily life.⁣
⁣
Untreated trauma is unlikely to disappear and can contribute to chronic pain, depression, drug and alcohol abuse and sleep problems that impede a person's ability to work and interact with others.⁣
⁣
Many of these behaviors are ways to cope or manage the overwhelming feelings. Everything we do makes sense when you see it as an adaptation. ⁣
⁣
Studies have shown that simply watching traumatic events on TV can be traumatic to some, especially those individuals who had pre-existing mental or physical health difficulties. ⁣
⁣
At this very moment we are being bombarded with news about what is going on, but watching the news all day is not good for your mental and physical health. Limit how much information you are taking in so that you have time to digest it and integrate it. ⁣
⁣
There are several definitions for trauma. One simple one is when our system gets overwhelmed due to an event. Something happens that overcomes us – it is too much, too fast, too soon - and there is not enough time to integrate the experience.⁣
⁣
Take care of yourself ❤️ ⁣
