  • Reset🌿
“I’ve found that one of the best resets is spending a day (or more) in nature without any devices and with no plans to share your experience publicly upon your return. It’s also helpful to set aside regular blocks of time to do the work you love without distraction. At first this might be really hard, especially if you’re in the habit of constantly looking outward for little pulses of feel-good validation. You may even feel some anxiety. Just keep at it. Eventually you’ll realize that deep work is the conduit to flow and the lasting satisfaction and fulfillment it brings.”

  • This picture is old but relevant .. My snapchat memories reminded me that today makes 1 year since I left Memphis and came back to NC .. I literally told no one I was coming back .. I was ashamed, felt like a failure and wasn’t ready for the famous “what happened” question .. This picture was taken in Memphis not long before I was set to depart .. I was feeling myself on the outside but internally I was at war with myself .. I was hurting, grieving, angry and unsure of what lay ahead .. Here I am a year later and I still don’t have it all together .. I’m an advocate for mental health because I know the struggle first hand .. This month I finally took the plunge to face my fears, my grief and everything else I’d buried for so long .. At times the tears come or anxiety creeps up but I know all of it’s necessary for my healing #OneYearLater #MemphisBackToNC #DontRegretAnyOfIt #TransparencyPost #MentalHealthAwareness

  • Well, sometimes things are almost where they’re supposed to be, but just a little off. A wise man had made a decision that influenced my own this morning. I suppose we’ve got all the right letters, they just aren’t in the right spots. And that’s okay. Sometimes life will give you what you need, and it’s up to you to put it in the right order. I don’t believe in “bad timing” when it comes to life because fate put that in your hands and if you want it, you’ll work for it. You’ll make it fit where it’s supposed to fit.
As we come to a close on mental health awareness month I realize I haven’t made a post yet. I haven’t taken the time to go through because I’ve been happy most days. I like to think of what I’ve been handed not as a test to prove myself. This isn’t a pass or fail situation. My mental illness will not define me. I will be better not for my loved ones but for myself. If I’m going to continue on this career path, I need to wipe the tears off my cheeks, be thankful for what I have, and march on.
It’s going to be a hard adjustment. There’s going to be long periods of time where I’m not okay, but the sun always rises, and so will I. •

  • Guys.
-
It’s ok to feel angry.
It’s ok to feel depressed.
It’s ok not to be happy all the time.
It’s ok to be overwhelmed.
It’s ok to feel vulnerable.
It’s ok to ask for help.
It’s ok to take a break.
It’s ok to talk to someone.
-
It can’t rain all the time.
-
P.s. part quote from the film The Crow .. excellent film, worth a watch!

i was beaten absolutely senseless as a child. i have memories of being held by my hair and repeatedly having my head smashed into concerete. i was tied up, often drugged with lorazepam, punched, kicked, had my ponytail hacked off in one of my mother’s fits of rage. one of my earliest memories is being about 5 years old and her backhanding me and her watch hit my forehead and left a huge bruise and lump. she dragged me into the bathroom and cut a fringe; this was the most devastating part as i had been painstakingly growing it out. but she told me i had a big head and was too ugly not to have one anyway. i was medicated for mental health conditions i didn’t have because she lied to cover her tracks (and now i am actually mentally ill life is full of irony isn’t it?). i was repeatedly told i was unloveable, that i turned people bad because of who i was, and that my opinions and thoughts were stupid. it’s led to a lifetime of self doubt, self hatred, and patterns of abusive relationships because that’s what i thought love looked like. and guess what? i still don’t fucking respect people just because they’re older than me, or in a position of power, or any of that shit. i respect people who are decent and respectable. it’s not taught me anything, it’s just left me with complex ptsd and a sense of existential dread, trauma induced psychotic episodes, and a whole heap of other shit.

most of u lot would be horrified if u saw someone hit their dog, their lover, or their friend. how is hitting a defenceless child justifiable? it just fucking isn’t. abused kids grow up to be traumatised adults and for a lot of us we don’t learn the coping mechanisms we need, we don’t learn how to have healthy relationships with ourselves or others, and we certainly don’t learn how to love ourselves. the damage can not be reversed. i’ll never be a whole person after what i’ve experienced. i’ll always see the world through fear. if one person reads this and decides not to hit their kid, every bit of my suffering will be worth it.

  • ✖️I think there is something that needs to be addressed.. in light of all the DRAMA happening of late on multiple social media platforms, I want to speak up. Yes celebrities, influencers and anyone with a social media account put themselves out there publicity..
.
But it’s never ok to bully, harass, hate on and abuse someone. If they are celebrities, influencers or someone you go to school with. ITS NOT OK! Getting involved in others drama is such a negative and unnecessary action..
.
Honestly why? For what purpose, does it make you feel better? Does it give you some sort of weird power trip? Honestly the hate needs to stop! There have been too many instances where people have taken their OWN DAMN LIVES because of the bullying and abuse on social media!.
.
Instead how about we spread LOVE and POSITIVITY and actually leave others better than when we found them! Anyone with a social following has the responsibility to themselves and their followers to be authentic and real but as a follower you have the same responsibility. If you don’t like what someone stands for UNFOLLOW THEM, if they do something publicly that disappoints you UNFOLLOW THEM! Sending hateful tweets, msgs and death threats is not ok!.
.
Don’t be a keyboard warrior and say nasty shit because you can! How about we be the change we want to see in the world! Let’s support one another, be kind, and use our social reach for good!
.
You never know what is going on in someone else’s life and some nice words may just be what helps get them through the darkest time in their lives. It costs nothing to be a kind human!.
.
Positivity and light sis! Be done with the TEA the DRAMA and the negativity on the Internet!.
.
Tag a friend if you support this! ❤️✖️

  • After yesterday’s post and a few DM conversations I’ve been having I wanted to tackle this head on. There’s a lot to say here, so I’m going to try condense it down best I can. I’m trying to keep this to 10 points so if there are any resources you know to be helpful please shout on the comments. And before we start, this is all about accessing talking therapy in the UK so if running/knitting/craftbeer/pole-dancing is your therapy, honestly that is really amazing and I do want to hear all about it (but another day on another post). Oh and pls remember I’m not an expert, this is just what I’ve picked up on my MH journey. So how to access therapy when you are broke AF:

1.) NHS (speak to your GP, or you can self refer in some areas or look up your local IAPT team). 2.) Charities (some offer free counselling and/or telephone listening services). Go have a google!

3.) If you are student most universities and colleges have free counselling services.

4.) Through medical insurance (your own or sometimes you can also access therapy through your partners depending on the policy)

5.) Through a workplace Employee Assistance Programme. Often you won’t even need to say a word to your manager/HR

6.) Online services/apps (please ensure the therapists are registered with a professional body)

7.) Ask if a private therapist offers a sliding fee scale or takes on any probono cases.
8.) Try group therapy as this is often at a lower cost.

9.) Space out your private sessions to give yourself time save up, or consider batching in 6 week chunks if you prefer the weekly check-in.

10.) Or do as I do and sell old clobber on eBay and budget like a mofo! .
(And of course if you need to speak to someone urgently f you’re worried about your own life, please look at the crisis services currently in my stories, or in my story highlights) .

  • We often get asked for ideas about how to #choosekindness at work. Through our research, we've found that even small acts like saying good morning, sharing a snack, or leaving a kind note on someone's desk, make a big impact.
We'd love to hear from you! What acts of kindness do you want to see more of at your workplace?

Thank you @amiluu_scribble for helping us show one of many ways we can make workplaces kinder. .

  • Mental illnesses are not a choice.
Mental illnesses are not all in your head.
Mental illnesses cannot be cured by a change in diet, lifestyle, or thinking.

Mental illness is not synonymous with a bad attitude about life. Instead of making people with mental illness feel horrible about themselves, spread empathy and listen to what they have to say.

Yes, changing your diet, lifestyle, or thinking can alleviate the symptoms of your mental illness, but it can’t cure it. Most people who say “change your thoughts” do not mean in it a way where it means “go to therapy and do cognitive behavioral therapy (or another type of therapy).” They usually mean “stop thinking negatively” or something that minimizes the severity and complexity of mental illness. A lot of these comments come from a place of ignorance, which is why it is important that we educate people so they understand that mental illness is complex and not a decision.
