  • LETS TALK HEALTHCARE 🩺
This post may not suite everyone but I feel it’s an important conversation to start.
I’ve been getting a glimpse into how messed up our healthcare system is for a while. You don’t really know how much each system works against each other until you depend on the system as a whole.

The healthcare system has failed me miserably multiple times and at times the only way I’ve been taken seriously as a patient is when I have a parent with me. According to the law, I’m 26 and now should be able to provide myself with all of my healthcare needs, the funny part is most of the time, I try and try and the only way anything gets done is when my mom steps in. So how is that okay that at 26, I am now an adult and independent, yet my conditions and needs are not met because I am not taken seriously.
I cannot tell you how much prejudice I have received from “looking healthy.” I have been harassed by pharmacists, I have been pushed aside by doctors and I have found that the only way to get anywhere when you are in need of healthcare is to be your own advocate but how can I be my own advocate if I’m only taken seriously when my mom or dad either stand next to me or speak up on my behalf.

It’s time to recognize that yes, a 26 year old who looks “fine” can be incredibly ill and dependent upon doctors, insurance, pharmacists and medications. They are all incredibly entangled with each other but truly they all love to work against each other and the patient in need
So my question is, what ways have you found effective for getting your healthcare need across to the various people in “control” of your health?

  • Scars. Lately, I have been asked about my right arm more than usual. Perhaps the universe is sending reminders of pre-Ashtanga days and how far I’ve come.
Scars are beautiful. I’ve never thought mine was ugly or felt embarrassed... Sometimes scars inevitably make you stronger and lead the way to better ways to be. Am I right @dutchflowyoga ? 💪

  • Jumping on the band wagon. Definitely a ‘glow up’. Within the past decade I worked my ass off to loose the weight of an adult woman (155 lbs), Had three back surgeries, (on top of the one I had in 2008) earned a double masters, fell in love just to be beaten out of it, moved all around the city just to move out of it, and so many more obstacles that I over came. #2020comeatme #bringit #2010vs2019 #thepastdecade #glowupchallenge #glowups #madeofmetal
