  • Ever since I saw @kimchikoreahouse ‘s ab fab insta tutorial on how to make kimchi I’ve had a mad craving for it! Today I pulled together a Korean feast using @maangchi ‘s recipes for Spicy Stir-Fried Squid (I added a few scallops), Hot and Spicy Rice Cake with Hot Dogs (Tteokbokki), KFC and Spicy Stuffed Cucumber Kimchi... which btw, is to die for! Thank you for the inspo @kimchikoreahouse and the awesome content you are putting out, it’s super appreciated! If you live near Dundas West definitely support by getting takeout or delivery and if you don’t... @maangchi has you covered!

  • KKWABAEGI! Twisted Donut. My family loves freshly fried donut. I enjoy making it for them. The donut is good on its own but I made simple chocolate dipping sauce to go with it. It turns out to be soft and fluffy. I used the tangzhong method to see if it will make a difference and it did. It's a roux that you make and add to your bread recipe. It gives a lighter texture to the bread. Here's the ratio:

Flour
Amount of flour from the recipe x 10% = flour for roux

Water/Milk (or any liquid from the recipe)
Flour for roux x 5 = liquid for roux

You mix everything until it turns thick like a mashed potato. You need to let it cool before you use it. You wrap it with a cling wrap and make sure it touches the roux so it won't form any skin. Also, it will be more accurate if you weigh your flour and liquid (grams or oz). You can use this in any bread recipe.

  • Yakiniku/Kbbq for lunch!

Ps chill first and use a sharp knife for thin cuts

I've used a high carbon steel gyuoto knife from @jikkocutlery_sakai which I bought in Osaka last time I visited. It holds a seriously sharp edge because the metal is harder due to the higher content of carbon (conversely, it's also more brittle). You've also got to oil it to stop it from rusting.

This is oyster blade 9+ wagyu from  @fearofwayne. Hit me up if you're after quality Australian wagyu at decent prices and I'll connect you.

  • Vegan for Lent day 37: today we made one of my favorite Korean-style Chinese foods, 짜장면. It turned out super well. We only missed the 단무지, but it wasn’t worth a trip to the store. Tasty food is good. But I miss being able to share our cooking triumphs with others and the Blob was satisfied with a smoothie of carrot, cabbage, butternut squash, prunes, and lentils, so we can’t trust her opinion. #veganfood #짜장면 #망치 #maangchi #veganforlent #foodstagram

A North Korean family apparently was fleeing the country and got caught by the Chinese police. They were given two options: either the entire family was sent back to North Korea or only the daughter returned and the rest of the family could stay. The family tearfully sent their daughter back, promising they would come back for her. And then they never saw her again. Apparently the family now lives near the DMZ and has been looking for her ever since. The mother said this dish was her daughter’s favorite.

  • How’s everyone’s Social Distancing going? Hope you all are doing well and staying safe! This isn’t a dessert but hey! Why not post it! .... I can’t go out to eat Korean food, so why not make it?? I’ve been making my own Korean food for a long time. It’s hard since I am allergic to soy, so I have to substitute the tofu and soy sauce, but it works just as good! 
All of my recipes are from @maangchi because she takes home style Korean food and makes recipes. They have always turned out soooo well! 
I made one of my favorite soups ~ Kimchi Sujebi (#김치수제비) which is hand torn noodles. 
For the side dishes, I made braised potatoes (#감자조림), Spicy Cucumber (#오이무침), Bean Sprouts (#콩나물무침) and Dried Squid (#오징어채무침) 
Did it take a long time? Yes! But was it worth it? Yes! 
I ran out of Gochujang paste, so shout out to my friend for giving me a recipe to make it quickly! .

These side dishes are perfect for the lockdown since they can last a long time 🤤. I followed @maangchi 's recipes again and they turned out freaking delicious!! Can't wait to make different Korean recipes that will put to good use my freshly made kimchi 🤤💖!

  • OKAY relax. Don’t @ me for the music. This was the sickest track selection they had LMAO & I was so annoyed with the my mom’s documentary playing in the background. This is my take on the dish, aka I just grabbed whatever was in my fridge. I didn’t have soft tofu at the time but I would’ve definitely included it otherwise! If you’ve never had fermented soybean paste soup, I would describe it as a much earthier and hearty version of miso soup. Please check out @maangchi blog post for her recipe. She is my fallback every time for Korean food

  • On tonight's edition of #quarantinecooking : kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew)! I'd been craving a spicy stew and boy did this hit the spot 💥

Another bomb @maangchi recipe, albeit with my lazy broth shortcuts and a healthy portion of spam and leftover kielbasa lol. Lesson: extreme bias cut green onion makes anything look fancy 😉

My hair and clothes and skin now smell like jjigae but that's ok, good thing I'm not going anywhere amirite 😅😅 #stayhome

This is my first time making this specific kind and I’m excited to try it fresh and then ferment the rest for a day or two.   • I made a huge batch of these king size kimchi mandu (김치왕만두 ) last week with the intention of freezing them. I ate quite a few of them before they made it to the freezer, then my Mum turned up who polished off a few more. Unsurprisingly, not many made it to my freezer stash- I guess I’ll just have to make another batch 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thank you to my fave Korean guru @maangchi for the recipe! #pippyeats #maangchi #mandu #kimchi

  • Hotteok - Korean sweet pancakes with a sugar cinnamon walnut filling! One of my favorite treats growing up: we would always get a box mix of these from a Korean market. 
These are actually quite simple to make from scratch- and best eaten right after they are made! I loveee the touch of cinnamon - makes all the difference!

  • It’s been over a week since I made my kimchi following the easy video from @maangchi and it’s looking and smelling absolutely delicious!! If you watch my stories, you’d have seen that yesterday I used my kimchi to make cheesy kimchi fried rice and it was amazing 👌👌 I thoroughly recommend watching Maangchi’s videos, authentic Korean recipes made simple and made easy! ✌️
