  •  Recipe for quick,easy and tasty pasta. 

Total protein: 2.7 grams approximately 
Ingredients:

Half a litre of water 
1 cup of low protein pasta
2 field mushrooms
Half a leek
Butter
Salt

Pasta:

Bring the water to the boil in a pot and add a pinch of salt.
Add the pasta and stir
Cook at a boil for 8minutes or however long it says on the packet. 
Drain away the water and mix a knob of butter and salt into the pasta.
Add the vegetables and serve

Vegetables:

Place a pan on the heat and add a knob of butter
Roughly chop the leek and mushroom and add them to the pan
Stir them and cook for 5 minutes or until the vegetables start browning.

Ingredients: FOR THE DOUGH: low protein flour,500GR; egg substitute, 2tsp, salt, 1tsp, butter,200gr; water,200cc; sugar,50gr; dehydrated yeast,10gr; optional: honey, 1 tbsp. FOR THE ALMIBAR: sugar,1/2 cup; water,1/4 cup
ΠTEP BY STEP: 1.Place the flour with the salt in a boul and mix. 2. Make a hole in the center and add the butter, the sugar, the yeast, the egg substitute, and part of the water. 3.mix the ingredients to form a dough, add water as needed 4. Knead well. 5. Let stand 40 to 50 minutes. 6. Knead the dough very well again until it is smooth and homogeneous. 7. Roll out the dough, and cut large rectangles, 1/2cm  thick. Form the croissants by rolling from the base to the tip. Give it a curved shape and place on the previously oiled roasting pan. 8.Leave for half an hour covered. 9.Paint them with butter and take to the oven at medium temperature for 20 minutes. 10. FOR THE ALMIBAR: place the sugar, the water in a saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat. 11.Allow the syrup to cool and brush the croissants.

INGREDIENTES: PARA LA MASA: harina baja proteina,500GR; sustituto de huevo, 2cucharaditas, sal,1 cdita, manteca,200gr; agua,200cc; azucar,50gr; levadura deshidratada,10gr; opcional: miel,1cda PARA EL ALMIBAR: azucar, 1/2taza; agua,1/4taza
ΝASO A PASO: 1.Colocar la harina con la sal en un boul y mezclar. 2.Hacer un hueco en el centro y agregar la manteca a punto pomada, el az繳car, la levadura, el sust de huevo, y parte del agua. 3.Unir los ingredinetes hasta formar una masa agregar agua a medida que se vaya necesitando 4.Amasar bien. 5.Dejar reposar 40 a 50 minutos. 6.Amasar nuevamnete muy bien la masa hasta que quede lisa y homogenea. 7.Estirar la masa, y cortar rect獺ngulos grandes, de 1/2 cent穩metro de espesor. Formar las medialunas enrollando desde la base hasta la punta.   • MEDIALUNAS  -
De la mam獺 de Angie.
.
INGREDIENTES:

PARA LA MASA:
- 500GR HARINA ZEROPRO. - 2 cucharaditas de sustituto de huevo. - 1 cdita sal.
- 200gr manteca. - 200cc de agua.
- 50gr az繳car. - 10gr levadura que levadura.
-1 cdita de miel (opcional).
(reservar un poquito de manteca y harina para enmantecar y enharinar el molde)

PARA EL ALMIBAR:
- Media taza de az繳car.
-Un cuarto de taza de agua.
- Un chorrito de esencia de vainilla opcional.

PASO A PASO:
Colocar la harina con la sal en un bowl y mezclar. 
Hacer un hueco en el centro y agregar la manteca a punto pomada, el az繳car, la levadura, el sust de huevo, y parte del agua.
Unir los ingredinetes hasta formar una masa agregar agua a medida que se vaya necesitando.
Amasar bien. 
Dejar reposar 40 a 50 minutos. 
Amasar nuevamnete muy bien la masa hasta que quede lisa y homogenea.
Estirar la masa, y cortar rect獺ngulos grandes, de 1/2 cent穩metro de espesor. Formar las medialunas enrollando desde la base hata la punta. Darle forma curva y colocar en la asadera previamnete aceitada. 
Dejar levar media hora tapados con u  repasador. 
Pintarlas con manteca y llevar a horno  a temperatura media por 20 minutos.

PARA EL ALMIBAR: colocar en una cacerola el az繳car, el aguay dejar hervir a fuego lento. 
Dejar enfriar el almibar  y pincelar las medialunas cuando est矇n fr穩as.

  •  POSTRECITO DE VAINILLA
INGREDIENTES:Agua 250cc, Az繳car30 gr, Almid籀n de ma穩z 30gr, Esencia de vainilla
Opcional: polvo de formula para 300cc (45gr)+diluido en 100cc de agua extra
PASO A PASO: (cada paso es una foto  mira a continuaci籀n)1.Mezclar en una ollita el agua, el az繳car y el almid籀n de ma穩z 2.Llevar a fuego lento y seguir revolviendo hasta que espese. 3.Retirar del fuego y dejar enfriar 4. En caso de utilizar la f籀rmula, diluir el polvo en 100cc de agua e incorporar batiendo a la preparaci籀n anterior 5. Dividir en compoteras y dejar reposar en heladera
*podes utilizar JUGO en lugar de agua para saborizantes x ejemplo de  *滕si le est獺 costando tomar bien la f籀rmula es una opci籀n para veh穩culizarla de otra manera!!!

兩蛆NGREDIENTS: Water250cc, Sugar30 gr, Corn starch30gr, Vanilla essence Optional: formula powder for 300cc (45gr) + diluted in 100cc of extra water
ΠTEP BY STEP: 1.Mix the water, sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan. 2.Take to low heat and continue stirring until thick. 3.Remove from the heat and let it to cool. 4. In case of using the formula, dilute the powder in 100cc of water and incorporate, whisking into the previous preparation.5.Divide into the different moulds and let them cool in the refrigerator

  • Week 1 of self isolation, making the very best use of our pantry and freezer supplies and using every bit of what we have. Carrot & Coriander soup with mini crackers
Veg finger sandwich, waffle, fine beans Pasta in a pepper and tomato sauce
Cheese on toast with alphabetti (not my idea 丐but my PKUers!) Flatbread with harrisa spiced mushrooms and red peppers
Tomato & chilli soup with herb crackers. We were able to get a fruit and veg box delivered, so snacks have been mainly fruits-apples, pears, bananas & grapes along with some chocolate and banana muffins made using Fate mix and a very ripe banana. Breakfast has been mainly cereal, oat milk followed by honey on toast. Lunches mainly crackers with either Philadelphia or violife slices, cucumber and tomatoes. 
This hasnt been easy and I cant see it getting easier. We are having to be careful with what we are using and when. We are in isolation for another week. There are no delivery slots available for the weeks ahead and thats scary for everyone let alone a family dealing with PKU. We are lucky that there should be low protein items waiting at the pharmacy, only I cannot get through on the phone to request a delivery and when a kind friend offered to help they found the pharmacy shut

  • Recipe below   Practicing social distancing today. I am super thankful for @ajinomoto_cambrooke for the food I get to eat while stuck at home. To say that this has been a crazy week would be a drastic understatement. My school has closed and it's looking like I'm going to be laid off from work for a while.  It's at a time like this that I am feeling extra grateful for this community.  The lasagna I made today is a recipe I've been eating as a comfort food since I was a kid.  This is made with Cambrooke fettuccine, Prego sauce, mixed in button mushrooms, Cambrooke cheddar shreds, and topped with more cheese and Daiya Mozzarella.  I boiled and drained the pasta, then mixed in the sauce, cheeze and mushrooms.  I baked it at 350簞F for 20 minutes.

  • Homemade low protein bread with butter The bread was baked this morning and I love how it tastes fresh out of the oven!  We freeze the rest of the bread and I defrost it in the microwave whenever I need to. Once Im out of bread we bake it again ( it usually lasts for a couple of weeks) The flour we use to bake the bread is Loprofin all purpose baking mix.   • Yesterday was my birthday.  It was an exciting day because it marked THREE official years of low levels and life on diet. 
Returning to my PKU diet after many years completely off was the best thing I've ever done for myself.  Taking care of my health has absolutely changed my life. 
Just over three years ago I was depressed, anxious and oftnen had panic attacks.  My thoughts were disorganized, I couldnt focus or retain information and I was becoming quite a pessimist.  It got so bad that my personal relationships were suffering greatly. I was afraid to take risks and had very low self esteem. 
Now I'm happy to say that I've learned to love myself through taking care of myself. I've improved my mental health substantially,  grown to love new food, and started taking risks.  I even started college this year- something I truly believed was IMPOSSIBLE for me before. 
Going back on diet was difficult at first, but with discipline it got so much easier, especially as I started to feel SO MUCH BETTER!

To those struggling to get back on track- I see you and I know your struggle.  I believe you can do it.  Your health is worth the effort. YOU are worth the effort.

颯颯 Hey, I'm Laura! When I was 5 days old, my parents got a phone call after the routine hospital newborn screening tests. They were told that they needed to bring me back to the hospital immediately. On that day, I was diagnosed with Phenylketonuria, or PKU. PKU is a metabolic genetic disorder that prevents my body from breaking down protein like other people. When I consume protein, it becomes toxic to my brain and body. I obviously don't remember the day I was diagnosed, but I do remember growing up eating food that was low in protein (& in taste), drinking formulas full of amino acids that werent any better, and leaving school early to make the long drive to the nearest specialist. When my "phe levels" are high, or there's too much protein in my bloodstream, anything the brain controls is affected...so, every part of my body. These high levels can lead to intense mood swings, memory loss, migraines, fatigue, muscle spasms, and more. But through a strict diet, a pill regimen of 134 capsules each day, and blood monitoring, I'm able to avoid some of these symptoms daily. Today, my health is good, but not perfect. I'm so thankful that God has given me my family, friends, doctors, and dietitians to help me along this journey. Ive learned that life isnt always going to be fair or easy and it's often out of our control, as PKU is for me. But it doesnt have to define our lives. While I have to battle with it every day, PKU is part of who I am but thats only scratching the surface.

  • My mom has been encouraging me about PKU & pregnancy since I can remember (I'm still not pregnant...promise). I literally remember being 12 driving with her to the doctor & her telling me not to be scared, I'll have kids one day, & when I do, she'll come over & make me stir-fry & help me with every step.  And here we are...today she went on a low-pro grocery trip for my pre-con diet. Tonight, she & my sister made me a special PKU lasagna after finding out how much more protein I had left for the day  So thankful. (And also, she lied...she said she'd make stir fry, but she actually made lasagna)  just kidding...she rocks.  Here's to incredible PKU parents!
