  • Sunrise on him looks good. I just love when he lets me snap a photo these days!

Also, is anyone else nearly as tired as I am this week?! I seriously can’t wake up!

  • Yup... I married into this craziness. 😬
But honestly it’s been such a blessing to have known them all these years. I met this family at only 6 years old. Our families quickly became friends so it was constant bbq’s and get togethers.
I pretty much grew up in the same house Nate did lol🤣 I’ve seen Maynerd(Nate’s dad) upgrade the kitchen like 12 times within all these years. Toni (Nate’s mom) drink about 2 billion cups of coffee in the back yard. I’ve seen his oldest sister Erika go out clubbing where me and Celest would judge her (inappropriate) outfit 😆. I’ve watch his oldest brother, MJ grow his family of 9!
Through all these years they’ve always made me feel like part of the family and well.....eventually when hormones kicked in and Nate transformed into this dreamy hunk... we got married and I officially joined this family. 😍

Our story is a little different than most. & I’m beyond blessed to say

  • This little nugget screams and yells every time I try to close this door. It’s usually only opened in the winter to compost and she’ll just go out there in the freezing cold and try to climb all the things 🤪. These kiddos sure give me a mental workout daily but my goodness are they cute!

Anyone else enjoy winter porch composting? As in, I just take less trips to the composter.

  • Kicking off the year with these two cuties and their amazing families. The energy was infectious despite the thick cloud of smoke, will be sharing a few more from this session. Four generations of love coming right up...

  • We’re back!! And welcomed the new year with a gorgeous day at Spooners Cove. We climbed jagged rocks, crawled through tiny caves, collected kelp, and discovered the tiniest most beautiful treasures gifted to us by the sea. A perfect nature day with our very missed crew.

  • Happy chappy...
But not today, not this morning.
How dare I use the pink spoon for the porridge and not the BLUE spoon...
How. Dare. I.
Meltdown ensued.
Happy Thursday! 💙

  • soaking up these last few weeks of my maternity leave + making my list of things I want to accomplish before I go back to work (one of which is to get more photos with my kids while they are still little...I’m never in the frame). But gosh looking back I was so lucky after Case was born to be a stay at home mama...those were some tough times but seriously #goals. I’d give anything to be able to do that again with Lincoln. #allthefeels #lincolnwilliam

  • The summer she became a reader. 🎉

It’s been three years since I read Dr. Raymond Moore’s Better Late than Early. I was scared and overwhelmed trying to teach my confused five-year-old to read (because they must learn to read in kindergarten right?) We scrapped it all and started over; completely ditching formal academics and focusing on home life, outdoor play, and reading aloud. (That was a scary, but freeing step!) Turns out Dr. Moore was right...eight was the magic age for us.

Though it was worrisome to watch my girl struggle with phonics as others (including her younger sister) sped ahead into early readers and chapter books, I had to trust! Myself, my daughter, natural learning. At times I wondered if I was doing the right thing. This summer it clicked and I got to see my daughter discover the joy of the written word in her own way. (When I saw her reading like this as she wiggled all over the chair, I felt like it was a perfect representation of her learning style!) Special credit to Calvin and Hobbs comic books, the Bernstein Bears, and Arnold Lobel early readers on audio!

Anyone else have any favorite resources on unschooling or delayed academics? Have you had success with audio books or out-of-the-box reading material for a reluctant reader? #moriahacademy #readaloudrevival

  • Cleaning the downstairs and thought I’d cull some books from this shelf...nope. They are all staying! Instead I made a pile to read to the girls this week! Miss Rumphius, Brambly Hedge, and Dr. Dolittle. 😂 #moriahacademy #smallbeginningsco

  • I just read Chapter 1 of The Brave Learner by Julie Bogart. Within an hour or so I moved all the art supplies back to the table, hung the paintings, and moved the watercolors within kid reach! (That really *is* brave for me, ha ha!) They have painted about five times this week and done a great job setting up and cleaning up on their own. (@juliebravewriter I put my Dottie glasses on, and now my “need” for a new dining room table somehow disappeared!) If you need a fresh wind in your home, add this book to the top of your stack. #moriahacademy #smallbeginningsco #thebravelearner #bravewriterlifestyle
