  • [PART 2/2] But if you say one negative word about this or any of the first four albums, the fanbase will MURDER you for it! That’s when the elitists and purists crawl from their sweaty, Uncleaned rooms to get behind a keyboard to prove you wrong! Opinions be damned!

This is when I began to feel a pull away from the fanbase.

Along came St. Anger.... Loud, bombastic, percussive, jarring, honest, brutal, emotional....metal!

It was life changing, it picked me up by my fucking hair and made me fight my way through the absolute darkest part of my life. In a way no album ever did. I have bonded with others over this album, I have lost friends who loved it, I have attached it to memories both good and bad, Hell, my band wouldn’t exist if not for this album. I know I’m not alone when I say that this album had a huge impact on me because I see it all over from members of the Metallica family.

But the “fanbase” has to get off somehow. Instant retorts slamming the album and belittling those who like it. Simply claiming “it’s shit” and moving on, expecting an applause. Same goes for old and reload, anything that isn’t the first four goddamn albums.
My point: The metallica fanbase has all but killed an individuals full ability to completely enjoy what they choose. It’s aggravating beyond belief. WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS!!! Play nice, and respect what others like. It’s all from the same band that we love and live for! Let’s act like it! ALL MetallicA is good MetallicA because everything they put out is a piece of them, let’s be thankful for that!
Cheers!

  • [PART 1/2] The Metallica fan base is one of the absolute worst in all of metal. It is brimming with nostalgia-glassed elitist and purists with upturned noses ready to scoff at the slightest contradiction to what they feel is “Metallica”. On another hand, it is quickly filling with newcomers. Those who are just hearing there first riffs and wahs and “yeahs” of the band we love so much. They’re filled with love for this band as are we. We were all newcomers at one point, all of us.
The one thing that EVERY newcomer is baptized into is the absolute religious dedication to “Master of puppets”. With every ‘tallica fan absolutely creaming themselves over the record left and right since time began seemingly. The next step to surviving in the Metallica fanbase is the robotic recital of the “fanboy code”. It goes something like this “First four albums only,
First four, good!
All else, shit!
Maybe black album....on a good day.” From their entrance into the world of Metallica, this seems to be what they are barraged with from their first step onward.
I too, was indoctrinated in this mantra, and as I proudly walked out of the store with ‘puppets in hand, I experienced a strange feeling on my first listen.
I loved it! 100% front to back (or is it back to front? Teehee). However, all the claims I encountered of it being “the #1 greatest metal album of all time” did not ring true in my head after listening. Not even close. ..Before you prepare a cross for my body.. I DO NOT HATE THIS ALBUM!!! Battery is one of my all time favorite metal anthems and the title track is one that I still love playing and listening to to this day. Orion is beautiful and the album as a whole has some of Cliff’s very best work.
But after listening and after being a Metallica fan for a long time now, I’ve come to my own conclusion....the Metallica fanbase has killed Master of puppets.
