  • Our homemade version of Jay Fai’s crab omelette using the crabmeat I ordered from @marvsboqueria.ph - I love the crunchy exterior of this omelette! Not bad for a first try... We’ll cook this again using fresh, bigger and lumpier crab meat! Goes very well with ketchup or sweet chili sauce!👌👌👌 #jayfai #thaiomelette #thaicooking #homecookedmeal

  • I’m not one to do the touristy thing and wait in line for hours without a reservation, but this was a special case. After my mom and I binge watched @streetfoodnetflix she wanted to eat at Jay Fai’s before she left for New York in 2 days. With the next reservation available in early June, we showed up extra early (11:30am) to put our name on a walk-in waitlist. We were number 7! When the restaurant opened at 2pm, there was a big crowd standing around waiting in the insane heat, taking pictures and videos like mad in what is normally a quiet neighborhood. It was like a zoo! You’d think people never saw anyone use a wok before! But of course Jay Fai had special wok super powers that people, including us, were in awe of. Waiting in the sweltering heat, I admired her resilience, her fight and her desire for perfection in every dish. I also admired how she was not compromising how food was served at her street food stall. It was just like any other place, well, except with the big crowd of sweaty people creeping around outside watching her every move. Her daughter (pictured with us in the last photo) handled the waiting crowd elegantly and even gave a tourist sitting on the floor a stool for her to sit on. Because we had showed up early, we were seated within 30mins of opening and finally fed at 3:15pm as Jay Fai cooks every dish individually and herself. The prices are a lot more expensive (10x) than what street food normally costs in Thailand but I was on a #YOLO adventure with my mom so what the heck. I ordered the famous crab omelette and my favorite childhood Thai-Chinese dish, poo pad phong kari (crab stir-fried in curry powder) and they were to die for! 🤤 Heaps of HUGE chunks of fresh crab 🦀 and the omelette had a thin crispy outer layer. Also, portions were big enough that we had leftovers for later (yay!) I’d be back again tomorrow if I didn’t have to wait so long and it wasn’t so hot! I’ll be back again with a reservation for sure! Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to reheating those leftovers! 😋😋😋
