  • It’s #Steak for dinner tonight! My #Teriyaki Steak with Wasabi & Lemon Zest. One of my favorite steak recipes & so easy to do at home. I like Filet Mignon or Ribeye steak but any steak will do. Teriyaki is a very simple sauce you make right in the same pan after searing the steak. There is no need to buy bottled Teriyaki (FYI most of those aren’t REAL teriyaki at all & they’re filled with ALL kinds of chemicals that you don’t want in your body). My recipe below (and yes it works for chicken, pork even tofu if you’d like to do #meatless)
.
Teriyaki Steak with Wasabi and Lemon Zest #照り焼きステーキ
.
Ingredients: (Serves 2)
2 Filet Mignons about 1/4 inch thick and 6-8 ounces each or steak of your choice
1 Tablespoon vegetable or olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper

Teriyaki Sauce (mixed in advance)
1 1/2 Tablespoons Sugar (I use superfine sugar)
1/4 cup Soy Sauce
1/4 cup Sake
1/4 cup Mirin (not seasoned or Aji Mirin regular Mirin they’re not the same)
For Serving: to taste
2 - 4 teaspoons Wasabi Paste
1 - 2 teaspoon Lemon Zest

Preparation:

1.  Pat steaks dry with a paper towel and season both sides with black pepper. Heat a skillet over medium high heat, add the oil and sear the steaks on both sides until brown on both side & cooked halfway to your desired doneness. Lower the heat to medium. Add the Teriyaki sauce and simmer, shaking the pan and basting the steaks with the sauce until the sauce thickens and glazes the steaks, about 5-7 minutes.

2.  Transfer the steaks to a cutting board and cut into 1/2 inch thick slices.

3.  Arrange the slices on two plates and pour the sauce over the steaks.  Sprinkle lemon zest on each steak and serve with small amount of wasabi on the side. #照り焼き #instafood #foodwinewomen #nonnom #foodporn #foodgasm #japaneats #foodstagram #foodandwine #buzzfeedfood #f52grams #eeeeeats #feedfeed #instayum #eater #japanesefood #japan #eattheworld #foodbeast #buzzfeast #japanesecooking #japanesecookingclass

  • Katsu Sando カツサンド (かつさんど) is a match made in heaven for all you lovers of deep fried foods. It's a sandwich made of fluffy Japanese crust-less bread with thick cuts of deep fried tonkatsu or chicken katsu, and maybe some shredded cabbage. Mr. JOC and my son favorite lunch option when we're in Japan and they enjoy exploring different shops for their ultimate favorite. ⠀
⠀
Have you explored the Ekiben 駅弁 (えきべん) bento lunchboxes options, sold at train stations? It's a definite treat for long distance rides on the Shinkansen 新幹線 (しんかんせん), bullet train. You may see boxes of Katsu Sando!⠀

  • What was the first Japanese dish you made at home? An easy first step that doesn't require you to stock your pantry of Japanese ingredients is #JapaneseCurry #カレー (かれー) if you use the premade roux sold at your local Asian/Japanese supermarket. Just saute root vegetables like carrots, onions and potatoes and add whatever protein you like (Beef? Chicken? Pork? Shrimp? Tofu?) ⠀
⠀
This Pressure Cooker Japanese Curry is an expedited version, using a pressure cooker or an Instant Pot. ⠀

  • I’ve always loved foods with a crispy and crunchy texture, and #SaraUdon #皿うどん is no exception! This is the Japanese version of the classic Chinese dish – Crispy Noodles with Seafood 海鮮炒麵, featuring stir-fried seafood, pork, kamaboko fish cake, cabbage, bean sprouts, and other colorful vegetables, atop a bed of pan-fried crispy egg noodles.⠀
⠀
This speciality hailing from Nagasaki 長崎 (ながさき) in southern Japan was also featured on an episode of the popular Japanese TV drama – Kodoku no Gurume (孤独のグルメ) [Season 6: Episode 7].⠀
