  • This handsome fella is Gnocchi, who’s recovering from IVDD using a GingerLead. ...
“Went over and picked up the Gingerlead yesterday! Love it! Worked out great...today is Gnocchi's Birthday and he is finally out of confinment 😁
He is walking great with the lead and it makes it much easier on me. It's snowing and raining today so won't be out too much but it's great.
Thanks again!”

  • This little one was diagnosed with IVDD last Friday, having not been able to use his back legs, wobbling and falling over a lot and hiding away trying not to worry anyone about it. He was rushed to @dickwhitereferrals where they operated on his spine on Saturday and did an amazing job and we are hoping to have him home tomorrow! He's a tough little pup is mungo, having already been through surgery as a youngster, when he was bitten by a big dog leaving him with a punctured lung and broken rib - and once again thanks to the wonderful folk at DWR and his super powers mungo is fighting once again. Looking forward to having him home soon!

  • I haven’t engaged very meaningfully with social media since around 2014ish, but sometimes I’ve found myself feeling some tug to try, especially if I could figure out a way to that felt like me. It’s not easy. I admire those who build society and community changing platforms, speak truth to power, make people laugh, are such excellent writers on the medium, take interesting pictures (and pictures of cute animals to look at when I’m anxious), document in interesting ways. But the tug was bigger tonight because I know some of you pray and send good thoughts to doggos and I need them. This is Cricket, who is our nine-pound house demon, loves us and our children with fierce and delightful weirdness, and makes us laugh more than anyone. She had a severe and sudden disc rupture at the T12 vertebrae this week (hereditary #IVDD), and lost all function below that point. She had surgery Friday night, and has been in ICU since — first picture is from Saturday afternoon. So we’re traveling in darkness, trying not to rush or crash into anything and figure out what new kinds of life and kindness is waiting for all of us in the shadow, and so if you do pray or otherwise send out bits of light, pray Cricket isn’t too lonely or scared, that her vets’ and techs’ hands are light and sure and full of treats, that we will learn what is best to do as we navigate, and Cricket’s way remains fun and adventurefull and pain free and hilarious. Include in those prays Bee, second picture, who is more different from Cricket than soap is from mud but is nevertheless her best friend and soul sister and familiar and has never been separated from Cricket and so is very blue. Our house is warm and bright and our love here big and we are so privileged and glad we had the resources to pay a pet insurance bill every month “just in case” and we’ll need to think serious thoughts about how to pay that forward. Right in this moment tonight, though, all anyone wants is Cricket home. Right here. Her bat ears getting rubbed, her exasperated dog sighs echoing in every corner. #cricketandbee #ivddsurvivor #dachshundsofinstagram

  • Unfortunately Teddy has been diagnosed with IVDD, every dachshund pawrents worse nightmare. He's currently paralysed but still has use of his bladder so we are hopeful with conservative management he will hopefully regain some movement. He's hating the crate rest as you can imagine and it kills us to see him struggling. He's such an amazing little man who's fought so hard to get his health back last year it's so unfair that he's now been hit with this 😢. Dedicated to dachshunds with IVDD, a charity we have mentioned in past posts have been amazing and sending Ted a pram again and other things to help support his recovery. We will keep everyone updated on his progress. #dachshundsofinstagram #ivdd #ivddrecovery #poorlypup #doingtime #sendpositivevibes

  • This morning we woke to the worst situation as a Dachshund owner.
Rupert was struggling to walk. His back legs were very unsteady and he kept falling over.
Dachshunds are an example of utterly shitty engineering and due to their extremely long spines are prone to slipped discs (IVDD). The worst case scenario is complete loss of the use of his back legs.
Luckily the vet believes it’s a partial slipped disc and with a few weeks of complete crate rest he will be ok.
He’s had a big dose of pain killers and anti inflammatories, and is fast asleep in his crate.
I can’t imagine this little idiot not being able to tear arse around the place, causing chaos everywhere he goes. 💔

All we can do is wait and hope for the best.

  • Now that somepup is officially free from kennel recovery, he’s slowly getting around the house and picking up old (begging) habits. We’ve had him so obstacle course-type stuff at home, as per his doc, to help strengthen his left leg which isn’t back to full reliable operational use just yet. Rocco is getting there and working hard ❤️ #IVDD #FrenchieRecovery

  • Mabel recently had emergency surgery on her spine for her IVDD (intervertebral disc disease). It’s a genetic disease and Mabel is the 3rd in her litter to have the surgery. Mabel experienced paralysis in her back legs along with incontinence. We talked to a neurologist who recommended immediate surgery, and post-op she is now walking again and back to her old self. She is supposed to make a full recovery. I made a video on my youtube channel about ways to recognize IVDD and prevent disc slips in your dog, and it’s linked in my profile. I’d recommend any frenchie owners to watch it. When I was first getting a frenchie, I thought the short nose and overheating would be the biggest issues; I had no idea about their spines. IVDD is a serious issue and not enough frenchie owners are aware of it. Many bulldogs are surrendered due to the cost of the surgery (trust me- it was a chunk of change and our insurance wasn’t any help). Spread IVDD awareness and donate to organizations like @roadogs and @frenchbulldogrescue who help dogs with medical needs get treatment and/or find new homes. 💗 Thank you for reading!

  • Rocco Update: Somepup is very excited to show off his rediscovered walking skills without his rear harness! He’s been given the all-clear so therapy will help him accomplish the rest. We are still working on his potty (2s not 1s) situation. Watch him break out into a run in my stories ❤️🙏🏼 #IVDD #FrenchieRecovery
