Turkey is a secular state, it observes some of the most important religious festivals marked by the Islamic lunar calendar such as Ramadan. The longest and most important period for citizens who, from dawn to dusk, must respect fasting and silence but, after sunset, life explodes in a ritual of celebration and collective prayer. The Ramadan period ends with the Eker Bayrami festival, 4 days of joy surrounded by sweets.
Celebrated on the 10th day of the pilgrimage month, the Aid al-Adha, or feast of the sacrifice, is an important moment in which it commemorates the miracle that Allah accomplished by substituting Abraham's son with a ram during the sacrifice.
Among the secular festivals there are various events that are organized in all the villages of the country and in every period of the year. We remember in mid-January, in Selçuk, the camel fight that attracts spectators from all over the Izmir region . In July, the Festival of Music and Folklore is celebrated, the International Festival of Arts in Istanbul, while in June it is the turn of the Kafkasör Festival. April 23rd is National Day and the first session of the parliament in the 1920s is commemorated.

  • The Cultural Center “Nikola Djurkovic” is preparing an international art festival called the III Festival of Light “Zasjaće palaci” which will be held on 20th , 21st and 22nd June 2019.
As part of the Festival we will have ten-minute long projections – audiovisual presentations of works of academic artist on the facades and ramparts of Kotor Old Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean.
The audiovisual presentation of each artist, or, we might say, a kind of the exposition in the open, implies roughly 40 photographs of the artists’ works, a short CV which will be displayed in three languages with background music. The Festival will take place at three different locations at the same time. Every night, in each of the locations, six artists will be presented in the total duration of 60 minutes; the presentation will be repeated twice in continuation so that the audience could see all three locations and the whole program, which means they will be able to see 18 art exhibitions.
Artists interested in participating in the III Festival of Light "Zasjaće palaci" must send us the following material: -	30-40 photos of their work, in a minimum resolution of 2560X1600 px, in JPG format -	CV with contact details, and -	A short video (5 to 7 seconds long) of the artists presenting themselves and their work, greeting the audience and the Festival.
The material should be sent in digital form on the CD via the address: City Gallery Kotor, Old Town, 85330 Kotor, Montenegro or to the e-mail: gradskagalerijakotor@t-com.me until 15th april 2019.
After receiving the material, the jury of experts composed of three members will choose, on their meeting set for April 17th, 54 artists who will participate in the III Festival of Light "Zasjaće palaci".
