  • In preparation for one of my best friend's destination wedding, I made a *woven* dress! I'm shocked too. Plus it was a Big 4 pattern, and despite my apprehension for their sizing and included ease, I think I managed to find the right size for myself! .
.
This is a #butterick6168 by #Lisettepatterns. I went one size down for the bust and hips, and two sizes down at the waist since the ease chart for Butterick says 4-5". When I held up the tissue to myself for the bodice, I concluded it was too short, so I raised the shoulder from the size 8 to size 12. I also muslined the bodice and it turned out well, so I made up the whole thing with the above sizes. I had just enough space in the shoulders to reach my arms forward and above my head. Not sure if this means I could have taken in the waist more, but the final fit suited my purposes so I didn't want to shave off any more fabric. I didn't like the front pleat instructions. It has you baste the pleats a couple of inches and then iron them, but on my small bust it gave me an unflattering rumpled look. So, I hand stitched the pleats all the way to their natural point as well as the crossover onto the layer underneath so it wouldn't keep flying open. It has a much better silhouette now. I still prefer to wear and sew knits, but I'm proud that I overcame my fear of both Big 4 sizing and handling a woven fabric. Plus I sewed an invisible zipper with no issues!✌🏻😊

Fabric is a rayon challis from @lafinchfabrics. A solid would have gone better with the pattern, but I still appreciate the design details. .

  • Look at the Dachshund! It was fun to make this pouch from some scraps using the quilt as you go method. It turned out quite nicely. Adding some new makes to my Etsy shop later today. Please check it out.

  • Doing a potentially crazy thing and have decided to start trying this diagonal parking stitching thing within my already cross-countried stitches 😂
Have to say though it's making the project a lot easier to follow and I'm enjoying seeing the picture develop a bit better (that light bluey/peachy bit is water I believe 😂) #crossstitchlove #stitchersofinstagram #crossstitch #instasew #instastitch

  • Let's talk about cool weather clothing. Do you also struggle with what to wear during winter?

One of the reasons I love summer is because I love to wear dresses; they're such an easy outfit. But when it comes to winter, I never know what to wear since I'm always cold. This year, I've been wearing A LOT of leggings, cozy socks, and sweaters. Plus, I've been exercising a lot more this winter to stay on top of my mental health, so activewear and athleisure are my go-to in this season. I don't sew often with knit fabrics because I don't enjoy it as much, which means I've been wearing less me mades and I’m trying to be OK with that.

One thing I’m working on is decreasing my sensitivity to wool fabrics and wool garments because it's such an incredible fiber. The problem is that ever since I was a kid, I haven't been able to deal with even the slightest itch. So far, I've invested in a few merino wool pieces, which are supposed to be softer, and for wool/wool blend sweaters and jackets, I wear a long sleeved tee underneath, and this seems to be working for me.

What about you, are there certain seasons and types of clothing you enjoy sewing more? What are your best tips for dressing in winter? Also, anyone itch sensitive that's gotten used to wool?

  • I finally took photos of my #wikstenhaori!! I had planned to find a tree with golden leaves to stand near to accompany the golden theme going on here and in the blog post I wrote weeks ago, but the hours to take photos outside, and in general, are so limited in the winter that I haven't found the time. SO, you guys are gonna get some classic-Emily stands in front of a white wall-photos 😊

I'm planning to share the post this Saturday so keep an eye out!

  • This is an Olya Shirt by Paper Theory. I made a size 14 and didn’t change anything except to omit the pockets as I’m planning to wear this as an under shirt with something else I’m working on.⁣
⁣
The instructions for this were great, and there are further sew along instructions with photos on the @paper_theory website which are ace too. ⁣
⁣
Pattern: #olyashirt by @paper_theory⁣
Fabric: ivory 100% linen from @spotlightstores⁣
Label: @kylieandthemachine ⁣
Notions: I thrifted these mother of pearl buttons from an @salvosstores linen blouse, which I turned into a hat for my niece ☺️⁣

  • Today I officially packed up the make-shift craftroom and returned it back to its previously boring existence as a dining table 😓. It's been a great break but like all good things, they have to come to an end. .
.
I'm still trying to catch up with posting the projects I finished during my sewcation. I featured this pattern on my story last week, you can find it in the highlight bar. It is actually a toile for a double guaze fabric I purchased. However at the end of the project, it was so cute and fitted so well I decided to make it a member of my permanent collection. .
.
.
.
Pattern: #pleiadesdress 1 by @french_poetry_ . I am between a recommended size 8 and a size 10 in this pattern. I picked the smaller size as it is a loose fitting dress. I added pockets to the dress and removed the zip from the back. It's pretty loose fitting that you can just slip it over your head with ease. Other than that, I didn't modify it structurally. So the fit is pretty spot on. .
.
.
Fabric: a red single ply crinkle guaze/muslin type fabric. Nowhere near as soft as the double guaze, it feels more like linen. .
.
Stay tune for the bathroom selfies photos! 😂
