  • STORY TIME 🔥
.
.
I have always been a rather happy and energetic human being - I used to win the “happy camper” award at gymnastics camp a lot due to my incredibly charming attitude 🤪
.
.
However - I used to use these qualities about myself as a cover up in how I truly felt about myself.
.
.
“Wow, Micki - when did you get smart?” As my 8th grade math teacher handed back my test that I studied REALLY HARD FOR. Um, ouch!
.
.
“Congratulations Micki! You got an A on your test!” - classmates —> (Teacher laughing) “Um, no that is her brother.” - BURN. One of my high school teachers used to put up our first initial of our first names and then our last names on a board in our room when we got a good grade on our test. My brother and I had the same initials. .
.
Not to mention my frustration before this with math as I was going through grade school. .
.
Needless to say math has never been a strong suit of mine. I have always had to work so much harder in it than anything else. In college I had to take a “special” math class that didn’t count for ANYTHING, but only to say “oh, yeah she is smart enough to finally go into College Algebra. I used to define myself as dumb because numbers are so backwards to me! I would be afraid to take chances because what if I expose my real self to people?!?? GASP!
.
.
But, now look at me!! I am running my own damn business for goodness sake! I literally cried in the airport a month ago when on my way to my mastermind in LA because of how freaking proud of myself I am. Don’t get me wrong I still have BIG MOMENTS OF DOUBT, but my goodness I was terrified of feeling exposed, but I did it all anyways! And honestly, I am not afraid to say anymore that I am backwards with numbers and when I am learning I have to practice over and over and over. I am not a textbook kind of girl. It is why I love training so much. Everything I have learned and am still learning has all been from practice, not a textbook.
.
.
So with ALL OF THIS - there is a point - my strengths are different than others -
I wasn’t gifted the skill set of a math genius because I was gifted with so many other things - STORY CONTINUED IN COMMENTS

  • I'm continuing my series on complex, chronic illness with a Facebook Live presentation this Friday on the topic of how illness can affect identity, and some strategies for dealing with the challenges.
So mark your calendar for Friday, October 18th at 9 a.m. Pacific time/12 noon Eastern (US), 6 p.m. Central European time, 5 p.m. UK time. And yes, that's a recurring weekly time when I'll be doing live videos on my Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sararussellntp/), except for the last Friday of the month when at that exact time I host a group Zoom call open to anyone who wants to talk about nutrition and health. So this is a regular time when we can connect. If you're in an incompatible time zone, you can catch the Facebook Live recordings later, and I will also do my best to do one call per month at a time that suits people in Australia and New Zealand because I know the regular Friday time doesn't work for those of you living down under!
And yes, I have openings for a few new nutritional therapy clients this month, so if you want to work with me on your nutrition and health from an individualized, whole-person and client-centered perspective, let's talk!

  • How stress affects us
.

Stress is a natural physical and mental reaction to life experiences. Everyone expresses stress from time to time. Anything from everyday responsibilities like work and family to serious life events such as a new diagnosis, war, or the death of a loved one can trigger stress. For immediate, short-term situations, stress can be beneficial to your health. It can help you cope with potentially serious situations. Your body responds to stress by releasing hormones that increase your heart and breathing rates and ready your muscles to respond.
.

Yet if your stress response doesn’t stop firing, and these stress levels stay elevated far longer than is necessary for survival, it can take a toll on your health. Chronic stress can cause a variety of symptoms and affect your overall well-being. Symptoms of chronic stress include:

irritability
anxiety
depression
headaches
insomnia
.

Chronic stress is also a factor in behaviors such as overeating or not eating enough, alcohol or drug abuse, and social withdrawal. If you already have a breathing problem like asthma or emphysema, stress can make it even harder to breathe.
Affect also digestion circular and cardiovascular system, sexuality and reproductive systems, immune system.
