I love me a bit of email marketing. Writing my weekly newsletter is actually one of my favourite marketing activities to do because I know that when I press send it’s going straight to the inboxes of people who want to hear from me, which let’s be honest is super lovely isn’t it? 🥰⁣

If you’re “doing” email marketing in your business then like anything it’s important to spend some time looking at your stats and these are some key ones to check in with on each campaign you send.⁣
⁣
💌 OR (open rate)⁣
Inbox pings and pop - they open your email. ⁣
This is the percentage of the total number of your subscribers that did this. ⁣
⁣
⁣
💌 CTR (click through rate)⁣
Email open and ooooh they take action. ⁣
This is how many people clicked on a link, CTA or image within your email. Now this can be a variable stat because it will depend on the content within your email each time. ⁣
⁣
💌 CR (conversion rate)⁣
They’ve gone the whole kit and kaboodle.⁣
Email marketing conversion rate is the percentage of subscribers who complete a goal action, like make a purchase, book a call. ⁣
⁣
💌 ROI (return on investment)⁣
Show me the moola. Kerching!⁣
This is where you can attribute sales and revenue to that action or purchase. ⁣
⁣
Something to note:⁣
If you’re being inconsistent with your email marketing, like sending one maybe every six months, likelihood is your stats won’t be able to give you solid answers you can take action with, if anything you might need to do a bit of re-engagement first and then step up the consistency to then give yourself a health stat pack to work with 😘⁣

  • New Year and time to get organized! ✉️ ✏️ ✅
If you’re making a big push for email marketing in 2020 (me too!), here are a few ideas for organizing your email contacts so you can best serve your customer base, and increase your revenue this year…(1) brand new subscribers … people who JUST signed up, aren’t customers yet, and you don’t have a ton of data on; (2) “hot” non-customers … those who open your emails, click your links, maybe even Reply to your emails sometimes, but for whatever reason haven’t bought from you (YET!); (3) recent customers … just what it sounds like! You define what “recent” means … to me it is those who have purchased in the last 3-6 months; (4) lapsed customers … those who purchased something in the past, but haven’t been back to buy in 6 months or more; (5) cold traffic … people who signed up, haven’t bought anything from me EVER or in the last 12 months, and who rarely or never open emails from me. **

Once you’re able to organize your list into these 5 buckets, the wheels will start spinning of different things you can send these groups! If you’re using an email marketing tool like ConvertKit (my personal fav), then you can easily separate out your subscribers into groups, and send them emails & offers specific to their needs and where they’re at in their customer journey. **

  • People are lazy.  Yep, I said it and here's why.⁣

When your audience is scrolling through Instagram, they scroll down with ease but rarely will they ever scroll up.⁣
⁣
But Kimberly, Why would anyone need to scroll up after reading my caption?⁣
⁣
So glad you asked!  You put so much time and energy into creating the perfect caption and end it with a call to action asking them to head to your profile.⁣
⁣
But did you realize unless you add your handle at the end of the caption, they have to scroll back up to the top of your image to tap your handle to actually get to your profile?⁣
⁣
So here's a tip.  At the end of your CTA, add your handle.  That way, you're making it super easy for your reader to enjoy your content then follow your CTA and click right over to your profile.⁣

You've heard that Pinterest can be used to grow your list and sell your services. So you set up a ➡️ DARN good-looking account. But... 🦗🦗🦗 ⁠

Here's why:⁠

1) ⚠️ You haven't key-word optimized your account. I know, I know! It's not the fun part. But it's CRITICAL. You need a keyword strategy. There are three steps to this: Brainstorm the keywords. Research them in the Pinterest search bar and narrow them to 40 to 50. Then add those keywords to your profile. You can't wing it with the keyword thing. Pinterest is a SEARCH ENGINE!)⁠

2) ⚠️ Your original content pins aren't compelling. The pins that point to your content (your website, opt-ins, videos, etc) need to be awesome if you want people to click through them. They need to be visually stunning, legible, branded. Include a call to action to let pinners know what you want them to do! (Use words like Explore, Learn, Discover, Enroll...)⁠

3) ⚠️ You're not pinning enough. To gain traction, you should be aiming to pin a minimum of 500 to 1,000 pins per month. But don't worry! Your original content pins are recycled on Pinterest (and take time to get an audience!), and your curated pins (other people's pins) also count. These add up fast. ⁠

4) ⚠️ You haven't been using Pinterest strategically for very long. It takes time for Pinterest to gain traction. Your reach and traffic will snowball over time. (And boy! When it does, you'll be so glad you committed to a Pinterest strategy! ⁠

I cringe when I come across lead magnets that were created just for the sake of putting something out there.⁣

I’ve found mega social media promotions and major hype about some lead magnets. But when I sign up, there’s nothing new or valuable inside it.⁣
⁣
When people provide lead magnets that have no real value, they’re actually repelling their ideal client.⁣
⁣
No, I am not talking about design or layout but rather the content. The value you give...⁣
⁣
It’s ok if you want to rehash a blog post and use it as a lead magnet… but the reader must find some additional value through it.⁣
⁣
If they don’t find something helpful, if they don’t experience a transformation through the lead magnet content, they’ll just unsubscribe.⁣
⁣
You’ll end up losing someone who could have been a future client.⁣
⁣
Make sure your lead magnet is useful. Subscribers should feel you’ve given them a solution to at least some of their problems.⁣
⁣
Once they experience that, it actually builds up your authority and credibility. ⁣
⁣
The person stays with you and actually listens to what you have to say in the future.⁣
⁣

I avoided Facebook ads for waaayyyy too long in my business. I would spend pretty much every second of my life doing some sort of organic marketing strategy. To be honest, Facebook ads scared me.

I didn't want to be one of "those people" who "wasted money on Facebook ads. And I had pretty much no clue where to even start with ads, and I had even less time and energy to learn about them.

But then I gave in because I was exhausted. I ended up creating a killer lead magnet that just took off. I worked SO hard over the past 2 years to get my email list up to 500 subscribers, and in a matter of 30 days after starting Facebook ads I had 250 new subscribers on my list. Holy crap.

But I didn't start off with instant success with Facebook ads. To be honest, the first lead magnet I ran ads for was a total flop. The second lead magnet...not much better. But then I really honed in on what my audience wanted, and the third one I created just took off.

    But then I gave in because I was exhausted. I ended up creating a killer lead magnet that just took off. I worked SO hard over the past 2 years to get my email list up to 500 subscribers, and in a matter of 30 days after starting Facebook ads I had 250 new subscribers on my list. Holy crap.

    But I didn't start off with instant success with Facebook ads. To be honest, the first lead magnet I ran ads for was a total flop. The second lead magnet...not much better. But then I really honed in on what my audience wanted, and the third one I created just took off.

  • i bet you're missing out on bookings.  wanna know how i know?  take a look at your instagram bio - do you have the home page for your .com listed as your one link?  if so, you're probably losing clients because you're making it too hard for them to contact you!  people are used to immediate gratification and we NEED to cater to that.  instead of listing your .com, i want you to include a link to your "contact me" page OR your email opt-in form!  let's make it EASY for our clients to book with us! 
once you've made the change, i want you to tell me what you used to have and what you've changed it to now!  bonus points if you make a post driving people to your new "link in bio" and use the hashtag #sparklesocietychallenge in your post!  together, we're going to #glitterdone!!!! #sparklesociety #sparklesocietyworkshops

  • J U N E ~ my peony has its first and only flower, my baby boy turns 18 months old today (this year is FLYING by), it’s my birthday on Saturday and I’m off to see the Spice Girls a week after that ✌️Plus my free email marketing challenge starts a week from today!   • We’ve got some new neighbours (of the sheepish variety) in the field next door… They’re so shy I haven’t been able to get close enough to get a good photo, so this guy will have to do in their place!

In other news, I recently (or finally) got round to setting up the beginnings of a newsletter. I’d actually had the sign form sitting in the footer of my website for aaages, but had neglected to connect it to a newsletter platform… And considering I work for a DIGITAL AGENCY, where we design and build websites, and I do this sort of stuff on a semi-regular basis, I think I should know better! >.<

However, it just goes to show that if you don’t value it yourself, you don’t do it properly. And that’s bad on my part. But understandable - because I didn’t think anyone would actually sign up for a newsletter from me (why would they?) And thanks to my lack of belief, I’ve managed to self sabotage my way into definitely not picking up any subscribers…

So, here’s my very apologetic pitch for why you might be interested in signing up for correspondence from yours truly: if you’re interested in my art, or if you fancy the idea of a monthly letter of personal truths and learnings (some by me, and some by others) covering the topics of life, business, and maybe some delightful in-betweens - then I’d love to connect and send you a letter or two.
