  • My mean speak has been bad these last few days.
.
It’s an impulsive, toxic reaction of which I’ve evolved over the last few years in my husbands addiction.
.
Try as I may not to, and I do try, there are some really mean things being said. And to my credit, a lot of cutting things that I am not saying.
.
The filter is on, but it’s faulty.
.
What did I say that has got me disappointed with myself?
.
Me: Did you remember to put a piece of fruit in A’s backpack for afternoon tea at Kindergarten?
.
Him: I sure did, I’m all over that stuff.
.
Me: Must be a recent thing.
.
... Ouch.
.
Is it a recent thing? Heck yes!
Was I carrying, and am I still carrying the mental load of our family? Of course.
.
Was it a nice thing to say? No.
.
Did it make me feel good? No.
.
Did it make him feel good? No.
.
Was it necessary? No.
.
I did a IGTV post on T-H-I-N-K recently. To THINK before we speak. I barely drew breath before making that mean response.
.
Is it...
.
True
Helpful
Inspiring
Necessary
Kind
.
And while it was TRUE, remembering That kind of stuff IS a new thing for him.
It did not tick any of the other boxes.
.
It was mean.
.
God knows we have said the worst things to each other. But as I said to my husband this morning...
.
I am broken as well.
I need to heal too.
I’ve had years of fight or flight responses in hyper survival mode.
I have toxic learned behaviours in addiction just like him.
His sobriety doesn’t instantly reset him or I to pre-addiction life.
.
This is going to take time.

🌍Wir von CROSSPOINT waren dabei💞
.
.
Am 17.02.2020 bei „GLÜXXIT on Tour“🎙️👌
.
.
.

  • These are the 3 hardest words anyone with an addiction will ever have to say, I recognised my problem and am comfortable within myself saying them.
These 3 words are the foundations to a happy future!! Without that acknowledgement you will only paper over the cracks.
If you need to burn my ear then I’m always open to chat, there’s a few folk on here that will testify. I am an addict

  • We all want #tobehappy. Whether we are conscious of it or not, almost everything we do is motivated by that desire. Yet, despite our best efforts and intentions, our actions and the ways in which we respond to situations can end up having the opposite effect.
This is easiest to observe in #extremecircumstances—a #conflict or #misunderstanding, a #destructive #romanticentanglement or a #gamblingaddiction. But the same dynamics play out over the course of a lifetime, often in less dramatic fashion, shaping the character and quality of our lives.
We respond in #habitualways to the events in our lives, often trying to avoid what is #challenging or #uncomfortable. And when #difficulties arise, we may suffer from a sense of #hopelessness or #fear.
#PerceivingtheRealityofOurLives
From a #Buddhistperspective, it is the #negativetendencies within our lives, such as #egotism, #greed and #cowardice, which are the root of the problem. These distort our ability to clearly perceive our reality, causing us to respond to our environment and circumstances in ways that compromise our own happiness and lead us to become entrenched in #negativepatternsofbehavior. Ultimately, all such tendencies can be traced to a lack of belief in the dignity and potential of our lives and the lives of all others.
When we are rooted in a sense of the expansiveness of our lives, we can face our circumstances squarely with confidence and an embracing spirit. This unleashes innate qualities of #courage, #wisdom and #compassion, enabling us to steer the situation toward a more positive outcome. Wisdom enables us to choose the kinds of responses and courses of action that will lead to #positivechange, while courage gives us the ability to #confrontsituations and #persevere until we create a breakthrough. Compassion expands and deepens our motivation by making us aware of the suffering of others, including those involved with us in a challenging situation. This is a process that Soka Gakkai members refer to as “#changingpoisonintomedicine.”

  • Jasmine and I wish to offer you all, and people external to the group, the ability to post anonymously.
If you want to share your story/journey, but do not wish to do it publicly, please send us a message on Facebook.
We will post your story anonymously. We take the privacy of our members and others very seriously. Please, as always, the best thing we can do is grow our little community. Spread the word. Hearing about others journeys, battles and heartache is what generates strength for us.
Jasmine and I have both started studying to become Counsellors. I’ll be majoring in addictions (Gambling, Narcotics and Alcohol). We are both very excited to knock this study over, and eventually have the ability to help others on a professional level.

A little update from myself:

It’s been a very stressful two weeks. I have been working away from my family, doing huge hours on a full house renovation, while also having to fly home for a few days to pack and move house, family dramas and a toddler (lol). My cup has been overflowing with stress and anxiety. But I have not thought once about gambling. My family is always a massive motivator to stay away. Sadly, this isn’t always enough. This group has given me strength in ways I never thought possible. Seeing others on their journey, seeing their pain and triumph, makes me feel whole.

Always remember, gambling doesn’t discriminate.

It takes your finances.
It takes your relationships.
It takes your dignity and self worth.
Then once you have nothing else left to give, it takes your life.

Stay strong, share our message, share your stories.

F@&$ Gambling.
F@&$ the pokies.

  • Hey guys I want to share with you about Enlight Treatment Center. Nowadays the stigma of addiction and the fear of being judged will often have families wait until the last minute to reach out for help. But act now!!! Read their Mission Statement below ⬇️ and reach out to them if you or anyone you know needs help. Their team is very professional, experienced and caring ☎️ 805-517-2920
Mission Statement
It is our mission to facilitate positive transformation of lives by promoting individual choice and independence through education, high-quality treatment and continuum of care, by assisting clients with identifying treatment goals, providing safety, encouragement, and motivation.

Our Philosophy
Enlight Treatment Center recognizes alcoholism and drug use as a disorder of the brain chemistry which has a negative impact on human psychology, mental and behavioral health, social status, and the personal characteristics.

Drug and Alcohol Use Disorders affect not only the individual but have negative impact on the family, community and the society in general. We believe each individual has the right to be treated with the outmost respect and dignity. We believe each individual who is suffering from this condition has the right to be treated at the appropriate level of care, regardless of creed, gender, race, sexual orientation, age or origin and they have the inherent potential for positive change, growth and recovery.

At Enlight Treatment Center we believe in the empowerment of human mind and spirit. When empowered through motivation and self-knowledge human mind constantly thrives; and therefore, it is our philosophy that through enlightenment each individual can acquire the power and ability to overcome addiction and be guided to learning how to make the right choices and be in charge of their own lives. #enlighttreatmentcenter #addiction #drugaddiction #alcoholaddiction #treatment #gamblingaddiction

  • It seemed to me that my unspoken boundaries where violated subtly over time... the usual theme in my addiction experience.
.
I didn’t realise the need to set boundaries. .
Big *face palm*
.
But this is a journey, so we evolve.
.
It soon became clear that yes, in order to safeguard myself physically and emotionally, that I needed to set some boundaries.
.
But it was hard. I didn’t know where to start. I questioned that what I required was reasonable - which goes to a myriad of issues in addiction. We lose trust in our instincts, what is ok and what is not, we take accountability for not wanting to trigger our loved one... so embarks a plethora of toxic and unhealthy behaviours.
.
I was so consumed by his wellbeing, feelings and needs that my own were clouded.
.
Boundaries needed. ASAP.
.
So I set boundaries. I clearly communicated what I wouldn’t tolerate.
.
I felt liberated!
.
But... boundary lines were crossed. Time and time again. .
I struggled to enforce and I flustered and faulted.
.
I drew on my available resources and thought of a tidbit in a parenting book
- Don’t threaten something you’re unwilling to follow through with.
- The consequences should be natural consequences.
.
So, I instinctively knew there were consequences that I wasn’t going to go threaten, so was a case of what was left. What I was comfortable with.
.
And here I am again, in recovery with my boundaries conundrum. We have been thrown a curve ball that is a potential trigger for relapse... I’m staying in my lane, trying not to take it on and problem solve, trying to avoid wrapping him in fluffy cushions around him for protection.
.
I’m going to have to have another boundaries talk and also talk about what the consequences of a violation of those boundaries will be.
.
This is another Fuck. My. Life moment... but I have to protect myself. Ignorance and ambivalence comes at too high a price.
.
So ... braveness and courage, come at me!

  • Today officially marks 8 MONTHS OF SOBRIETY for me!! It feels so amazing to permanently close a chapter of my life that was legit destroying me. I was blacking out 5 nights a week and putting myself in super dangerous situations. Getting in strangers cars and going home with them only to wake up in the morning not having a clue what happened the night before. Sleeping around and having zero respect for myself. Then allowing myself to remain in an extremely toxic and abusive relationship with a man who literally called himself “the real Ted Bundy”. Who would cheat on me, lay his hands on me, call me the worst of names and attack my weight, and threaten me. I picked up a disgusting habit of smoking cigarettes every day for over a year after being a division 1 athlete. And if I wasn’t getting shit faced every night and gambling my entire bank account away and cash advancing all of my credit cards at the casino, I was smoking weed and eating take out till I passed the fuck out. If I made it to work the next day after a black out, I would legit be the most unproductive miserable person in the world. I remember having to get up in the middle of an interview to run to the bathroom to throw up everywhere. Then I’d go home that night and somehow get myself to go back out for another round. This was my life for so long, just stuck in this vicious cycle and as much as I wanted out, I was an addict. Addicted to alcohol and the thrill associated with it, addicted to gambling and smoking cigarettes, addicted to food, addicted to Adderall, and my biggest Addiction was to my piece of shit ex. I can’t explain the level of dependence I had on him and no matter how horrible he treated me, I couldn’t stay away. I still battle urges to this day with him more so than any of my other addictions. I’ve realized that the addiction issues I have don’t just go away and probably never will. It’s now about learning healthier ways to cope with my emotions and to focus on personal development everyday. The more I improve myself the easier it is to NEVER go back to that place I was in 8 months ago. I’m falling in love with my new life and have worked so hard to get to this point!! 👏🏼

  • As most gambling addicts do, I was always looking for that 'big win'. The one that would change everything and I could ride off in to the sunset.
I would literally sit there at night and vision myself with a big bag of money, I'd pay all my debts off, treat all my friends, treat my kids, walk in a pub and buy everyone a drink and still have a load left for a holiday.
In 13 years of gambling almost every day, that big win never came.
Did I win big amounts of money? Yes I did a few times but a gambling addict is never happy with that. Winning more money just means more fuel to gamble with. You want more money. You see yourself taking the bookies and then some!
This is why I ended up in a rehab in the midlands with not a pot to piss and why Fred Done (Betfred) is on the Sunday Times Rich List. I'm not saying I bought him his yacht, but I'd say I've paid for a few of his haircuts!
If you have already admitted you're a gambling addict, you must realise you will never win!! Ever! Your addiction will always tell you to keep going, it will always try to pull you back in and even if you do walk out, you'll no doubt be back soon. You're on a winning streak right?
If you'd admitted to being a gambling addict the biggest win you will ever have is STOPPING!! The amount of stress that you will lift in your life is life changing. No more head in your hands, no more feeling like shit. No more letting people down and no more lying.
If you are struggling with a gambling addiction or any other addiction there are ways to get yourself sorted. Liam and I will always try to help where we can if anybody ever contacts us. You're not alone with this.
Don't keep chasing something that you will never catch 👊🏻
