  • Anyone in the know knows that you go to @asatofamily if you want ono local style sherbet in interesting and unique flavors.  But it's not the kind of place you can just roll on up to.  Going to Asato on Sunday morning is a ritual and a process.  First, you need to follow them online so you know the sherbet flavors that will be available and have a game plan.  They always have the classics (strawberry, pineapple, and Green River) but they have 3 other flavors that rotate and SOMETIMES they have a super special flavor that's available in limited quantities.  Then depending on how much of a gambling person you are (or how much you hate waiting 😅), you decide how early you want to arrive and stand in line.  In general, the earlier the better because they may run out of some of the rotating or  special flavors.  I mean yeah you can try to do one of the pre-sale packs online but they sell out so fast it's almost impossible to snag one... 😕

It's a good idea to go with a friend (in case you need a bathroom break or want to take stuff back to your car), bring a chair to sit on, and an umbrella (it gets hot and sunny and it sometimes rains). In this week's trek, I got there before the crack of dawn and took my place in line.  The main draw for me was that it was the last week for the cinnamon bun frosting with cinnamon swirl (limit 3). I also wanted to try the Blood Orange Creamsicle and Spiced Apple Cider.  On impulse, I ended up getting the small bottle of the cinnamon sauce too.

They also had a special drawing but I didn't win anything 😕

Anyways, of all the flavors I've had so far the Li Hing Float has been my favorite.  However that Cinnamon Bun Frosting one was SO AMAZING I think it's been dethroned!  I also love their Orange Creamsicle and their Blood Orange Creamsicle did not disappoint! The Spiced Apple Cider tasted like autumn and I loved the way that the apple shined through. #Repost from @panaceas_pantry with @regram.app ... This 6-ingredient mango and coconut semifreddo 🌞 is the perfect summer frozen dessert, and so easy to make. Alas, it’s by no means healthy, but the texture is perfect and the taste? Just like a Weis bar 🤤. I use the nature’s charm condensed milk- they’re tagged in the comments xx

You'll need

2 x large mangos
1/2 cup coconut condensed milk
1/2 cup rice malt syrup
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 x 400mL can full-fat coconut cream
3/4 cup coconut condensed milk
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Method

1. Set aside a metal or silicone loaf tin. If you are using a metal one, you'll need to line it first (with baking paper). 2. Cut the cheeks off the mango, and scoop the flesh into a blender. Remove any extra flesh from the mango stones, and add that in too. Add the 1/2 cup condensed milk, along with the rice malt syrup and lemon juice. Blend until super smooth and creamy, then pour into your prepared loaf tin. Set in the freezer for 1 hour.

3. Next, make the coconut layer by blending the remaining ingredients in your cleaned blender. Pour on top of the mango layer, then use baking paper (or a reusable silicone mat, or a repurposed, food-safe plastic bag) to carefully cover the top. Place back in the freezer and set for a minimum of 4 hours.

To serve, remove from the freezer and the loaf tin, turning on to a serving dish. Allow to thaw for 5-15 mins (depending on ambient temperature) then cut into slices and enjoy. For any remaining semifreddo that you want stored, freeze individual slices on a baking tray (lined with the baking paper again) then once firm, transfer to a air-tight container.
