  • 📍First Street Teochew Fish Soup

We aren’t bold enough to claim that First Street Teochew Fish Soup is the best fish soup in Singapore considering that we haven’t tried all the fish soups in Singapore just yet. We do believe however that with it’s delicious soup and unbelievably fresh and juicy fish slices, it’s definitely near the top.
Located at Upper Serangoon Road, the store, helmed by a trio of a father and his two sons, have been producing excellent quality fish soup for decades.
We patronize the store regularly, and our personal favorites are the batang fish soup ($6) and the pomfret fish soup ($9/$11). The batang fish that they serve is fresh, tender and tasty, and really delicious when eating with the chili sauce that they provide.
The flesh of the pomfret is extremely soft and sweet, and every moment spent eating it was heaven.
We also tend to add minced meat into our soup. The minced meat that they offer is very well seasoned, and the savory taste of the meat really complements the light tasting soup nicely.
First Street Teochew Fish Soup is also very very generous with their portions, and we honestly feel that they provide excellent value for money on their soups.
We highly recommend that you try this store, do just note that the queues can get pretty insane, so do be mentally prepared for that!
p.s. FYI the store is not at First Street 🌚

Our rating : 5/5

  • [Somerset] This is still my go-to combination: the Green peppers with Limbo fish ($45.90), whose softer, tender flesh I much prefer over the firmer, meatier texture of the Qing Jiang fish. I love the complexity of this saucy broth, which strikes a delicate balance between salty, spicy and sour from the green peppers and green Sichuan peppercorns, finishing with that satisfying tinge of numbness on the lips that the famed Chinese cuisine is known for. You’ll also be glad to know they no longer charge 50 cents a packet of tissue. @tanyu_sg

  • This Roasted Vegetable and Orzo Salad is full of delicious Mediterranean flavours and a perfect summer dish for picnics and barbecues. 😋🍴🥗😋🍴🥗 Ingredients
For the salad

1 medium aubergine (eggplant)
1 red bell pepper
1 yellow bell pepper
2 medium red onions
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
80ml olive oil
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp salt
½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
8oz/250g orzo (dried weight)
1 vegetable stock (bouillon) cube (optional)
For the dressing

1/3 cup/80ml olive oil
1/3 cup/80ml lemon juice (2 - 3 lemons, depending on their size)
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
To assemble

3½oz/100g pine nuts, toasted
3½oz//100g feta cheese, cubed
3-4 spring onions, sliced finely
Fresh basil, torn
Instructions
Cut the aubergine, peppers and onions into bite sized pieces.
Place the chopped vegetables into a bowl and toss with the garlic, olive oil, rosemary, salt and pepper. Transfer to a roasting pan.
Roast in a hot oven (200C/400F/Gas6) for 30 - 40 minutes, until browned. Turn the vegetables half way through so that they cook evenly.
Meanwhile, cook the orzo according to the instructions on the package, using a stock cube for flavouring if you wish.
Make the dressing by whisking together the olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, salt and pepper
Drain the orzo and place into a large bowl.
Add the cooked vegetables, scraping all the juices into the bowl too.
Pour the dressing over the orzo and vegetables whilst still warm so that it absorbs all the flavour. Mix together to combine.
Serve at room temperature with the toasted pine nuts and spring onions stirred through it and by adding the cubed feta and torn basil leaves on top 😋🍴🥗😋🍴🥗

  • Joined the burger frenzy queue for some Shakeshack which i first tried in UK. There are 5 selections of burgers and considering after a queue, you should try the most out of the burgers to make your time worth it. So i would recommend either SmokeShack or Shack Stack.
.
SmokeShack comes with all-natural Applewood smoked bacon on double grilled cheeseburger ($14.40/dbl). And also the Shack Stack that comes with Crisp-fried portobello mushroom with melted cheese on a single grilled beff patty ($14.30). Their Shrooms Burger had always been popular and also vegan but if you love beef like me, you can’t miss the grilled patty. Although each patty is thin, it is well charred and seasoned. So expect SmokeShack to be slightly more salty because of the bacons. For their crinkle fries, only original or cheese. So if you opt for Cheese Fries ($5.90) like me, you have to eat fast because the cheese does make the fries soggy. Shakeshack is also known for their milkshakes! I tried Classic Salted Caramel Hand-spun Milkshakes ($6.90) extra malted with additional $0.80 and it was pretty sweet but delicious. Yet it got abit too filling after the meal though. And i love their dessert which they named it concretes, Double Concrete with chocolate chunks mixed in ($9.50) is yum! But melts fast so you gotta figure out which to eat first. And Eu just had to try their Shack-cago Dog ($6.50) that comes with pickles and onions which i think can be passed. The rare few times when you spent almost $60 for two for ‘fast-food’ burgers.

⠀
Приятного аппетита❤️
