  • Antiques, collectables & delicious food at Cowhouse Market

We visited the Cowhouse Market in Pretoria yesterday and was so excited to see all the antiques and collectables on offer.

I will definitely have to go back and get some to use as props for my food and lifestyle photography.

Although it was quite a windy day, the atmosphere was awesome and you definitely have to try the delicious food available.

Of course we just had to take this photo as it is not every day you see a car this old.

  • So this weekend, I cooked (and cooked and cooked). We had absolutely no plans other than spending time at home with my lovely father-in-law and friends, so I just went wild and cooked all weekend. I made fry up, guacamole, Mimosa eggs (devilled eggs?), a roast chicken complete with all the trimmings, chocolate fondants with white choc sauce (pictured here), mini chocolate tarts, chicken stock, bread, pancakes, fajitas and carrot soup. Needless to say, I’m glad I’ve already made tonight’s dinner because I don’t fancy cooking at all today! I took this photo with my phone and edited it with my new favourite free app, @polarr. It was a grey old day so I increased the exposure and brightness, decreased the highlights, used the spot removal tool to get rid of the big reflections in the white pot (but left the reflections in the teapot), increased vibrance and saturation, changed temperature towards blues.   • Moving house has meant we have eaten a LOT of take away, and kept our energy levels up with a LOT of chocolate.  With only 4 weeks until we head off on holiday, it’s definitely time for a body spring clean ( I don’t do diets...) . These Black Pepper and Cinnamon Apple crisps are from @dalepinnocks book Healthy Every Day and are crazy simple to make. Thinly sliced apple dusted in cinnamon and black pepper in 100 C oven for 2 hours. Voila.

  • ........And then there was some #chocolatecake 
Someone asked me,the other day,if I can bake an eggless cake as her husband is a vegetarian. This cake is special because it has all the goodness of jaggery, wheat flour, chocolate and butter. Most importantly, it is an eggless cake. It is a treat for vegetarians who want to devour a sinful chocolate cake.

Dry ingredients:

Wheat flour: 2 cups 
Coco powder: 1/4 cup
Baking powder: 1 1/4 tsp
Baking soda: 3/4 tsp 
Wet ingredients 
Jaggery powder: 1 cup
Butter : 1/2 cup
Vanilla extract: 1 tsp
Buttermilk: 1 cup
Dark chocolate (melted): 1/4 cup

1. Preheat the oven to 170c.
2. Prepare a cake pan with a baking sheet and keep it aside. However, I didn’t use the baking sheet.
3. Using a hand-held mixer or a standing mixer cream jaggery powder and butter well until glossy.
4. Now add in melted dark chocolate and mix nicely. I used dark Choco-chips.
5. Add in vanilla extract and mix again.
6. Combine all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Sieving will enhance aeration.
7. Now transfer dry ingredients and buttermilk to the batter starting and ending with flour. Use fold and cut method.
8. It’s time to pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
9. Bake at 180c or until the skewer inserted comes out clean.
10. Keep the cake on the cooling rack. Relish the cake with a cup of tea or coffee.

It is advised to bring all the wet ingredients to room temperature before using.   • Its been one of those weekends when the piled-high laundry has ‘fresh-enough’ socks for tomorrow, the food in the studio from Friday’s shoot can probably wait until Monday before any serious ‘green fuzz’ starts to appear and the panic and heartburn from snoozing calendar reminders for the last 48 hours won’t set in until mid week, so in the meantime, I’m going to focus on what needs my immediate attention — this Cinnamon Roll Trifle with Rum Caramel. Из чего складывается прогресс в любой сфере?

Я думаю, из маленьких шажков, причем не обязательно только вперед. Любое движение лучше стояния на месте, принятия того, что есть, и нежелания что-либо менять. И я стараюсь напоминать себе об этом почаще.

В карусели два моих снимка, сделанные с разницей в полгода. Это мой прогресс. А также первый эксперимент с dark photo🌚

Пожалуй, я бы еще долго откладывала, если бы не участие в Блогобудне.
Поэтому в который раз убеждаюсь, что разные марафоны и другие активности очень полезны, ведь заставляют выйти за рамки комфортных для себя кадров, пересмотреть то, что ты уже сделал, и попробовать наконец что-то новое.

Но, конечно, никакие конкурсы не помогут, если нет собственного стремления стать лучше. Они всего лишь небольшой толчок, объективная возможность, которыми обязательно надо пользоваться.
