Our last venue recommendation from Berlin is @augustinerbrauerei, with its cuisine, its own beers and the atmosphere we enjoy very much. We tried goulash, one of the signature dishes, it was really very delicious.

  • BRAMMIBAL’S DONUTS • [unpaid ad] I’m not the biggest fan of donuts 🍩 but I can’t help going to @brammibalsdonuts from time to time 🙊. Also I had seen that they had a seasonal Spekulatte (4,50€) with homemade spekulatius cookie cream 🍪 + an espresso shot ☕️ + oat milk 🥛 and I was dying to try it! And it didn’t disappoint 🤤. It had the perfect flavor for a wintery drink 👌🏻💕. My bf had the chai latte (~3,50€), which I already knew was delicious, and of course we ordered some donuts (2,50€/each) 😏. We had two of their monthly specials, the “Milchreis” topped with rice pudding 🍚 and cherry compote 🍒, and the “Baileys”, filled with baileys custard, covered in a baileys glaze and topped with almonds. Both were amazing! The latter was my bf’s favorite, but I kinda liked better the one with the rice pudding and cherry because I loved the contrast of the sweetness of the donut with the slightly sour compote 👌🏻💕. As you see, they have sorts to match everyone’s preferences! 🥰 #Berlin #Prenzlauerberg

  • Finally making some „Salsa Macha“ at home! One of the many delicious things I tried at @sanchez_cantina one year ago. It’s an extremely flavorful Mexican chili oil made with nuts and three different types (!) of dried chili peppers („Pasilla Chiles“, „Ancho Chiles“ and „Chiles de Árbol“). First of all some garlic was fried in neutral oil - just for the flavor, the garlic is discarded. Next step was frying the dried chili peppers one after another until they slightly puffed and darkened (around 30–60 seconds). Then some peanuts were added and also deep fried until browned - the recipe asked for raw ones, but I had to use some already roasted ones instead. The oil was left to cool, while peanuts and chili peppers (check out how „shiny“ they got after frying) were coarsely chopped with a food processor. Oil was then added again with the motor running until everything was finely chopped. In the end I only added some salt to taste. Turned out to be incredibly delicious! Much more complexity and depth than the average chili oil I have made before. The nutty aroma through the peanuts worked extremely well with the heat of the chili peppers - the oil is surprisingly mild. What a shame you a rarely find it at any of the Mexican restaurants in Berlin. It’s sooo good! Unfortunately I slightly burned one of the peppers when frying, so the oil got a little bitter aftertaste. Super annoying, but still good enough for me to eat it with almost everything I cook at home ... meat, eggs, pasta, etc. I even added it as „aroma oil“ to some of my instant Ramen! If you like chili oil, definitely give this a try ... the recipe here is by @bonappetitmag

  • HOLY EVEREST • [ad - invite] More insights of the food at @holyeverest! After the appetizers and their delicious Momos in chili sauce 🥟🌶 (6€) we tried their Khasi Thali, that featured: Lamb curry, pickled garlic 🧄 and ginger, lentil soup, rice 🍚, a seasonal veggie curry 🍛, stewed spinach 🥬 and papadam with tomato-achar (chutney 🍅) and salad 🥗 (18,90€). A Thali is the perfect kind of dish if you wanna try a little bit of everything and get a good grasp of the Nepalese cuisine 🇳🇵, but having tried everything, in my next visit I would go for the lamb curry, it was too delicious! 🤤 And it was lovely to have the pleasure to hear the peaceful chef Rajesh Lama, a former climber 🧗‍♂️ of mountains 🏔 (such as the Everest itself!), talk about Nepal and its culture and food 🥰 while we ate. Can’t stretch this enough, good food, the kindest stuff and a lovely location make this place a perfect lunch spot, worth trying if you’re into this cuisine! 👌🏻💕 Also worth mentioning is that they have lots of vegan options 🌱 and they state on the menu the providers of the ingredients they use for their dishes to ensure the customers everything is sourced consciously 🙏🏻. Besides the restaurant, you can find them as well at @markthalleneun on Thursdays! #Berlin #Prenzlauerberg

  • Personal recommendation: worth the trip ✨ [unpaid advert] some more gorgeous tapas from our visit to @barravalberlin: the beetroot salad with walnuts and a blue cheese dressing (€7.2) 🧀 the (swipe ➡️) baked goats cheese with tomato jam and honey (€7.5) 🍯 and the (swipe ➡️) aubergine tempura with honey (€6) 🍆

I think the goats cheese was our personal highlight of the evening. Goats cheese and honey are already a match made in heaven, and the sticky, acidic tomato jam seriously took it to another level 🍅

the salad was a lovely breath of fresh air amongst all the rich, heavy dishes, but I found it a little overpriced 🥗 and last but not least, that aubergine 👌🏻 they initially forgot our order so it was brought out last, which turned out to be just as good, as it made the perfect dessert 😍 the texture of the crunchy aubergine was just fantastic, and the addition of flaky salt and pepper really brought out the flavour of the honey 🍯

overall, I found all the vegetarian dishes we had delicious, but a little expensive! Stay tuned for the rest 💕

  • Lunch menu at "San", the newly opened "Izakaya" in "Mitte". One of the juiciest, crispiest "Karaage" with radish pickled in "Yuzu", green beans with black sesame, freshly steam rice, "Miso" soup with seaweed and deep fried tofu, pork belly braised in soy sauce and lotus roots with carrots, edamame and seaweed. Everything seemed to be of exceptional quality starting with that extremely delicious Japanese fried chicken. Super thin coating (usually made out of starch) with tender and juicy boneless chicken. All of the little sides were really well done ... I particularly enjoyed the pickled radish and the extremely tender pork belly ... and the bowl of rice - so simple, but extremely delicious and super comforting. A very promising new Japanese restaurant ... they also offer an exciting selection of Sushi & Sashimi (including "o toro", "chu toro" and "akami" tuna). The restaurant itself has a beautifully clean, minimalistic design - the exact opposite of all those ridiculously over-decorated "Japanese Izakaya" popping up in Berlin. „Less is more“ with an amazing attention to detail ... just check out that beautiful Japanese tableware. The lunch menu costs €14, so its not cheap, but definitely worth the price! Thanks to @berlinfoodstories for the recommendation.

Sandviçlerin iç malzemelerinin bolluğu ve tazeliği harika. Ahh ama bir de Vişneli-Badem Ezmeli Çörek var ki insanı bir sabah ansızın Berlin’e uçurtacak cinsten🙈

The best bread we have eaten in recent years is definitely in @Zeitfuerbrot . The brown German bread that we have heard since childhood was not a myth, it was real😍. The freshness of the sandwiches' interior ingredients is great. Ahh, but there is also a Cherry and Marzipan Schnecke 🤤 that will make you fly to Berlin suddenly one morning.

  • „Pasta alla Carbonara“ - really one of the most challenging pasta dishes to make when it comes to cooking technique ... at least, if you want to make a really, really good one with a thick, but creamy and glossy sauce (obviously without using any heavy cream!). This method here I learned through @gambero_rosso - while cooking the pasta in boiling water, you fry some bacon (ideally „Guanciale“) in a pan until crispy. You also add a slice of onion to the pan for additional flavor (but take it out afterwards) and deglaze it with a little bit of white wine. So you already have that crispy bacon and a thin sauce from the bacon fat and reduced white wine. Then, most important thing, you take a big bowl and mix grated cheese (ideally a mix of „Parmigiano-Reggiano“ and „Pecorino Romano“) with 1 whole egg and 1 egg yolk together with freshly ground black pepper. It should form a thick eggy-cheesy-peppery paste ... and then you just wait until the pasta is ready ...
