  • A dream come true - I’m the newest Canadian IFBB PRO!
I still can’t believe this happened. But it really does take a village - no matter how good of an athlete you are, without the support of people around you, none of it could happen.

My first post AS A PRO, I dedicate to my incredible coach @amerthehammer and our amazing team @hammerfitness. His attention to detail, unwavering support and knowledge of what he does amazes me.
The support of my team mates and the millions of warm messages I received today made this day so special. Thank you @tinyfitjen and @gabsfitt for adjusting my posing and being present at the venue @therealleomc and many others who came up to me and wished me good luck.
Thank you to all my clients who came to support me and all the Instagram and Facebook followers who wished me good luck and sent good vibes before the show.

  • @onelifefitnessatl In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to share some personal stories from both our staff and our members who have been affected in some way by breast cancer. ⁣
⁣
"My journey began with my mom. She was diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 50 and doctors thought it would be a good idea for her to have genetic testing done, and when the results came back positive it was suggested that myself and sister get the testing as well. I remember getting the call that I had the gene like it was yesterday(it was in 2007), I was in a gym locker room getting ready to take BodyPump with my favorite instructor Kristin Donnelly. Anyways, they asked if I wanted to schedule a therapy appointment and I declined, I knew where my therapy was...group fitness, where I could escape all things in my life for an hour. A few years later after having kids I knew it was time to consult more with my doctors and make a plan to hopefully help me live a long and healthy life. Between my breast specialist and plastic surgeon a plan was put in place for me and surgery was scheduled. I had a prophylactic double mastectomy with latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction. ⁣
⁣
After healing I found myself missing something, group fitness. I got back into the gym and started working out again, slowly, learning the new feelings/sensations and learning my limits. I love that I found myself again in the gym surrounded by positive and helpful people."

  • #mealprepsundays , a routine that never really changes whether it be off season or prep. The food doesn’t change a great deal either to be honest , just more or less of it depending the direction I’m going. I remember when I was doing my first ever show and listening to everyone back stage about there preps and how expensive it had been food wise . All I could think was , it should have got cheaper in prep not more! But I think that highlights 1 how many potential bad coaches there are out there and 2 how many athletes potential don’t stick to diets well coming in to a prep or 3 just think all you have to do is diet for 3 months and then wonder why they didn’t place at the end. In my case I had trained and stuck to a diet plan for 2 years before we even considered a competition prep. The results have spoke for themselves. Gave myself time, trained and ate properly and placed in shows even in my first year competing . Don’t cut corners do it properly. #bikiniathlete #fitnesscompetitor #rcrnutrition #rcrnutritionambassador #prep #food #sunday #diet #training #bodybuilding #progress #rest #teamviking⚔️

✖️Years of fucked up diet programming
✖️Years of hating myself
✖️Years of not feeling good enough, lean enough
✖️Years of obsessive counting and measuring
✖️Years of grabbing my imagined love handles and poking and prodding my thighs
✖️Years of trying to constantly start new diets only to fall off, and then feel shame and guilt because “why can’t I just fucking do this??!”
✖️Years of losing and regaining the same 20-30 lbs multiple times/year
✖️Years of doing 2-3 hours of cardio with nothing to show for it except an unresponsive metabolism and a psychological mindfuck
✖️Years of hiding food, binging on sweets, feeling self-conscious in public and wearing oversized clothes
✖️Years of misery I didn’t realize I had a say in
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BUT ALSO ... pictured: someone who overcame all that shit and took the time to figure out a low-stress healthy way of eating (hello, @moderation365!) and training that wasn’t perfect, but was good enough to get consistent, get results and save myself a shitload of mental anguish. Aaaand a forehead vein that’s always present🤔😂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s been a long road, fam🙌 And the journey never ends, but it *can* get a heck of a lot easier, if we just have the courage to try something new, something moderate, something sustainable.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m not the leanest I’ve ever been. I’m also not the softest. I’m the culmination of figuring out what will work for me long term. And I like it. I like it a hell of a lot.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Grateful for this transformation, mostly mind but also body.

If you’re ready for me, I’m ready for you. Nine spots left in my 12-week Physique Session coaching program. We start Monday. Link in bio👉 @jillfit

  • Chronic Pain:
.
Just about everyone feels pain from time to time. Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong. Once the injury heals, you stop hurting.
.
Chronic pain is different. Your body keeps hurting weeks, months, or even years after the injury. Doctors often define chronic pain as any pain that lasts for 3 to 6 months or more.
.
Chronic pain can have real effects on your day-to-day life and your mental health.
.
The feeling of pain comes from a series of messages through your nervous system. The injury turns on pain sensors in that area. They send a message in the form of an electrical signal, which travels from nerve to nerve until it reaches your brain. Your brain processes the signal and sends out the message that you hurt. (Web MD)
.
Usually the signal stops when the cause of the pain is resolved .
.
BUT with chronic pain, the nerve signals keep firing even after you've healed.
.
Chronic pain is no joke. Spinal cord injuries are no joke. I have a medical device implanted in my back which helps block pain receptors sending messages to my brain.
.
BUT it’s not 💯 affective. It helps, absolutely! But some days, weeks and even months are still hard and full of pain. This past couple weeks are no exception.
.
So don’t mind me as I cry or lay on the floor or go to bed at 8PM.

  • IMPORTANT CONVO👇
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you paying attention to BELLS AND WHISTLES or are you prioritizing the NUTS AND BOLTS??
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you’re stressed about exactly how many grams of protein to eat within minutes of your workout, but you’re not even lifting consistently🤔
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you’re worried about what supplements to take, but you’re not sleeping at all😒
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When you’re stressed about how much sodium is in your peanut butter, but you’re barely eating any vegetables🤷🏻‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Listen, most of us—normally a product of diet culture and all-or-nothing marketing—feel like every single health decision is really important. Equally important.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But they’re not, in terms of actual outcomes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There’s a hierarchy of significance in anything you’re trying to achieve.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the nuts and bolts are things we must master before even entertaining the bells and whistles.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bells and whistles are “nice to haves” but they’ll never move the dial if the nuts and bolts aren’t in place. In the words of @jadeteta, “It’s like trying to change a tire with a pencil”—it’s the least effective tool for the job.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But bells and whistles are shiny and sexy, so I get it. But ultimately they’re a distraction from us just doing the old shit that still works.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Prioritization and discernment are key here. So...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
NUTS AND BOLTS:
✔️Sufficient protein
✔️Eating lots of veggies
✔️Feeling satisfied by your meals
✔️Weight-training
✔️Exercise intensity
✔️Recovery activities
✔️Enjoying your process
✔️Making decent choices 90% of the time
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
BELLS AND WHISTLES:
✖️Supplements
✖️Meal timing
✖️Counting and measuring to obsession
✖️Additives
✖️Organic vs not, grass-fed vs not, etc.
✖️Post-without “window”
✖️Cardio or weights first
✖️Dry brushing, lemon water, fit tea, etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t give one iota of a shit about the second list until the first is handled, ya?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What you think? What would you add?👇👇
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Drop an emoji below if you agree👇👊🔥

  • 🔎 What society paints ultimate health to be like: Kale, turmeric, apple cider vinegar, quinoa, celery juice, Greek yoghurt, egg whites, hours of gym, hustle hustle hustle 💥🏋️‍♀️⁣
⁣
🔎 What ultimate health for ME personally looks like: white rice, broccoli, water, chocolate, bananas, berries, eggs, chips, cookies, mindful movement, sleep sleep sleep 🛌🌱⁣
⁣
🔘 We don’t have to make drastic shifts to start living better ⚖️⁣
🔘 We don’t have to stomach foods we don’t like to be ‘healthy’ 🥗⁣
🔘 We don’t have to go to the gym for hours a day to be fit 🕗⁣
⁣
Ultimate health isn't about ticking prescribed items off a checklist 📝⁣
⁣
✅ It's about living a life that you enjoy and can maintain long term. ⁣
✅ It’s about ALWAYS having freedom around your food, and not feeling like you HAVE to choose brown rice over white rice.⁣
✅ It’s about eating in moderation, but not from a place of fear and restriction, but from a place of love and respect for food and their nutritional content 💖⁣
⁣
☀️ Our fitness and health habits should be doable even on our worst days, not just our best 🌸 happy Friday fam 💯🌈✨

🔎 What ultimate health for ME personally looks like: white rice, broccoli, water, chocolate, bananas, berries, eggs, chips, cookies, mindful movement, sleep sleep sleep 🛌🌱⁣

🔘 We don’t have to make drastic shifts to start living better ⚖️⁣
🔘 We don’t have to stomach foods we don’t like to be ‘healthy’ 🥗⁣
🔘 We don’t have to go to the gym for hours a day to be fit 🕗⁣

Ultimate health isn't about ticking prescribed items off a checklist 📝⁣

✅ It's about living a life that you enjoy and can maintain long term. ⁣
✅ It’s about ALWAYS having freedom around your food, and not feeling like you HAVE to choose brown rice over white rice.⁣
✅ It’s about eating in moderation, but not from a place of fear and restriction, but from a place of love and respect for food and their nutritional content 💖⁣

☀️ Our fitness and health habits should be doable even on our worst days, not just our best 🌸 happy Friday fam 💯🌈✨

  • A bodybuilding competition does not have to be the next step in your fitness journey 🏆⁣
⁣
There have been SEVERAL times when I felt like I needed to compete to take my fitness to “the next level” 📈⁣
⁣
This is not to say that competing is wrong / bad. There are some incredible people who do this regularly and maintain healthy balance off season. But that ain’t me🙅🏻‍♀️⁣
⁣
Competing was an amazing journey; I learnt a lot about what our incredible bodies are capable of - but it brought to light many of my deepest insecurities, including my dependence on external validation to feel worthy🔭✨⁣
⁣
And more importantly, it was a very confronting reveal of my toxic relationship with food 🥗🍔 Post comp was a long and enduring journey that took lots of patience, resilience and self-love to repair and nurture that relationship 🌱⁣
⁣
For many of you ladies out there, I know you want to take a stand; to prove that you are capable, strong and empowered💪🏼 If you really want to compete, that’s amazing. ⁣
⁣
But do it for YOU 👈🏼 if it’s not a decision for YOU, know that this will not change how you feel about yourself. ⁣
⁣
Like with ANY big decisions, it has to be for YOU and only you. As soon as you place that in something else, you hand over the responsibility of your power 💥⁣
⁣
You do not need to compete to take your health and fitness to the next level. It’s easy to think physical results will prove that, but little do we realise, that it’s the INNER WORK that far precedes that, and I definitely learnt that the hard way 🧠⁣
⁣
Do any of you relate to this?💬☝🏼

  • Can I be completely honest with you and admit that I haven’t felt myself lately?😞⁣
⁣
▪️I’ve felt unmotivated⁣
▪️Not good enough⁣
▪️Not fit enough⁣
▪️Not lean enough⁣
▪️Not smart enough⁣
▪️Not cool enough ⁣
⁣
Do you ever go back in time and look at photos of yourself previously, when you were more lean? More muscular? And wonder to yourself, why don’t i look like that anymore? 😢⁣ when I disappear from my insta stories, it’s usually one or all of the above reasons that I go hide in a corner 😂
⁣
The truth is, I get stuck in that toxic cycle regularly, and each time still feels as shit as the last 😳⁣
⁣
But I constantly have to bring myself back to the reality, and remember that the me in the left wasn’t actually very happy at all. She was barely eating anything and spent about 3 hours a day at the gym. She was tired and weak. She wasn’t sure why she was doing it all 🥗🏃‍♀️😖⁣
⁣
But the me on the right, is living and loving life. Has built strength, both physically and internally. She eats out. She doesn’t count her calories. She eats chocolate and chips. Her workouts are fun. There is balance and she is happy🏋️‍♀️🍕🥰⁣
⁣
Health and fitness might *look* a certain way on social media, but I think that true health and fitness is about how great a person feels about themselves and in their skin; how their practices are a LIFESTYLE and not a chore💖⁣
⁣
Has anyone else felt the same? 🤪

  • Getting to the gym IS the battle, not the workout itself 😅 I love training, but getting my ass there can sometimes be a struggle... ⁣
⁣
🔈If this sounds a lot like you too, here are a few tips I've been working on that might help!💡⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Remember WHY you're doing it 🔥 if you're not sure why you're doing it, then chances are you won't be very motivated for very long! Leave little reminders of this everywhere.⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Track your training & set smaller goals 📝 Keeping track of your weights will help you to monitor your progress; then you can start setting small strength / rep goals for each session!🏋️‍♀️⁣
⁣
3️⃣ Hype yourself up with good beats 🎧 Make a playlist of them all the songs that get you pumped and listen to them when you need a good hype! ⁣
⁣
4️⃣ GET a hype buddy 🤹‍♀️ If you can find someone who can come to the gym with you too, this will help to hold you both accountable!⁣
⁣
5️⃣ Switch up the location 🏘 a new change of scenery can be re-invigorating!⁣
⁣
6️⃣ Wear cute activewear 🧢 ok sounds superficial, I’m 150x more confident when I love my outfit??⁣
⁣
7️⃣ Eat something 🍌 maybe you're just hungry and need a little boost before you train! 😝⁣
⁣
8️⃣ Do what you LOVE 💖 whether that's personal training, a particular workout split, powerlifting, yoga, les mills, bootcamp, F45; whatever it is, make sure you're doing exercise that you're passionate about and is exciting for you. Otherwise you will never want to challenge yourself, and it will be hard to stay consistent or improve! ⁣
⁣
📌Save these tips for when you need to re-read them and let me know if it helped! 🔖⁣

  • “Your test can be your testimony, if you choose for it to be.”
.
Exactly 1 year ago on my trip to Vegas for Olympia, I started experiencing extreme bloating and stomach pain.
.
I couldn’t digest anything besides bone broth.
Tried to workout but was too weak.
Gained weight.
Struggled to do just about anything.
Let me tell ya, it sucked!!
.
A few visits to emerge and lots of not-so-fun tests later, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis; an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (ulcers and inflammation in my digestive tract.)
aka my digestion is far from “normal.”
.
Unfortunate yes and as hard as it is most days to see past this setback, it’s a lifelong condition that I have to manage.
.
Not being able to compete this year was HARD and hearing others say “you might not be able to compete again” was even harder. But I take it as fuel to my flame and truly believe everything in life happens for you, not to you.
.
It’s been quite the ongoing battle figuring out which foods I can actually eat; but after A LOT of research and trial/error, I finally feel like I can do this.
.
During the process, my eyes were sure opened to how serious stomach issues are and how much your day to day life can be affected. I hope to help and inspire others who are struggling - to have faith that things will get better.🙏🏼
