Fantastic global connecting this morning with Susan back in my homeland in Cork and me in New Zealand.  We couldn't be any further apart geographically, but our conversation was buzzing and I'm looking forward to hearing it when she's got it all edited - link in bio 👉

  • Are you engaged right now? If not, don't feel bad. We're all so distracted and have a lot of conflicting needs right now which may make our workplaces more challenging.

Today we'd like to share Blessing White's X-Model of Employee Engagement (2012). Engagement is a bit of a buzz word in the OD/ HR/ Coaching spheres. Organizations want more engaged employees but what does that mean and why? While engagement is defined in a multitude of capacities, the concept centers around the relationship an employee holds with their organization and the work they do. More engaged employees tend to be happier and more productive, with engaged work forces transforming the success of organizations. Blessing White argues that with increased engagement, businesses can thrive. 
This model proposes there are two paths to employee engagement, one being organizational and the other being individual. Individuals who are high on satisfaction but low on contribution are called "the Honeymooners", these are individuals who are personally satisfied but low on organizational contribution. This is typically new employees who are not fully up to speed. Employees who are high on contribution but low on satisfaction are destined for burnout. Individuals low in both satisfaction and contribution are disengaged and can be costly both organizationally and personally speaking. Finally, workers who are high in both satisfaction and contribution are "engaged". These are workers who are satisfying their own values and goals while also being aligned with that of the organization.

  • Staying at home to promote social distancing is beneficial in our fight against COVID-19. However, it also brings forth an opportunity for reflection. As we spend more time indoors and away from the hustle and bustle of our external environment, we have the ability to take inventory of our goals and determine whether we are getting closer to them. Further, we can spend more time thinking about what is truly important to us in regards to our professional aspirations. Take the opportunity to reflect on what is truly important to you, so that you can execute accordingly.

وقتی افراد شما را نمیشناسند، داشتن شناخت مثبت آنها در مورد شما، اهمیت بیشتری پیدا میکند. معتبر بودن، یا باور پذیر بودن، برای 
مخاطبانتان اهمیت زیادی دارد. اما چه چیزهایی به یک نفر اعتبار میدهد؟
ویژگیهای زیر به این مسئله کمک می کند:
باید این گونه به نظر برسد که از چیزی که در مورد آن سخن میگویید، شناخت دارید

  • The leadership letter for March has just landed in inboxes. It feels strange to think of where we all were when I sent the previous one in February. I hope the content around strengths in crisis, online meetings and emails proves useful, and that you enjoy the read, watch and listen recommendations, even though you’ll have to find an alternative to your commute for going through those!

  • Open dialogue workshop at IT company (2017, One year)

I was in charge of hosting open workshop at major IT company in Japan. This workshop is held every other months to aim to collaborate with people from other group company or other professional.  We have tried proaction cafe to achieve our goal and I facilitated the process.  It was relatively new approach in Japan and very exciting !! Ofcorese I had FUN, too.

Participants are all middle management or company president at small business and passionate with learning to improve their performance. As my co-coach was a man of great experience, I learned a lot from his attitude and intervention towards the team. C'est une découverte. Ce qui m'attire, sans connaitre, c'est: 
1 -  la simplicite de la méthode. 
2 - la démarche qui paraît humble car présentée comme "une capacité naturelle mise en evidence" et pas comme une methode inventée.

3 - le potentiel de paix que cela peut apporter pour les individus et les organisations : communication, prévention des tensions, prise de décision et ... gestion de crise !
