  • So two days in Suffolk, boiling hot, rail tkts and Airbnb in the middle of nowhere plus a fantastic pub 40 quid! I ain’t gonna sit in no plane! Plus I got really scared walking along the little path above the cliffs which was an added bonus coz it made me feel alive! I’m glad we did it coz I don’t think it’s gonna be there much longer. I’ve always wanted to visit these places and now I have. Next stop Northumberland.

  • Friday inspiration - aren't sand dunes amazing? Not only are they natural barriers from the wind and waves, protecting inland areas from damage and flooding, but they are miniature ecosystems, providing habitat for plants and animals, many of which are rare species. These 'dune systems' are also giant adventure playgrounds, places to run at full tilt, leaping and hiding from heights and dips. They are mysterious, constantly changing and bleakly beautiful! *

  • Homeowners can take several steps to reduce the #runoff, and one way is the installation of #RainGardens in the home landscape. A #rain #garden is a low area that has been landscaped, allowing for runoff of #impervious surfaces to collect in one area to #infiltrate and be absorbed into the #soil. They are a popular way for homeowners to reduce #erosion and #protect #water bodies while improving the aesthetics of the landscape. Additionally, they can provide food and protection for wildlife.

Our world is drying up. Today's global desertification crisis affects more than 165 countries. Drought, climate change, biodiversity erosion, intensive farming and poor water management are behind the crisis.

This situation has a dramatic impact on our common environmental heritage and is a threat to global peace and sustainable development.

Desertification and drought increase water scarcity, at a time when two billion peoplestill do not have access to safe drinking water – and over three billion may have to confront a similar situation by 2050. The world’s most vulnerable communities cannot fulfil essential water needs, sometimes causing them to migrate from lands that have become dry and barren.

According to the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, 135 million people are likely to migrate worldwide by 2030 as a result of the deterioration of lands. These migrations and deprivations are in turn a source of conflict and instability, demonstrating that desertification is a crucial challenge to peace.

Today, on World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, we launch an urgent call: we all must take immediate action against desertification. It is our responsibility towards future generations. Together, let's grow a sustainable future by respecting our lands and preserving their abundance and beauty. We can and we must.

  • This completed sheet demonstrates Leonardo’s attempt at composing treatises for publication. The text discusses the active role of rivers in the erosion that continuously transforms their courses and the physical appearance of valleys and mountains.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You might notice that the drawings of mountains on the right-hand page are reminiscent of the dynamic landscape in the background of his stunning work, ‘The Virgin and Child with St Anne’, reminding us that Leonardo’s direct study of nature also informed his artistic pieces.

  • Kombucha is very popular these days but has an approximate pH of 2.5-3.2. To compare, soft drinks have a pH of approximately 2.3-2.9. Tooth enamel will start to erode at a pH below 5.5.
Kombucha has been hailed as good for gut health (among other things) and that may be true, but is another example of linear, rather than holistic thinking. Most think “good for gut health, therefore good for me”. But a key question in any health decision is “what else is this seemingly healthy choice doing to the rest of my body?”. It could be argued that if a drink has the ability to erode away the hardest substance in the body (tooth enamel is approximately 10x harder than bone), then to call it truly “healthy” is debatable. I would be looking to restore gut health in other ways without the collateral damage of tooth erosion which can result in pain, sensitivity and weakening of teeth. From a dental standpoint, this is definitely a very ‘occasional’ drink, as much as I like them. Swipe to see some pictures of advanced tooth erosion 👨‍⚕️ ✌️
