  • For most of my life, I felt broken because being in the world was just too much.

Then I discovered a book called The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine Aron. It completely changed my life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Aron explains how sensitivity is a normal trait found in 15 to 20% of the human population. It has also been found in over 100 other species.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Having a sensitive minority within a species is an evolutionary advantage. Our sensitive ancestors are part of the reason why we're all here today.

Sensitivity as scientists define it is also related to mediumship, empathy, and other forms of psychic phenomena. If you're sensitive to physical factors, try dialing down the volume on them if you can and see what you can detect with your subtle senses!

But sensitivity is undervalued, or even rejected, in certain cultural contexts. So some of us--myself included--have inherited emotional baggage around the trait from our recent ancestors.

  • What’s better than a trip out of the city to Lake Tahoe. 
A magical place that combines the water, the mountains, and the dessert. 
You can make it quick and utilize the weekend and a couple days of vacation to make it happen and be able to see enough. 
There is so many truly, magical spots that you can enjoy the views even if you don’t snowboard. 
Now off to a self-care explorative day in #nyc.

  • As kids when we start something new, we understand the concept of training until we get it right. We accept support and help from those who’ve been there before us, and for the most part we enjoy the learning process until we master the new skills required to thrive. .
.
We fall, and get back up again. We forgive our failures and keep going until we make it work, and if we’re persistent and don’t give up, success is pretty much guaranteed. .
.
So why as adults do we expect to get everything right the first time around? Why do we go at it alone, and don’t ask for support? Why do we beat ourselves up when we fall? Is that productive to where you want to be? .
.
You can and will fail along the road to becoming the best version of your stepmom self. Accept failure as part of the process, learn and grow until you achieve the level of mastery you desire. .
.
Practice lots of forgiveness and self-compassion along the way. You’ve never done this before, you won’t get it perfect and you don’t have to... that’s not the point. You can be an example of failing forward to your children. .

  • TIPS FOR THE EMOTIONAL SPONGE:

When listening to someone else’s troubles, instead of channeling empathy which associates you into the other person’s story, channel compassion which instead allows you to hold a state of love WITHOUT getting caught up in their story.

If you find yourself making pictures of what they’re saying, shrink them down, turn the movie into a still image and make it black and white. Put a border around it and notice how different that feels now.

Use sustainably sourced sage or palo santo to clear your personal energy field as well as the energy of your living space.

If you notice that your thoughts are being affected by the negative emotions of others, recognise and affirm that they are not your own and send them back from where they came. Use positive affirmations to regain your state.

This week we focus on self trust which begins with gaining awareness of what you are experiencing in the first place. Today, I want you to do this quick meditation exercise 2Xs.

The first time you do this, do the meditation with your eyes open, watching the video. No judgment or comparison of what you experience.
.
The second time you do the meditation, close your eyes & just listen. Again, no judgment or comparison of what you experience.
.
Each time, take a moment to write down what you notice during your experience. Make note of the senses that were evoked & the knowing that came as a result.
.
This will help you tune into your specific energy & how you connect to what you experience. Do you remember what happened? What you emotionally felt? Why you feel those things? What you saw, tasted, heard, or touched? The more familiar you become with your own energy, the easier it is to build self trust & gain confidence in knowing.

  • I was thinking about what pride is to me. 🌻Deeply thinking about🧠. Feeling it. Tasting it. Wondering where I feel it, exactly. 🙃 It’s getting photos of my brother reading in corners of rooms, cause that is just where he is most comfortable. 📚 It’s hearing my Research Assistant introduce himself as a Researcher 🌀🧠. 2020 got me emotional. Humbled. My baby brother hears me in green. And I hear @mlb_breezy in purple. 🧬🌙 almost. Ready.

  • Narcissists are some of the most seemingly charming people you could ever meet. Once you to get to know them you’ll discover they are manipulative, selfish, and uncaring. They will leave you doubting yourself and make you feel drained. Those of you who are compassionate and see the diamond in the rough are even more likely to start to build relationships with these types of people. If you feel you’re in a relationship with one of these people, create distance right away.

1 💜 DO communicate with the universe. although Mercury has a strong effect on messaging between people & technology, it doesn’t for how we speak with the divine. ask Spirit/Self what to pay attention to during this time, and for guidance, patience, and acceptance of the setbacks that’ll ultimately help you grow. trust, the answer will come through clearly!

2 💜 DON’T be afraid to show your emotions. i’m also a Pisces in Mercury, so my default settings (sun) AND communication style (mercury) are both aligned with Pisces!! what i can tell you is: crying is a language; it’s meditation; it’s therapy. releasing tears of joy, anger, and sadness arent meant to humiliate you, but to liberate yourself and others from the confines of your emotionally repressive conditioning. when the dam breaks, let it flow! the only way tears could hold you back is if YOU hold THEM back.

3 💜 DO embrace the rains of life. whether it’s a passing shower or a full on thunderstorm, every situation you face during this Mercury Rx requires thoughtfulness and consideration - “if this situation is keeping me from pursuing my plans, then what am i meant to learn by being held up here?” honor the moments that seem like they were sent to frustrate you.

4 💜 DON’T try to rush things. think of this time as a big fat reminder to go back in the house bc you forgot something. pretend like everything requires ONE MORE step that you’re missing, even if you feel ready. pause. breathe. recount what’s been done and what is still needed for completion. the universe often puts an extra item on your list when Mercury goes retrograde, and since a water sign is hosting, that means leaning back and letting things move at their own pace is the best approach.

It makes you a little more okay the next time, because you’ve been there before, but it also helps you relate to others and help them be okay. Emotions, and chapters of your life, come and go in waves. If you feel like you’re drowning, just wait a minute. The wave will recede.

  • In light of Caroline Flack taking her own life yesterday at a time in her life when she was feeling lonely, full of anxiety and depression, I wanted to start a discussion around how open you feel you can be with other people and if you feel you can express yourselves fully and if not, what stops you? 
I get that showing vulnerability in front of people isn’t easy especially on social media with trolls and online bully’s, but I invite you to be open with me if you haven’t, or even if you have, got anyone else to turn to and tell me your story if you feel called to. No judgement here, just love, encouragement and understanding. 
This is my story. 
On Caroline’s post she says, ‘and when I actually reached out to someone, they said I was draining’. Those words cut very deep for me as a good friend said the same thing to me a couple of years ago and it hurt like hell. Made me feel worthless and confused and created beliefs in my mind that reaching out for help causes pain and that I’m a burden, so I suffered by myself fixing my happy mask in place at the beginning of each day. 
This went on for quite a while. 
Then one day, while I was still working in corporate, I was sitting on my sofa in my flat when I was supposed to be at work just crying my eyes out and unable to move and I remembering thinking ‘this isn’t normal, I need help’. So when my brother Dan messaged me asking how I was, instead of saying ‘Fine’ like I always did, I gathered up the courage to say, ‘You know what Brother, I’m not ok’ and to say that was a huge turning point for me would be an understatement! I always wonder what if I hadn’t said anything, what if I just kept quiet and suffered, what would my life look like today if my brother hadn’t scooped me up and showed me nothing but love, support and guidance. 
The point of my story is this: 
Loneliness is real. Anxiety is real. Depression is Real. Thousands if not millions of us are all striving for connection, love and to feel safe.

I’m a fan of doing what you want to do.
✨
I’ve noticed again and again that I’m much happier and my efforts consequently succeed more, when I listen to myself and put my energy into the things I want to do over what’s popular or profitable in the short term.
✨
A quick disclaimer here to acknowledge that the advice to “do what you want to do” doesn’t reign in all situations. If you’re a parent, you obviously can’t just drop everything to follow your bliss all the time. The desire to do your thing needs to be balanced with the needs of others, particularly those who are dependent on you.
✨
However, when it comes to your business or career, I believe that when we do the sort of work that lights us up, we end up being happier and that benefits everybody. ✨
Put simply, when you’re enjoying yourself, you’re more likely to do great work, keep at it, and improve, giving things time to take shape and grow. With blogging, in particular, it takes time to find your voice and grow an audience.

It’s just that you don’t want to feel like you’re constantly responding to other people’s needs and ignoring your own. ✨
Feeling like you’re always in reaction mode, pushing your desires down to adhere to other people’s expectations…those are the things that create resentment.
✨
What is it that you want to do? If everything is possible and there are NO OBSTACLES...

  • I’ve had sooooooooo many of you in my DM’s speaking about that 2020 vision 👀. You’ve started to see people show you who they really are and just think, the year is young! This will be a recurring theme throughout the year. Your empath abilities will get more......concise and stronger. There’s no way to stop it, I know some of the revelations absolutely suck. It is what is is, goes the saying. I think many of us are frustrated about a common irritant to anyone, but especially empaths. The LYING 🤥 😩🤦🏾‍♀️. What part of I can tell, see, sense when someone is lying to me do ya not get?! Sometimes you’ve gotta pull cards and put folks on notice. The collective is on to you! Do you find your friends and family often confide their problems in you?

And sometimes do total strangers share their deepest secrets with you - whether or not you asked them to share?

And are you sensitive to energy to the point where being in crowds, around loud noises or in stressful environments is very exhausting to you?

If you said yes to the above I believe it's because you are a Healer!

Because your family, your friends, and even total strangers already know on an energetic level that you're a Healer. That's why they feel safe sharing their problems with you!

But if you haven't learned to develop your sensitivity to energy and you haven't learned how to set up safe energetic boundaries, this may be very depleting and exhausting for you.

There are a few POWERFUL tools that I love sharing with my clients to show them how easy it is to begin stepping into your power as an empath.

And priority number one is to set up safe energetic boundaries.

  • Being an #empath is not always easy. Although certainly it has its rewards and most of us wouldn’t have it any other way, since for every bad emotion we may feel, we also feel equally if not more high vibrational emotions just as strong. The ups and downs of life require us to be strong, resilient, but also gently and kind to appreciate the fragility of life. While going through these emotions and motions may feel like a war, know that you’re a soldier, my beautiful warrior, more powerful than you may ever think. 💖💖💖

  • In evangelical christianity we were taught much of our value/worth is measured by who god brings to us as a spouse.  There’s a lot of language around the man being the spiritual leader (which means a woman can not be as wise, or spiritual even though she is capable of birthing life). The stories of how they met are tied to god bringing them together as part of his will/plan. .
.
First, I want none of that. Ever. I want partnership and the freedom to lean on them and vice versa without there being an expectation that one of us is the “head of the household” which will always demean one person. .
.
Second, I never hear the updated versions of god bringing them together....after their divorces. Did god decide “I don’t want them together anymore.” These are the people who for decades constantly asked why I (& others) aren’t  married.  This was not a compliment.  This was them being uncomfortable with someone not choosing the same lifestyle they had.  So, just a few pointers:

Some single people, are single because they enjoy being alone more than being with others.
.
.
Some single people had rough upbringings, & they feel safer being alone.
.
.
Some single people are closeted, and have not figured out how to respond to their sexuality.
.
.
Some single people are recovering from a lot of trauma and don’t have room for another.
.
.
Some single people are single because they love the freedom of only being responsible for themselves. .
.
A lot of single people aren’t sure why they’re single. But, they are sure that being asked that question needs to stop, because their marital status is not an indicator of their value.
