  • Think I spent about 40 min on this while listening to @djsashaofficial's Refracted album tonight. So good. Tried to paint over rather than undo. Wanted to try and stick to one layer, but I also wanted to break out a few process shots, so I broke those out onto a couple of additional layers.

  • Here it is, the most recent concepts of the bird beasts!
(Swipe for details)

The one I posted earlier was the most recent before this one; that one, I had gone with the face of a potoo bird, because to me, it looked scary because it was relatively human-like in terms of facial structure. Things like that creep me out! But I wasn’t getting the look I wanted with that (it’s not compatible with my style yet I guess) and I was unhappy with the body.
The other day, I was looking at dinosaurs (I like dinosaurs a lot😂) and came across a silhouette of an azdharchid! (You can see this dinosaur in the reference images). I saw that and I was like “that looks pretty scary actually”, and then I realized it had a lot of what I was looking for in this bird beast’s design!
The original design of the bird beasts are not that scary. They’re like big horned griffins. I wasn’t satisfied with that, and needed a design that I genuinely felt was a little scary. Plus, I need Benny to be scared of them too.
So for this, I took that azdharchid’s silhouette, and worked off of that! (To the right you can see I tried to keep the human-faced potoo aspects in, but I don’t think it’ll work out). And then I added in things I personally thought were scary (which this dinosaur had a lot of anatomically, already) such as disproportionate body parts, long limbs, a vaguely human-like structure, straight light and dark patterns on top of each other. (I know that last ones kinda weird but I find those a bit freaky😂) And there you go, I came out with this thing! So for now, this is the beast’s design. They are like giraffes if they were carnivorous😂

I added in lots of things from other animals, but I will talk about that more in the next post.
This was done for my portfolio for character/creature design, but I may expand on it if this design changes again.

  • “Olovsson is part of a committee that’s reviewing the central bank law, which proposed last year to make it mandatory for banks that provide checking accounts and have more than 70 billion kronor ($7.6 billion) in deposits from the Swedish public to offer cash withdrawals and handle daily receipts.
.
.
The legislation is a response to Sweden becoming one of the most cashless societies in the world, with bank branches not offering money withdrawals and stores not accepting cash. Some people are finding it difficult to cope without access to mobile phones or bank cards. There are also fears around what would happen if the digital payments systems suddenly crashed.”
