  • Pascal 🐶 and Mikayla here to spit TRUTHS about nausea and vomiting during pregnancy 👏🏻💪🏻—- sorry if you’re eating while reading this and you have a sensitive tummy 🙊
•
But hey! Did you know that 70-80% of women experience SOME TYPE of morning sickness or excessive nausea/vomiting during pregnancy?? 🧐That is A LOT of our Mamas 🙌🏻
•
SOME have something even more intense called *hyperemesis gravidarum* —- comment below if you have heard of this!!⤵️ OR maybe you experienced it yourself! •
Anyway— this diagnosis is described as intense levels of nausea/vomiting, significant weight loss, AND electrolyte imbalances—- aka NO BUENO! 🙅🏼‍♀️Mamas need to be extra aware of their intake especially if the majority is coming up and out again 🙊...
•
Mamas Maternal Health CANNOT solve this problem. We CANNOT make morning sickness vanish into thin air. •
BUT we CAN help you create an eating pattern that helps you meet your CRUCIAL nutrient needs through the struggle...🥬🍉🥖🍳
•
Why are your nutrient needs so important? BECAUSE that beautiful baby developing inside you!🥰😍
•
It is ALWAYS important to be aware of nutrient needs during pregnancy—- but it is even MORE important to ensure you take in your necessary intake— even when (🤮) is in the mix! •
If YOU are experiencing or experienced nausea/vomiting during your pregnancy comment below! How did you get through it?? 👂🏻 ⤵️⤵️

#NutritipCD

  • I am now 8 months postpartum and I am doing nothing different than what I was doing when I was 38 weeks.

I worked out 5-6 days a week for 30 minutes. That’s it!

I’m curious, did you workout while you were pregnant?
During pregnancy,
I didn’t workout to burn calories.

I didn’t workout to get abs.

I didn’t workout to make that thigh gap smaller.

I worked out to have more energy!

I worked out to help with the aches and pains.

I worked out to improve my mood.

To help me sleep better (pregnancy insomnia is a thing)

To help prevent any heart disease and gestational diabetes!

To keep up the habit!

It doesn’t have to be anything intense! It just has to be something!

  • 🖐 if you get the munchies in the evenings.
Instead of reaching for the salty potato chips show yourself some love and try sliced cucumbers with a squeeze of lemon. Cucumbers and lemon are both naturally hydrating and detoxing. Not to mention this combo is refreshing so you will be less likely to want a less healthy snack. 😋

I was speaking with a family member today whose daughter is preparing for a fairly intense endurance athletic competition, giving guidance on her eating habits and pre-workout meals etc...I may not be an "athlete" 😉😂 but I can still help with nutrition plans for those of you who are!! How you fuel your body is UNBELIEVABLY important for athletic performance #foodforthought 🏋️‍♀️🏊‍♂️🏃‍♀️💪

  • HONEY HAS BEEN WIDELY ACKNOWLEDGED AS FOOD AND MEDICINE BY ALL GENERATIONS, ETHNICITIES, AND CULTURES, BOTH ANCIENT AND MODERN.
FOR MANY YEARS, HONEY HAS BEEN USED BY INDIVIDUALS TO TREAT AND HEAL VARIETY OF ILLNESSES.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE MOST WELL-RESEARCHED BENEFITS OF HONEY FOR ADULTS .
Healing Properties of Honey 🍯

Much of the medicinal properties of honey are because of the high sugar concentration (fructose, glucose, and other 25 different oligosaccharides) the subsequent osmotic effect, acidity, and low PH.
Honey includes numerous amounts of compounds which are vital biological bioactive complexes, such as flavonoids and other polyphenols which may function as antioxidants (the darker the honey the more antioxidants it typically contains).
.
Honey & Heart Diseases ❤️ Honey is rich in phenolic compounds, such as quercetin, caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), acacetin, kaempferol, and galangin which have major effects in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and the reduction of the risk of coronary heart disease.
.
 Honey & Diabetes
Honey can be used as an adjunct to diabetes therapy to achieve better glycemic control, improve metabolic derangements, and mitigate oxidative stress-linked diabetic complications
.
Honey & Red Blood Cells (RBCS) 💉

Honey constrains Red Blood Cells oxidative damage most probably due to its integration into the cell membrane and the ability to enter and influence at the cytosol. Honey has appropriate antioxidants that control biological activities, protect and increase Red Blood Cells functions. .
.

  • Went on a frozen custard date in the middle of the day with a friend today and it was amazeeeee🍦
-
I had breakfast, lunch, and I’m still planning on eating dinner when I get home from the gym. Just because you “treat” yourself doesn’t mean you should restrict yourself at another point in the day. Your body still needs fuel.
—
I didn’t know if I wanted to go to the gym today but after our frozen custard date I was feeling energized so I ended up going and I HIT ANOTHER 8 REP DEADLIFT PR!!!! 💪🏽
205lbs for 8 today🤘🏽
—
Let’s allow our food to feel ENERGIZED and FUELED instead of going to the gym to “work it off” 😊

  • Our society endorses an extremely unrealistic view of how a person’s body *should* look and supposed correlation of physical appearance health.⁣
⁣
“Thinner is better” Nope “Bigger is bad”. Nope. Unless you know someone’s medical history, genetics, socioeconomic status, living environment, food security, and all of the other factors that play a role in health, you cannot not make any assumptions about a person’s individual health. ⁣
⁣
Unfortunately the depiction of a thin ideal has only gotten worse since diet culture has started using the guise of “wellness” and “health” to promote a “societal acceptable body”. In reality the appearance of someone’s body and their health have no correlation and we need to continue to speak out against this flawed narrative, otherwise diet culture will continue to claim victory in the lives of people and deter them from their true potential for well-being.

  • I really believe that most people have the best intentions when they attempting to make changes toward improving their health. Building “healthy habits” is probably the #1 goal I hear from the people I talk to. (Although it’s also very common for people to believe that “healthy habits” = weight loss guaranteed, which is certainly not always the case or I goal I encourage, but that’s a post for another day).
.
Wellness culture has given us a pretty warped idea of what “healthy habits” look like:
.
“Cut out bread, pasta, and potatoes”
.
“Don’t eat anything made with white flour or white sugar”
.
“Intense exercise is the only kind that really counts”.
.
Not only does wellness culture put up some pretty hard and fast rules about what we should and should not do to support our health, it also encourages the thinking that these rules need to be followed 100% of the time.
.
But health and health-promoting habits are not all or nothing. Habits by definition are a “regular tendency or practice” and should absolutely be flexible. They should also be realistic, internally motivated, and pleasurable - at least most of the time!
.
If your “healthy habits” are creating more stress, causing feelings of shame or not leaving room for self-compassion, I would argue that are actually externally-motivated rules, and they are actually not health-promoting at all.
.
The good news is that, at least when it comes to food, #rulesaremeanttobebroken
.
And if you need support breaking up with your #foodrules, consider working with a #nondiet dietitian (yes, I know I’m biased!) ✌️

  • do you eat the same thing for breakfast every day? or find yourself feeling munchy every afternoon? consider switching up your breakfast routine. i used to eat the same fat free yogurt and berries every single morning for years. convenient, yes. satisfying, no. i was counting down the seconds until lunch and trying to ignore hunger pangs throughout much of the morning. now i switch up my flavors/toppings and add a little more bulk to my breakfasts to sustain me longer and keep things interesting. // yogurt bowl with @chobani passionfruit greek yogurt, blueberries, pomegranate, and @oatmygoodness granola #yogurtbowl #passionfruit #myOMG

  • give peas a chance ✌🏼i used to HATE peas when i was little, along with most other green vegetables (although peas are technically a LEGUME like chickpeas). i still don’t love them plain, but i think they’re great mixed into dishes like these green pea falafels. full of fiber, plant protein, and micronutrients like vitamin A and vitamin K. what foods did you used to hate that you like now as an adult? 🌱// green pea falafels, whole wheat couscous, and a kale cucumber salad with tahini dressing #peas #falafels #givepeasachance

  • Fun fact: the average person passes gas 20-25 times a day. Having too much gas is more rare than common.

As your digestive tract does it's thing with food, gas is produced. In fact, it could be a sign that you've got healthy and thriving colonies of gut bacteria. Eating foods that feed your bacteria will cause gas, but it also keeps your digestive tract healthy. Having no gas isn't a wise goal - you could be starving your gut bacteria.

The types of foods you eat can also influence the odor of your gas. Things like cruciferous vegetables will lead to a sulfur-like smell, and if you eat onions... well it will probably smell like onions. We've all been there 😉.
.
That's not a bad thing though! Eating a variety of foods = diversified and healthy gut bacteria = better digestive function. This is the thing that many elimination protocols fail to provide.

And while we are talking about it, your stomach will naturally change shape throughout the day as food moves through your digestive tract! Your abdomen also has many vital organs it's holding and protecting. A "flat stomach" is airbrushed - it's not reality.

I hope this adds perspective to normal digestive function!
