🔥 50 Days Already! 🔥
📚So today I actually went back couple lessons in the Forkify project from The Complete JavaScript course because I didn’t understand some things and the API website was down for like 2 days so I decided to go back ✌🏼
I’ve built the Search Model which is a Search class that has a method called getResults that takes care of calling the API with the query passed in and returns the data with the 30 recipes back based on the query. I also finished building the Search Controller which listens for the submit on the form and calls a function called controlSearch where it check the query and creates a new Search Object with that query and stores it in the state object.
—
I also read some interesting Self-taught developer stories on Medium and I think I need to put in more work because I think i’m still leaving so much on the table but that will come when I start building up a daily routine.
—
Tomorrow I will finish building the Search View and the Ajax loading spinner and hopefully implement the Search results pagination.
—
I will also post a review of the Vortex RGB Race 3 Keyboard next week so stay tuned for that! 😊

Keep it real! 👊🏼
Peace! 😇

  • I’ve been enjoying enhancing my symbolic sight through tarot lately. Lillies show up in the deck on the Magician, Temperance, and Ace of Pentacle cards as a symbol of growth, development, renewal, and the freedom to be yourself. And here they are now, in bloom before my very eyes as the Spring Equinox has just graced us with more light. I see you, Spirit. 👁🌿✨

Day 66/100 🔥😊 #100daysofcode⁣
⁣
📍Single Movie View Finished 😅⁣
⁣
▪️ A big step forward today... It took me some hours to get the slider for the Cast of the Movie done, but I managed to do it. Got stuck a lot, but if we don't give up easily, we can always make it work ✌🏼⁣
⁣
▪️ When there are no recommendations of movies based on the movie you're seeing, I also display a nice illustration with a message now. You can also click on the Genres when you are seeing the Movie view, and it will take you to the respective category. 🔥⁣
⁣
📍Finally, I fetched the Trailer for the Movie, and when available, a button saying 'Trailer' will be shown and when you click it a popup will open with the video playing.⁣
⁣
➡️ Tomorrow I still need to fix some cases where the API returns Null sometimes for some values, and then do the Single Person View. After this, only responsive is left! 🔥⁣
⁣
I will probably only be able to finish the Project Monday/Tuesday, but let's see who it goes tomorrow 🤔🚀 #buildupdevs⁣

  • In my development plan this year I will focus on the word "perspective". I've always been judgmental, I follow my instincts and they are usually right about people and things.. But 2018 has teached me that are things that we know nothing about, struggles, issues, pain, all sort of things going in everyone's life. I also learned that: ➡️ Something that comes easy to me may not be as easy for others
➡️ Same methods and approaches don't work well with everyone
➡️ Acknowledgement, instead of judgement or reaction, is a powerful way of creating a dialog

That's why I want to be more open to evualate things from different angles and to learn how to shift the judgment in understanding.

What's your development focus for the next months?

  • How did you learn to code? Leave your answer in the comments below.

Just taught my first programming class ever! Woooooo!! I was nervous but I think it went well
_
What’s your learning style? And for my programmers, how did you learn to code? Have you taught programming before?
_
After a lot of debate, and researching options for intros to python, I decided to use code academy intro to python 3. This was the first time the students learned anything about programming, and I wanted them to have a tried and tested hands on experience since this was my first time. Also I figured high school students don’t want to sit and have me lecture their ears off for hours or read from a book, GO FIGURE. Also code academy is completely free. I’m trying to provide them with 100% free resources that they will always be able to utilize even after we have finished. I have never used any online coding tutorials before and I LOVED it. When I learned to code (8 years ago wut) I WISH I had a tool like this!
_
Things I learned teaching my first programming class:
1. Everything will take longer than you expect it to
2. Hands on learning is KEY
3. You will have to explain things in more detail than the online material
4. I would not recommend to anyone who isn’t a complete beginner or really needs a refresher. We started at the absolute basics
5. They were so worried because they didn’t “get it” and I reassured them that it’s NORMAL to feel that way we all did!!! It’s OKAY to be bad, it DOES get better with practice, time and struggle. @lillyseay_ touched on this in her most recent post!
_
Will I use code academy the entire time I am teaching? No, I want to work with real- life STEM applications that are beyond the scope of the program, BUT it is a great way to explain the basics. Code Academy also has intro to data science, machine learning, etc. that I will definitely be utilizing with the students as well
_
I can’t get over how helpful these online resources are for beginners because apparently I was living in the dinosaur age aka PhD life 😂 I hope the students were excited as I was, they gave me good feedback so 🤞🏼
