  • Today would have been my first fur-baby’s 20th birthday. As if we’re often blessed to have them with us for that many years to begin with, I know. She was my first pet as an adult, and was an integral part of my family from the time she was 7 months to 16 years old. She was my kids’ “older sister”, and she was nothing short of amazing.

Knowing it’s Kylee’s birthday today combined with receiving some news about someone dear to my heart makes today extra bittersweet. This year already feels like it’s been a huge nonstop season of loss, so on Kylee’s birthday I choose to remember loved ones with a smile. It might be a little bit of a crooked Mona Lisa smile, but that’s okay too. ❤️

Loss is as much a part of life as all of the triumphs and wonderful things of the world. It’s something I hope I don’t ever truly get used to, but sometimes I feel like I already am. That doesn’t stop the waves from crashing in now and then though.
•
The other thing I’ve learned about loss is that there’s always a gain. The people and pets that we are lucky enough to cross paths with on this road of life leave a lasting impact. Big or small, I hope you allow those impacts and memories to serve you well through the rest of your life.

  • „At the end of the day, you are solely responsible for your success and your failure. And the sooner you realize that, you accept that, and integrate that into your work ethic, you will start being successful. As long as you blame others for the reason you aren't where you want to be, you will always be a failure.“ -Erin Cummings

  • 💓Super stoked about this new read. Haven’t even opened it yet, but I’m very curious about what makes these sites so magical and mystical. Did the sites themselves - the plants, animals, people already living there - attract a certain type of person, event, energy which then occurred, or did the randomly placed events themselves make an everyday, lackluster place a site of everlasting, otherworldly magnificence? A chicken or the egg type of question. Is magic made from nothing or does it already exist? How much should we know about Nature? Should we know all of God’s secrets?
...
💓Got me thinking about my own interests in “passive magic” so to speak - using the energies and healing properties of plants for an intended purpose, and how I’m much more attracted to the natural energies of plants themselves than I am in adding my own personal power into a plant through a ritual of my own making. It’s not that I’m scared or that I think I’ll do something wrong - it’s more of a combination of my morals - wondering if it’s right to yield my own power over something that was created before me and holds so much more intrinsic power than I ever could, and my laid-back attitude of “why fix it if it’s not broken”...If lavender holds the power to calm, and garlic holds the power to kill off disease, isn’t that magic in and of itself? Should natural magic and the balance of nature be tampered with by mere humans?
...
💓I’m so interested in getting down to the basics of plant power. Seeing the plant purely for what it was specifically, divinely, put on this Earth to do, without adding anything more at all. God is perfection, and Nature is the tangible catalyst for this perfection. Let it be. For now at least...

...
🌿Side note: As interest in this subject increases, so too will the people who engage in “Nature Appropriation” - opportunistically using plants for ones selfish purposes without considering the impact on the larger picture, and without giving something in return. Already starting to see this exploitation (under the guise of being harmless because it’s “natural”) with the amount of unsustainable foraging going on. Mindless behaviors.
