  • From @rainforestalliance 🚨Amazon S.O.S. 🚨
Many members of our alliance have been asking what actions we are taking in response to the crisis in the Brazilian Amazon (which is now spreading into Bolivia and a region of the Peruvian Amazon where our longstanding partner communities live; 🔥 knows no borders). In addition to redirecting 100% of donations made in August via link in bio to frontline groups in the Brazilian Amazon, we are mobilizing our global alliance for a vigorous, multi-faceted crisis response. We’re working with our partners—including multi-national companies, farmers, governments, scientists, and Indigenous and forest communities around the world—to put pressure on the Brazilian government to conserve the Amazon for the good of people and nature. 🌎That means, first and foremost, defending it against illegal logging, destructive slash-and-burn agriculture, and other existential threats.
In addition, we’re harnessing international concern over the fires to intensify our ongoing advisory work with companies that source commodities from Brazil; leveraging our position as respected expert-advocates to advance responsive policy and regulation within the European Union to influence the Brazilian government; and urging business leaders around the world to embrace the Accountability Framework initiative, which provides guidance and benchmarks for sustainable supply-chain transformation. 💚 Work is love made visible, and we have infinite love for the Amazon. 🌳

  • Sunset along the Clyde river in Glasgow last night.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I arrived in Glasgow a few days ago by train after taking both the train and the bus on my journey from Malmö. It reminded me of the time I spent backpacking and of how much more you appreciate both the journey and the destination when you travel in this way. And as the best bonus you could receive you keep your carbon emissions significantly lower than if you were to fly. This is one way we, who have these opportunities afforded to us, can ensure that we keep our carbon footprint at a minimum even when we travel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now my journey continues here in Glasgow as I begin my master's studies in Climate Justice. When I tell people this is what I will study they applaud me and many ask what it will entail. Climate Justice is a term used for framing the climate and ecological crisis as an ethical and political issue. The programme will explore topics such as human rights, renewable energy technologies, gender issues, public health, resource management among other things. Climate justice, to me, is an immensely important concept and one which needs to be understood and included in all the work that is done to mitigate the climate and ecological crisis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The lungs of the Earth are burning, and it is a man-made disaster. The fires have been deliberately set to profit the agro-business and mining industry who are intent to deforest the land and displace indigenous populations in order to expand their business interests. They are supported by an extremist Brazilian government, whose president and top ministers either facilitate or allow the destruction of the forest and the suppression of indigenous peoples protesting the destruction of their homes. In fact, locals have been murdered in an attempt to silence their voices.
.
If the horror inflicted on local populations in the Amazon was not enough, the current destruction of the rainforest has direct global consequences for all our survival:
- Amazonia and its trees are a significant source for oxygen, and major sink for absorbing carbon dioxide.
- The Amazon region has often been called “the Green Ocean” because evapotranspiration from vegetation provides water vapor to the global atmosphere.
- It is the home to a massive array of bio-diversity.
- Many scientists believe that the Amazon is an untapped region of potential medical cures. According to WWF, “less than half of 1% of flowering plant species have been studied in detail for their medicinal potential.”
.
WHAT CAN YOU DO:
- the most important actions are political and collective. Join a party or campaign group that makes saving the Amazon and it’s indigenous population a priority.
- Give your vote to leaders who care about our climate crisis and are not afraid to take on greedy business interests.
- Donate to organisations that support the forest and its biodiversity like @amazonwatch @amazonfrontlines @wwf @greenpeace @intlrivers and @friends_earth
- Eat seasonal and locally produced foods. Always check where you food comes from and if you do buy something from Brazil make sure that is is certified by groups like @rainforestalliance

  • Part two of my vegan baking series 🍰🌿 Here are some vegan alternatives for milk and butter 🥛For milk it is really easy, you can just use every plant based milk you like! Depending on the chosen milk you will have a slightly different taste, my favourites are soy milk and oat milk ☺️ Butter is also easy to replace: use margarine instead! But take a look at the ingredients first, not every margarine is vegan❗Did you bake any vegan desserts or cake before?

  • 🙏🏽🙏🏿🙏🙏🏻🙏🏽 A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has donated, shared, amplified, and reached out to express anguish about the Amazon fires, concern for the communities who call it home, and love for our wondrous planet. 😭🌎
In less than 2 days, we have raised $310,670 here on IG for 5 Brazilian organizations on the front lines of the fight to protect the Amazon and the human rights of the Indigenous people who live there 🙌🏽 (see previous post). The response has been both overwhelming (pardon us for taking longer than usual to respond to requests and queries) and deeply encouraging.
✨ It feels like so many people are awakening to our interdependence with nature; to the integrity and beauty of Indigenous land stewardship; and to how harrowing our climate future will be if we lose even another 20% of this majestic rainforest. 🌳
Some of you have asked: are the fires still burning? The answer, unfortunately, is YES—the Amazon is in fact burning much of the time. What we are seeing in Brazil is really a spike in a terrible ongoing crisis that we have been fighting for years.
The Amazon is huge beyond our imagining: it takes 5 hours fly over it in an airline jet. So it makes sense that protecting it will require massive global collaboration and sustained investment over time. If there is one thing we can ask of all of you who have joined us recently, it is this: stay with us on this journey of wildly unreasonable hope. WE are our most powerful weapon in this war between nihilism and possibility, and we can accomplish miracles together if we truly commit to transforming both our world and ourselves.💚 (continued in comment)

  • Baking vegan cakes, muffins, cookies and all the other tasty stuff is so easy 😄 Today I want to show you some options for egg substitutes 🥚🥚🥚 Please note that this are individual options - don't throw all of them together 😂
Some substitutes work better than others with different recipes, just try it! Sometimes I don't want to have a banana taste for example, then I take another option ☺️ What is your favourite vegan dessert?
