Our understanding of this phenomenon has matured in recent years and we now have better evidence to guide our thought-process and clinical approach for our patients. The paper reviewed this week was published in a medical journal and although nothing in this area is perfect, it is a comprehensive summary of the evidence in this area. If you haven’t visited the literature in this area for a while, or if you see headache and neck pain patients in your office…this is a MUST read!

Flex right leg about 90° at hip and keep right foot on table/floor. Apply pressure downward with both hands (arrows). Then while trying to abduct/push knee away -with right leg contract your hip abductors(Glute area). Hold for a few seconds then relax and then pull knee downward again to stretch further. Do this 3 to 5 times.

Yea... realistically you torqued your knee or ankle or are overusing your calves.  Chiropractic adjustments can help align the low back, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. What is lower cross syndrome and how important is posture? Posture in isolation can be overly criminalized as it may have no correlation with pain or dysfunction in healthy populations... However, posture in combination with movement dysfunction often offers insight on what the body is doing and how it has adapted to holding prolonged positions. Lower cross syndrome is the manifestation of 'tight' low back and hip flexor muscles in combination with 'weak' core and hamstring muscles. So what is the next step? We strengthen whats weak and re-train what is tight.

➡️ Banded Glute Bridges - We start with this exercise to start working on the posterior chain, namely the hip extensor muscles such as the glutes and hamstrings. This exercise is great because you also train your body to hold a neutral spine while in hip extension.

➡️ Quads massage - here we foam roll out one of your hip flexors, the rectus femoris. This will help us move better during the other exercises
.
➡️ Stale Bugs - These are used to strengthen the core muscles. Trust me when I say these are harder than they look.

➡️ Psoas March - this exercise helps us 're-train' our other hip flexor muscle - the psoas muscle.

➡️ Hamstring Sliders - Finally, we work on strengthening the hamstrings muscle. Many may find their hamstrings will cramp during this exercise, so take it easy at the beginning, day by day this cramping sensation will  go away. .

  • I have an affinity for this foot type.  Especially when I see the 1% 😉. It is often overlooked, it is complex, and when managed appropriately is a game changer. And I am so excited to work with this guy

We talk about this extensively in our Top Down Bottom Up course because if treated incorrectly can cause problems as we unfortunately are seeing here

First, there is a difference between forefoot SUPINATUS (more common soft tissue problem that results from overpronation) and forefoot VARUS (more rare osseous problem that causes overpronation)
👣
This is a bilateral forefoot varus. Rare foot type when the forefoot is inverted relative to rearfoot due to an osseous problem involving the talus. Now the only way that to get that big toe down is to crank that foot into pronation
👣
I do believe we have some soft tissue work to do here, but there are no exercises, not enough glut bridges out there to over come the forces driving that foot into pronation
👣
Have a good orthotic lab handy.  There is a time and a place.  And this is one of the few times my lab will  be getting a phone call

We’re going to bring the ground up to his foot starting at the rearfoot and get him into the appropriate footwear. ****you put an ortho under a supinatus foot 🙈🙈. Yes we will be strengthening the foot, but the exercises will have to be modified to accommodate for the structure
