  • The universe has sent yin my way this week! As well as finding time to practice it (which is a rarity) I’m also teaching it (four times in seven days!) It really is such a beautiful class to attend and to teach. Truly a space where you can fully exhale, relax and invite healing. Longer hold poses allow deep tissue softening and for our fascias to be stretched and nourished. The perfect way to end a stressful day or to round of 2019 before stepping into the energy of the new year ✨

  • I am letting go of all the stress, uncertainty and tears shed in the last year. I am allowing my body and mind to arrive in the present moment. I have found a place I can call home, where I invite friends, watch my children grow up into kind human beings, where I cook meals filled with love and passion, where I wake up in the morning and don't feel scared of what the day brings.
Universe, it was a difficult and very bumpy way you have sent us on. Sometimes I was losing faith, but most of the time I found my trust quickly again. Looking back I can see the signs you were giving us, which in the end brought us to this beautiful place we now call our home. A house is just some bricks and mortar, but it can also be a home. My Heart is settled in this home and I am excited to see what the future brings for the four of us.

Open up to give and receive love.
There is no sun without shade.
Believe in your inner strength.
Shed some tears once in a while.

  • Did you know that as long as you know child’s pose☝️ you can do any type of yoga class? .

Because #yoga isn’t about competition or keeping up. It’s about listening to what your body needs in the moment. Contrary to popular belief it can actually be much more difficult to take time to be still and rest rather than push yourself to keep up. (Taking this concept off of your mat and practicing it in your everyday life can be true too.)

Note: Don’t stress if your hips don’t touch your heels or your forehead doesn’t touch the mat. You can stack your hands, fists, or use a bolster to find more rest in the pose and to make it fit your body, not the other way around. Your teacher will give cues for this as well. 😊

  • Balasana or child's pose - another counter pose for relaxation.

Like I mentioned in my post yesterday, counter poses are great for relaxing the spine and ensuring it's properly aligned. Balasana is a wonderful pose, not just as a countering asana but also as a relaxation asana. It helps slow the heart and the breath, and cool the body down after an intense session. You can keep the knees apart to give more space for your body to sink to the floor.

The stretch I had posted yesterday was a good way to end a session of forward folds. This one is perfect after a series of backward bending asanas. 📷@iamsho_am

  • Day 21: Childs Pose 🙌 This is a nice restorative posture that helps to relax the body and the mind while gently stretching the hips, thighs, ankles and spine 🧘‍♀️ Come to your hands and knees on the mat. Spread your knees as wide as your mat, keeping the tops of your feet on the floor with the big toes touching. Bring your belly to rest between your thighs and your forehead to the floor. There are two possible arm variations. Either stretch your arms in front of you with the palms toward the floor or bring your arms back alongside your thighs with the palms facing upwards. Do whichever feel more comfortable for you. If you've been doing a lot of shoulder work, the second option feels nice 🙂

Spread your knees as wide as your mat, keeping the tops of your feet on the floor with the big toes touching. Bring your belly to rest between your thighs and your forehead to the floor. There are two possible arm variations. Either stretch your arms in front of you with the palms toward the floor or bring your arms back alongside your thighs with the palms facing upwards.   • If you can't SLEEP at night this is for you! It shouldn't take you any longer than 15 minutes. This can be done right before bed to get your body ready for rest. Try this in bed or beside your bed so you can slither silently to sleep. 💤⁣

👆🏽 These 2 movements are done together. Come to a table top position (aka all fours) Inhale COW 🐄 (belly drops and tailbone lifts) exhale CAT 😺 (chin to chest and round through the spine) ⁣

3. Child's pose👶 - From an all fours position bring your big toes to touch behind you, open your knees out wide and sink your hips back towards your heels. Arms can be stretched out in front of you bringing one cheek to the mat for 2min. Turn to the opposite cheek for another 2 min, this is to balance out the stretch in the neck.⁣

4. Dragon 🐲- from a table top position, step your right foot to the outside of your right pinky finger. You may need to shimmy your left knee back a bit to make space for the hips. Try to keep you right knee lined up with the right ankle. Repeat on the other side. 2 min each side (3 if you can)⁣
⁣
5. Happy baby 👼- laying down draw your knees intowards your chest. Grab a hold of the inner or outer edges of your feet (I'm grabbing the outer edges in the photo) open up the knees, pulling down on the feet with your hands. I like to stay here until I'm ready to come out. Use your judgment.⁣

6. Reclined pigeon 🐦- laying down bend your knees. Cross the right ankle over the left knee. You can stay here if this is enough or pick up your left foot and weave your hands through and grab a hold of the back of your left hamstring or if possible your left shin. 3 min each side⁣
⁣
7. Starfish pose⭐🐠- Take this time to take 12 deep breaths! 1 Inhale and exhale counts as 1 complete breath.⁣
⁣
8. Roll onto your side and either fall asleep 😴 or push yourself up and slide into your bed.⁣

  • I was talking to a friend of mine who was debating whether to try yoga. She said “It just seems so simple. You know that child’s pose one? My moko does that when he’s having a bad day.” She and her moko pretty much hit the nail on the head. Child’s pose is a body position that allows you to physically disconnect from the stressors of the world, quiet your mind and bring your focus back in...(read blog: LINK IN BIO)

HOW TO DO IT
1️⃣Assume child’s pose position with engaged arms outreached overhead
2️⃣Engage your lats by drawing your shoulder blade downward, and pressing your arms into the ground
3️⃣Place right hand behind head, keep elbow up

    HOW TO DO IT
    1️⃣Assume child’s pose position with engaged arms outreached overhead
    2️⃣Engage your lats by drawing your shoulder blade downward, and pressing your arms into the ground
    3️⃣Place right hand behind head, keep elbow up

Αυτή η θέση της yoga έχει πολλά πλεονεκτηματα:
1. Βοηθάει στη διάταση του ισχιου, του μηρού αλλά και του αστραγλου.
2. Βοηθάει στην χαλάρωση του σώματος αλλά και του μυαλού
3. Μειώνει το στρες και την κούραση
4. Μπορούμε και ρυθμίζουμε καλύτερα την αναπνοή
5. Και κυρίως ανακουφίζει τους ραχιαιους και πόνους της μέσης!!
Αν δεν ασχολείστε με την yoga ή με κάποιες διατατικες ασκήσεις αφιερώστε  3-5 λεπτά καθημερινώς για να κάνετε αυτή την άσκηση (και με μικρές παραλλαγές) και απολαύστε τα οφέλη!! 🧘‍♀️🙏

  • teaching isn’t preaching. it’s offering. letting loose what i can and then it goes where it wants and to those who want it. i’m never interested in convincing anyone of anything. that wouldnt work anyway. i am interested in showing up for the student who is burning with desire for spiritual knowledge. which is to say: i can recognize myself in you and you can recognize yourself in me until the recognition matures into a revelation and the revelation is the light of absolute knowing that swallows and transforms the darkness of despair and confusion into love. .
