Based on a Daytona modified by Michelotti on commission from Luigi Chinetti, Ferrari importer in the USA, who gave it to his beloved wife. It has a crazy story: it's the first of three NART Daytona Spyders. It all started in 1971 when it was delivered as a standard 365 GTB / 4 Daytona to Dr. Silva through the Chinetti showroom in Greenwich. The car was used sparingly and returned to Chinetti in 1975, presumably for a service.  But instead of selling the car, Luigi sent it together with two other Daytona, to the workshops of Giovanni Michelotti in Turin, to transform it into the angular and very personal Le Mans NART.  It was then given in 1977 as present to Marion, Chinetti's wife. Later then in 1980 it was exposed at the Turin show by Michelotti.

This car began its life as the Jaguar Le Mans D-Type (chassis # XKD513) which ran for two consecutive years in Le Mans. After an accident the remains of the car were sold to Giovanni Michelotti, who created this beautiful body on the original Jaguar chassis, which kept all its original size. The Jaguar Le Mans D-Type Michelotti appeared in 1963 at the Geneva Motor Show. Giovanni Michelotti will personally use the car for some time before selling it.

With design by Giovanni Michelotti, who had sold a very similar design to Triumph for their 1300, the second generation Contessa debuted in September 1964. While considerably longer and heavier, the PD Contessa also had a much more powerful 1,251 cc four-cylinder engine. With a four-speed manual transmission, top speed is 130 km/h (81 mph). A handsome coupé version was presented in April 1965; the coupé benefitted from an upgraded engine with twin carburetors and slightly higher compression and 65 PS (48 kW; 64 hp) from November of the same year. The use of twin headlights does contribute to a mild similarity to the second generation Chevrolet Corvair, and the lack of a front grille because the Contessa and the Corvair are both rear engined and rear cooled (air for the Corvair, water for the Contessa). Early Standard versions did not receive bumper horns and were fitted with single front headlamps with blanks where the second set would have gone. Later on, the Standard (of which very few survive) received the same headlamps and bumpers as the De Luxe, albeit with painted rather than chromed bumpers.

The 1961 Michelotti-Conrero prototype Giulietta "goccia” (“drop”) weighed about kg 750 and its frame was not the last type produced by the Portello Alfa Romeo plants, but the 1957 version, since – in order to build the new body – a Giulietta Sprint Veloce had been undressed. After an appropriate mechanical preparation by Conrero, the engine developed 125 hp at 7400 revs/min, with a maximum torque of 13.2 kgm at 5000 revs/min. The maximum speed reached by this Giulietta was in the order of 222 km/h (recorded at Monza autodrome), despite the fact that the car was only a four speed version.

In the second half of the sixties, when Innocenti was led by Luigi Innocenti son of the founder Ferdinando, production under the BMC (British Motor Corporation) license was proceeding fine but the Lambrate based company had the desire to produce a car entirely designed in Italy.
Nuccio Bertone and Giovanni Michelotti were given the task of preparing projects for a small subcompact, to be proposed in the market segment of 750 cm³ cars, to be placed alongside the now dated “Mini” model. Innocenti went for the Bertone proposal, designed by Marcello Gandini, giving to birth the Innocenti Mini 90/120.

Like other Japanese brands that encountered difficulties to create their design, Hino joined forces with the Italian bodybuilder Michelotti. Based on the Contessa 900, this elegant 2 + 2 coupé was presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1962. It was again shown in New York in the spring of 1963 and then in Tokyo the same year. The left steering wheel was a sign of the strong desire to eventually export this model to europe and the U.S.. The mechanics are borrowed from the basic sedan, but reviewed by the italian Nardi, the 893 cc engine develops 45 hp at 5,500 rpm. A limited production of 1000 copies was planned in Italy but the production cost were prohibitive.  Unfortunately, it remained a one off, but it can be considered as a prototype for the later Contessa 1300. Forgotten for many years, it was found and restored in the early 2000s.

Just before the Geneva Motor Show in March 1968, Giovanni Michelotti was about to organise the presentation of the new Triumph Stag on his stand. But the Standard Triumph directors had a sudden change of mind and decided to put the Stag on the official Triumph stand. This left Michelotti with a vacant space. He had to react quickly, and decided to design a prototype, which he presented as the evolution of the TR5 – the future TR6! Employees, friends and family members burned the midnight oil for 15 days and 15 nights to prepare this prototype called the TR5 Ginevra (Geneva in Italian). Michelotti obtained a TR5 chassis from the factory to build his prototype numbered X760 (prototype) as well as a 2-litre straight 6 engine (not the 2.5 version) fitted with Lucas injection. It had a standard 4-speed + overdrive gearbox.

After the show the Standard Triumph management entrusted the Karmann bodywork company with the task of designing the future TR6. The TR5 Ginevra remains a one-off much to the delight of its present-day owner.

This was the personal daily car of Giovanni Michelotti for some years after construction.

Born in Turin, Italy in the last year of World War I, Virgilio Conrero served as a mechanic in the Regia Aeronautica during the next global conflict. He established the Autotecnica Conrero in 1951 and was one of the most successful Alfa Romeo and Lancia tuners (though often overshadowed by the work of Abarth) and produced a small number of Conrero-Alfas that are prized today for the performance and good looks. His reputation led Standard-Triumph to commission his assistance to produce a four car team for the 1961 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, only one car was produced and that single unit was not finished until 1962. With a tubular spaceframe and aerodynamic bodywork by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Conrero took full advantage of the tuned Sabrina engine – that made a reported 165bhp with a surfeit of torque – to reach almost 150 mph on the M1 motorway in England. As so often happens with the history of Triumph, the Leyland takeover scuttled what could have been a class winning effort at Le Mans in 1962. The car, however, survives and represents another chapter in the Book of What If for British sports cars.

Chassis number ‘S814286’ was built on 25th May 1955 as a left-hand drive XK140 SE Coupé with normal factory coachwork. The Jaguar was delivered new in France via the French distributor, Charles Delecroix, to its first lady owner, Mme Jeanne Gaymard in Paris. It is the 286th left-hand drive coupé built, with body number ‘J4457’. The original colour scheme was cream with two-tone blue interior.

In 1957 the car had an accident that damaged much of the body. As the original body was beyond repair, the XK came under the eye of the famous Italian coachbuilder, Giovanni Michelotti, to be re-bodied to one of his bespoke designs. Michelotti is said to have designed three bodies for XK140s around this time; all three are different, making this car unique. Its high waistline and fastback styling would have been considered avant garde for the 1950s. In the course of the rebuild, the interior, instruments, and other details were all changed to Michelotti’s custom design.

1968 ‘Coco’ Chinetti and commercial artist Bob Peak entrusted Michelotti to build their voluptuous co-designed body on a 275 P chassis, which had previously suffered fire damage at Le Mans. High-speed stability was a key consideration, apparently.
The creation of this 275 P represents an unprecedented collaboration of European and American philosophies.
Originally a 250 P from 1963, the car was converted to a 275 P. In races this car was very successfully with victories in 1963 and 1964. In 1965 the car burned out at St. Jovite. More infos here:

One of the first Italian sports cars to feature an American V8 was the little-known Nardi Silver Ray they built in 1960. Giovani Michelotti designed it and then Nardi built it on a tubular frame with some suspension parts from Alfa Romeo*. However, the most interesting thing was the engine. The Nardi Silver Ray used a Plymouth Golden Commando 413 V8 that delivered 350 HP. For 1960 this was enormous power and the Silver Ray could top 140 mph, which was outstanding. Since it was immensely powerful and fast, Nardi and Michelotti equipped it with four-wheel disc brakes. 👇

This Ferrari was commissioned and named by the King of Arabia’s son, Prince Saoud in honor of his lady of the moment. The Meera has many unusual features for its time including twin air conditioning, electric sunroof, unique instrument binnacle by Michelotti Technica, windscreen wipers on all four sides. An in-dash monitor takes the place of a traditional inside rear view mirror and it has a state of the art sound system built in from new. It also has a unique air exchange system built into the doors and exterior brake ducting. The Michelotti Meera Speciale is also featured in many books. This is a true icon of the oppulent 80’s. This was the last Ferrari built by Michelotti.
