  • Welcome to Modern Maiden Vintage! We recently hit a milestone of 500 followers, and since I definitely don’t know all of you, I thought it was due time to introduce myself!
-
My name is Shawna, and I am the proprietress of this vintage shop! You’ll be seeing my face more often, as I’ve been modelling some of my favourite spring and summer pieces that will be coming to the shop soon!
-
Born and raised in small-town Northern Ontario, I moved to Toronto for school, have been here ever since, and currently live in the Junction. When I’m not digging for vintage, I’m either at my day job as an eLearning developer, enjoying some live music or having some tasty eats somewhere in the city.
-
My hope with Modern Maiden Vintage is to provide a curated collection of affordable, unique vintage pieces that can be worn by every level of vintage lover – by that I mean both folks that integrate select vintage pieces into modern wardrobes, and folks that wear only vintage.
-
Vintage has been a really important part of my journey towards being comfortable in my own body, and developing a personal style that makes me feel beautiful and powerful. That’s a big part of why I wanted to open a shop and share pieces with you all – in the hopes that something I’ve rescued can make you feel like YOU - beautiful and confident. -
There is something very special about wearing a piece that has stood the test of time, and surely has stories to tell and knowledge to share. Not to mention the positive impact we make when we purchase vintage garments from small businesses, and minimize our support of fast-fashion retailers that are so detrimental to the environment.
-
Thank you so much for being here and allowing me to share my love of vintage with you. DM if interested in this dress - it's for sale 😘

  • Strolling into the last half of August.
*
Ha!! I wish!! More like running 🏃🏻‍♀️
*
August and September are two of the busiest months of the year for @toddpei and I, but I honestly feel like I say that about every seasonal shift and every time it’s true...
*
Anyway, I’m thinking about my summer bucket list, and there are so many things left unchecked. I’m really hoping to get to enjoy a bit of this hot PEI weather and beautiful summer views before the season begins to shift and change. ☀️🌊
*
What’s left to do on your summer bucket list? I hope you’ll use this as a reminder to make that special thing fit it into your schedule!!

  • Optimism out of expressing negative feelings.
*
I’ve been asked a lot how - in the midst of healing from late-stage Lyme Disease while trying to live and thrive - I’m able to stay so positive.
*
Truthfully, if I’m doing ‘the work’ I’m only positive about 90% of the time...the other 10% is when I allow myself to be disappointed about missed opportunities I can’t commit to because I’m unwell, get frustrated and angry when I have a relapse of symptoms for little to no reason at all, be desperately sad when I think about the years that have been wasted as I searched for answers about my health, and jealous of other peoples’ seemingly limitless supply of energy.
*
Really feeling into the ‘negative’ and uncomfortable emotions and acknowledging them helps me to feel the positive emotions more strongly, too. Because all of it is valid, it needs to be acknowledged.
*
My emotion-processing method: set an alarm on my phone for 5-10 minutes, and use that time to complain out loud to someone who is super patient and understands I need to vent, or journal the heck out of how I’m feeling in that moment with all the gritty unpolished parts of myself included. Once the alarm rings, that’s it! Pencils down, time to switch gears and onto something more positive. I dedicated time to expressing the feeling and it’s out of my body and mind.
*
How do you cope with so called ‘negative feelings’? Have you learned to process them in a different way?
