  • On the way back to the bus stop I looked through the gate of the Christ’s College. Look what’s inside!
.
The University of Cambridge has 31 colleges, founded between the 13th and 20th centuries. Christ's College that I visited today is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. The college includes the Master, the Fellows of the College, and about 450 undergraduate and 170 graduate students.

The college was founded by William Byngham in 1437 as God's House. In 1505, the college was granted a new royal charter, was given a substantial endowment by Lady Margaret Beaufort, and changed its name to Christ's College, becoming the twelfth of the Cambridge colleges to be founded in its current form.

The college is renowned for educating some of Cambridge's most famous alumni, including Charles Darwin and John Milton.

Within Cambridge, Christ's has a reputation for highest academic standards in the world and strong tutorial support. It has averaged 1st place on the Tompkins Table from 1980–2006 and third place from 2006 to 2013, returning to first place in 2018 and 2019.

  • So on Tuesday we left Cambridge for good. 😢August has been a whirlwind of a month with my husband finishing up his thesis, saying goodbye to dear friends and frantically organising our household, so it fits into a moving van. 📦🚛 I can’t quite comprehend yet that I won’t have views like these anymore. Cambridge will forever have a special place in my heart. ♥️ #CambridgeUK #KingsCollegeChapel #KingsParade #CambridgeUniversity

  • “Secondary school was tough man. We obviously weren’t rolling in money. I was on £10 a week and pocket money was a non-existent concept. It became almost everyday practice for me to skip lunch to save money to do and buy other things. Obviously my parents had no idea I was doing this, and bare in mind also they got four other kids to think about and finance...I’ll never forget stationary shopping with my dad before starting year 7, and I’d spent quite a bit of his money, so when it came to choosing a school bag I chose a fairly dead string bag purely because it was the cheapest thing there. I got mocked for it in school, which is always gonna get to your head when you’re that young. I managed to skip enough lunches to save up for a classic Just Do It backpack, which to be honest I didn’t even find that nice, and lied to my parents saying that it was a birthday gift.”

  • Girton has a proud history as an institution that changed the world. Founded in 1869 by Emily Davies, Barbara Bodichon and Lady Stanley, the College is distinctive for being Britain’s first residential college for women offering an education at degree level. The College has always set the pace on matters of equality and inclusion – Girton was also the first of the Women’s Colleges to go mixed – over forty years ago. But this is just the start. From the day the door first opened, to as recently as last week, Girton has had the knack of changing people’s lives. They, in turn, have gone on to shape the future – or some part of it at least.
