  • Everybody has unique preferences and needs, but these are 4 options our dietitian recommends on a pretty consistent basis 👌
.
The combination of these options ticks a lot of nutritional boxes such as adding some protein, fibre and a tonne of micronutrients 👍
.
From a sustainability perspective, it is easier for some people to choose a flavoured yoghurt. The flavoured Chobani yoghurts have a little bit of added sugar, but If anybody is worried about the sugar content though, there are no added sugar options such as YoPro or Chobani Fit 💪
.
Fruit is an easy one and our dietitian's preference is for it to be whole fruit, with a focus on variety 🍏🍓🍉🍊🥝🍐
.
The muesli bar is often the first one our dietitian would drop for people on lower calories, particularly if they aren't getting hungry, since it can add an extra ~200 calories and a lot of benefits overlap with the nuts. For situations where it fits better, it can add some protein, fibre and healthy fats ✅
.
With the nuts our dietitian is pretty specific about the amount, since it can make a huge difference. For people looking to lose weight, 20-30g of nuts have been consistently been linked with a lot of positive outcomes. For people looking to gain size they could add more than that since they are an easy way to add calories 🤙
.
This is pretty simple stuff, but if you replace other typical snack options with these ones consistently, it will make a huge difference 🔥

⠀
📍So you downloaded an app like myfitnesspal, or found a calculator online to help you calculate out your macros and total calories you should be eating to either lose weight or gain. The only thing is that you have been following your recommended dietary intake and nothing has changed in terms of weight gain or lose.
⠀
📍Calculators Give a Predicted Value
Calorie calculators are not exact. They provide you with an estimation. You have to understand that the values that are being taken into account are numbers like age, current bodyweight, gender, and general activity level. These are values that are general and don’t take into account how your body uses energy at a physiological level. One of the most important factors to consider is your resting metabolic rate (RMR). This variable is general calculated out and varies from person to person even though their stats might be the same.
⠀
📍Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
This measures the energy required to maintain essential physiological processes in a relaxed state. To get a more accurate measure of your maintenance calories, you would need to use an indirect calorimetry machine generally to get that measure. Once you get that measure, you can get a more accurate number of how many calories you burn at rest which helps determine the number of calories you should eat.
⠀
📍If you don’t take an RMR test, then your best bet is to go by the number on the scale and how you look visually. If things aren’t changing after some time, try increasing or decreasing calories slightly to see if that makes a difference. Since it’s a predicted value it won’t be exact.
⠀
📍Calorie calculators are great place to get started, but will vary between each individual. You must adjust your calories as needed.
⠀
Hope that helped you guys out and not to completely rely on these calorie calculators to be the exact value!

  • Since it’s birth in a suburb of Johannesburg in 1987, the delectable simplicity of Nando’s flame grilled chicken has since taken the world over. Nando’s is the casual dressed eatery of choice for many, regardless of their nutritional aspirations. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In comparison to many express dine in establishments, consumption of chicken, coupled with assortments of nutrient dense foods, may lead one to believe that Nando’s is the ‘fat loss’ alternative. And this may well prove valid if it is enjoyed. But instances such as the accumulation of 1/2 a peri peri houmous starter, 10 wings, regular chips, macho peas and extra sauce = a caloric intake of 1845 nutrient inclusive calories. But nonetheless... 1845 calories before drinks are considered. ⁣
⁣
Energy balance over periods of time directly defines one’s rate of fat loss, gain or maintenance. Nothing else. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This likely exceeds ‘would-be’ calories consumed in a parallel McDonald’s visit. Whilst McDonald’s produce is mostly calorie dense, options are limited in comparison to Nando’s abundance of starters, main courses, sides and desserts, not to mention it’s exclusivity as a restaurant - where selection of multiple items is more likely. ⁣Swipe left to see the starters and sides. ⁣
⁣⁣
That said, Nando’s is enjoyed by millions - this should never change. Awareness of total energy consumed can therefore allow one to facilitate multiple Nando’s excursions into a successful diet. Once the hard nutritional facts of a Nando’s meal are grasped, one can adjust prior and subsequent nutritional intakes to accommodate what will likely be a calorie dense meal in happiness and calm control. ⁣
⁣
Such an eating episode can be free from guilt and enjoyed in serene knowledge that the fruits of the overall diet will yield progress. 🔥⁣⁣
⁣
What make up the components of your regular Nando’s excursions? 🍗 ⁣

  • This graphic represents the caloric properties of 9 trademarked foods/drinks sold in the USA and U.K.⁣
⁣
If we were to step into a make believe world for 2.75 minutes to hypothesize 2 cloned individuals existing on identical dietary intakes (including frequent consumption of the items above) and identical energy expenditures, one residing in the UK and one in the USA, their body compositions would be different over a period of time.⁣
⁣
By process of elimination, within 0.89 seconds, most will instantly recognize this difference stems from caloric difference. Therefore, world recognised brands such as Coca Cola, McDonald’s and Starbucks do not offer nutritionally identical products across the world. ⁣
⁣
Though the insinuation that the USA is one of the most overweight nations in the world because they propose convenient, highly palatable foods and drinks that are higher in calories than other nations, this assumption falls by the wayside upon learning that most nations around the world offer the same American versions. After all, the companies above are all American. ⁣
⁣
One reason some of the UK franchised versions are lower in calories is because, in April 2018, the government introduced the sugar tax, most notably on carbonated beverages/milkshakes. Inadvertently, as sugar makes up most of the caloric worth in these items. Less sugar = significantly less calories. ⁣
⁣
It is worth noting that Hungary, France, Portugal and Mexico have a similar sanction on sugar. The latter having a flat rate. But the UK allows manufacturers to alter their formulas to reduce the amount of sugar - and many have done just that to lower the calorie value of their products. ⁣
⁣
Regarding the Big Mac & fries, the calorie reduction is more linear across fats and carbs. ⁣
⁣
This comparison does not directly represent significance in obesity rates, but nonetheless, it does indicate that caloric differences can be significant over time if such foods and drinks in both countries are considered regularly. 🙂⁣

  • Alcohol and fat loss .

Drinking this weekend? Worried about the impact it will have on your training and physique? .

Below are my preferred strategies for damage limitation which might work for you. .

Get some exercise in early in the day. If I know I’m boozing heavy, I’ll try and do a metcon workout in the morning to burn a lot of calories and earn those pints. I don’t bother with weight sessions on these days as the recovery won’t be there and I’ll likely be sore the day or two after .

Make healthy food choices earlier in the day, we all know drinking and kebabs go hand in hand so at least try and get some good meals in in advance and line your stomach .

Drink as much water as you can over the course of the day before you start drinking, no one I know ever sticks to the water between every drink suggestion, but try to load up in advance .

Don’t bother with low calorie alternatives. If you enjoy Guinness or Baileys, have a Guinness or Baileys. I was one of those Michelob ultra knobs a few years ago and it taste like pish. There is a balance to be struck. .

Drink loads of water the day after, eat fresh unprocessed foods as much as you can and just simply cut back on the calories you eat the next day. Get outside for a walk to clear your head .

That’s it, no magic tricks or ground breaking advice, just simple stuff that works. Any questions just ask .
