  • The Australian bushfires are still raging, causing destruction beyond what I could ever imagine. Since September, at least 27 million acres have burned -- that’s 14 times larger than the horrific wildfires that hit our state in 2018. An estimated 1.25 billion animals have been lost, and 33 people have died, including three firefighters from California. With limited resources and around the clock work, firefighters from around the world have been battling a non-stop and exhausting assault for five months and there's no end in sight. So, what do we do? We pool our resources and send funds to organizations working on the ground to help save animals, people, and land.
Home/Work has teamed up with the ever talented Lili Arnold to produce stickers and magnets from the beautiful digital illustration she created to raise funds for the country. All profits from our sales go to New South Wales Rural Fire Service. You can pick these up at the shop or via are online shop (link in bio). A big thanks to Sticker Mule for helping us bring Lili's digital illustration into the physical world. And if you're feeling extra generous the following organizations are looking for help: @wwf_australia, @redcrossau, @cfsfoundation, @cfavic, and @wildlifevictoria.

  • You are my Koala Bear, and I am your tree! 🐨🌳.
.
Unfortunately the trees & the forests which are the koala’s home are on fire, putting this cute species in danger along with other wildlife which is native to Australia.
.
I met this fluffy furball, named Joey, in 2015 at Cairns, Australia. Holding him in my arms was like holding a newborn baby. Trust me, a Koala hug is one of the best & warmest hugs you’ll ever receive! And all this coming from someone who was never a pet person & was/is petrified of even dogs & pups.
From this day on, the Koala became my sweetheart & all I ever wanted was a Koala pet!
.
I sincerely hope & pray that Joey is alive & safe but my heart goes out to his brothers & sisters who were out in the wild & got caught in the bushfires.
It is estimated that Australia has lost a vast population of their native animals like koalas & kangaroos to the raging bushfires.
Urgent measures are needed to preserve whatever wildlife is left & save them from extinction. The ball is in our court now.
Every small step & contribution can go a long way in helping Australia overcome this large scale devastation.
To donate, kindly visit:

  • Post surgery

An anesthetised female koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) starts to recover from being anaesthetised after being treated for burns at a mobile wildlife triage centre at Bairnsdale (Victoria) that was set up to treat animals as a result of the bushfires that have been ravaging Australia.
She was brought in from Gelantipy (a rural locality 49 km north of Buchan, East Gippsland, Victoria) with had 3rd degree burns on hands from walking on hot ground from the bushfires, and was also not eating.
If a burnt koala is not rescued quickly and the burns don't kill them, injuries like this can also mean they can't climb a tree and so will starve. Also, if they can’t eat, they often don’t get enough/any fluids and so dehydrate - which cruely also means that the wounds will not heal. And even if they do survive the burns and the wounds start to heal, there is a danger that the scar tissue which forms on their little paws means that they may not be able to open/use their hands properly, and so will not be able to climb trees.

Luckily, this koala was found and rescued, and is now being treated and given all the love and care in the world.

Thank you to Environment Victoria, International League of Conservation Photographers ILCP and Wildlife Victoria for supporting me to go out and document these stories, and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in allowing me access to many places. Also thanks to the team Taronga Zoo Sydney and RSPCA Victoria team at the triage centre for their help on the day.

  • Our hearts go out to those impacted by the current Australian bushfire crisis which has had devastating impact on individuals, communities and animals across our country.

We have received many questions about the impact these conditions have had on wildlife and what actions you can take if you encounter injured wildlife.

Our Wildlife Hospital vet staff have offered the following advice: • Please ensure your own safety first
• Do not enter unsafe bushfire zones
• Keep the animal cool and in a quiet area, if they are burnt you can wrap them loosely in 100% cotton fabric and place them in a ventilated box which is lined with a towel. • You must have appropriate vaccinations to handle bats, and many other animals (such as venomous snakes) should only be handled by specialists
• Ensure you seek veterinary care as soon as possible. Take injured wildlife to your local vet or call WIRES (1300 094 737) or Sydney Wildlife Care (9413 4300) who can assist you. You can also contact our Taronga Wildlife Hospital for advice on 9978 4785. Our vet's and nurses are on standby to provide support and assist any vet clinics that need advice.

It is generally best not to interfere with animals that are not injured. Providing water in areas where there is none can help. Ensure you are filling up your birdbaths and put out shallow dishes of water from which wildlife can drink. Water can also be offered from a syringe or dropper, but please ensure you do not force an animal to drink.
Placing water bowls at different heights will help assist a range of species. It is also critical that pet cats and dogs are kept inside to protect wildlife. Heat-stressed wildlife are often weak and vulnerable, making them easy targets. It is also safer for your pets in these conditions.
Thank you to all our wildlife carers and volunteers who are working around the clock to ensure a future for our incredible wildlife.

  • “If the Great War of 1914 - 1918 was played out on the animal kingdom, it is here right now on the west coast of Kangaroo Island. ⁣⁣It was an apocalyptical canvas of death and destruction that rammed home our mortality and the power of nature. We found one live Koala this morning--that was it. He was just sitting dumbfounded by the base of a burnt tree. We approached cautiously, but sadly he summoned enough energy to climb up and out of our reach, otherwise we would have rescued him. 99% of Koalas being rescued are on the ground - not surprising really as they are better climbers than us.⁣⁣” - Photographer @davidyarrow reflects on a moment from his trip this week to Flinders Chase National Park on Australia’s Kangaroo Island.

  • This baby kangaroo was one of the lucky ones that got rescued, however there are thousands of other kangaroos, koalas, and many other species, including humans that were victims of the catastrophic fires that have scarred Australia for life. It is our moral job as human beings to protect and maintain our beloved home(earth). The thing is, we have taken this home for granted since the beginning of our time on it, and we have never given anything back in return except for more harm and destruction. It’s time to change that reality and become more responsible and accountable for everything we do on this planet from now on. ⠀
