I visited this museum for the first time and it was a
very nice experience. I have made the decision to start visiting museums throughout new york city whenever
I have the opportunity and showcase my photography.

  • HENRY CHALFANT: ART VS. TRANSIT, 1977-1987
🚇September 25, 2019 to March 8, 2020
🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Chalfant became interested in graffiti art when he arrived in New York in 1973, after graduating from Stanford University. By 1977, he had developed a technique of capturing exposures in rapid succession on his 35mm camera from different positions on the platform, documenting the entire train in multiple, overlapping shots.

  • Spent this rainy Saturday at the truly revelatory show of Henry Chalfant’s photographs of New York City street art at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. If you’re in New York, go! (It’s up through March 8th, and the Bronx Museum is free!) #art #museums #graffiti #nyc #thebronx #bronxmuseumofthearts

#BronxMuseumoftheArts #HenryChalfant
Widely regarded as one of the most significant documentarians of street art, Henry Chalfant has produced a voluminous body documenting the emergence of the trend since its early days in the Bronx, following its transformation into the international phenomenon it is today. Chalfant’s photographs are a work of visual anthropology and one of the seminal documents of American popular culture in the late twentieth century. • December 28, 2019 • Up to the @bronxmuseum of the arts to see “Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit, 1977-1987.” Through Chalfant’s documentarian work vibrantly displayed throughout the gallery, we are treated to a retrospective of art that might have otherwise been lost. In addition to the photos themselves, further insight is provided through a documentary film made for the exhibit, a timeline that talks about what was going on in #nyc and the world at that time, and 8 full size train panels dominate one full room to give viewers a perspective of scale. I highly recommend a visit. Afterwards we went to Central Park to take full advantage of the warm(ish) weather and then down to the tree at Rockefeller Center for our annual visit. Chris posted a tree photo so I’ll post our “trees” photos from the park. #subwayart #subwayartnyc #graffiti #bronxmuseumofthearts

  • Bronx Museum of the Arts trip! Students got a crash course in Bronx history while visiting both current exhibitions at the museum. The Life and Times of Alvin Baltrop shed light on the struggles the LGBTQ community had in New York City at a breaking-point moment, amid ruin and chaos. Alvin Baltrop is memorialized through a series of photographs, mostly taken by the abandoned piers near the meatpacking district in the 1970s. This exhibit and these photos are remarkable both for their social importance as well as for the groundbreaking visual dare. Rarely shown during his lifetime, Baltrop’s images return us to that conflicted era when the city was on the brink of a financial crisis; they convey the raw energy that characterized some of the city’s most impassioned grassroots campaigns for survival.
Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit 1977-87 displayed an awesome array of graffiti, original sketches & more. Students even got to create their own small graffiti inspired piece of art at the end of the tour.

  • Got up to the #bronxmuseumofthearts today to see #artvstransit, a very dope exhibition of subway #graffiti flicks by @henrychalfant . The foundation. The show is mind-blowing, especially the full-size reproductions of subway trains with burners on them, like the “Style Wars” whole car shown here (Noc 187).

  • New York City always has something new and colorful to show me. Walking past the Bronx Museum of the Arts, I decided to go inside, and check things out. There was an exhibit that highlighted the graffiti culture, pertaining to subway cars that have been painted. The museum turned one of the rooms into a mock-like subway car that included the subway sounds too. I was inspired to add some......movement to this experience. 🤣🎬 #men #adidas #bronxmuseumofthearts #nyc #nycagency #tallmen #entertainmentindustry #bronxnyc #adagency #actorlife #graffiti #mtasubway #donaldglover #performanceart #artexhibit #guys #nycstyle

  • What a great day being amongst our fellow coquito makers and enthusiasts. It was even greater to see the large amount of variety and quality of coquito all squeezed into one room. Seeing our culture being shared and enjoyed by so many fills us with pride and joy. Thank You Debbie Quinones for your continuous efforts in keeping the tradition of Coquito alive and for creating the Coquito Masters competition to help bring out the best in everyone's coquito.

  • Eddie Martinez was born in 1977 in Groton, Connecticut. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
His work draws inspiration from the great movements in painting such as surrealism or abstract expressionism.
There are obvious allusions to Willem de Kooning as well as to Robert Ryman's white-on-white paintings or Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Eddie Martinez is actually on view in “White Outs” at the Bronx Museum
