  • When I first came to the North of Sweden, I needed to buy clothes for a Nordic winter as temperatures can reach -35 in Piteå. So Björn took me to a shop in Luleå called "XXL"! I asked him did he bring me to that shop because he thought I was fat?! He laughed and said No it's the name of shop. 2) A friend of mine in Sweden gave birth to her 7th child and I told my neighbour the child was called "Seventen" because she has 7 kids my neighbour said are you sure it's not Sixten as Sixten is a Swedish name not seventon?! It turned out I was wrong and the child's name is Sixten. 3) At the breakfast table.. I placed Müsli in a bowl opened the fridge and reached for Fil poured it into my müsli then realised that the milk was off and I was about to throw it in the bin when Casper started laughing he said don't throw it away I will eat it. He said that's not milk it's called Fil, it's supposed to be like that. Fil, is a traditional fermented milk product from Sweden, and a common dairy product within the Nordic countries. 4) The swedes love their ticket system. Yes, tickets! Grab a ticket at the doctors surgery, at the deli counter in a supermarket, a ticket at the pharmacy even a ticket at the bank that's if you don't have an appointment (bank only) lastly grab a ticket from the machine to buy a train ticket at the train station, this is if you wish to talk to someone about information & travel 5) Sweden is expensive as most Nordic countries usually are, but there are ways of shopping around to save you some bucks (kr) "Willys" will save you some kronors as in my opinion it's the most reasonable priced supermarket in Sweden. To be honest I have not seen German shops such as Aldi and Lidl in the North of Sweden. I love shopping at ICA and now and again COOP they not the cheapest but some things I always get from either one such as vegetables and fruit.
