  • The Isle of Cats

This game has quickly become my favourite medium weight polyomino game to play! The art and components are gorgeous and the theme of rescuing cats is right up my alley! This game lives up to all of hype and then some. A definite keeper in my collection!

  • Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar
I have been waiting for over 8 years to get this epic game to the table. All I can say is... What an absolutely phenomenal game!!!. The giant connected gears add such a neat mechanism. I definitely recommend this game if you enjoy medium weight worker placement games.

  • On Sunday four of us will be playing the latest heavy euro from #vitallacerda who has designed some absolutely mind-bending games in the past. @markdarbyshire and I had a two player run through before the day and initial impressions are, well, it’s stunning. I don’t want to give too much away here, but I think it might end up being my favourite Lacerda yet. His games have run the spectrum of feeling for me, from I love it (The Gallerist) to I hate it (Lisboa), from I really enjoyed that even though I don’t totally get it (Kanban) to I understood the game immediately, but wasn’t that overly enamoured with it (Escape Plan). Disclaimer: Lisboa is a fascinating game, and as much as I love the art of Ian O’Toole and it’s super thematic, it made me think I’d spent three hours staring at the wall of a Victorian toilet. I just couldn’t get past it. But back to On Mars, I am buzzing to play it again #boardgame #boardgames #boardgaming #tabletop #tabletopgames #tabletopgame #boardgamesarelife #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamingislife #iloveboardgames

  • Played Champions of Midgard (base game only this time). As much as I love the expansions. (Prob some of my fav expansions of all time). The base game plays really good with 2 players. The desicions are much tighter.
I've also started cannibalizing other games for components. The coins are from Raiders and the card holders are from nemesis haha

Love love love this game

  • We ended the weekend with some Tichu! My favorite 'traditional' card game of all time. Always so intense and fun, just love it 😁 My team ended up losing both games, despite having some real killer hands 🤷‍♂️ I don't mind though, it's just another reason to get it to the table again soon 😉

  • One of the best theme park implementations in a board game (with the other being Unfair, which I’m going to be playing later today). Dinosaur Island puts you in the role of managing an entire theme park! From researching dinosaur DNA, to hiring staff and upgrading facilities, right down to managing the queues and making sure your visitors don’t get eaten! There are a plethora of choices available at every phase, allowing you to customise your park to your hearts content. Initially, I intended to make an attraction based park with only one dino to pull in the crowds. But after having drawn ONLY hooligans the first 2 turns, I had to change the way my park was managed. An early snag of the “rent-a-cop” (which gives points for every captured hooligan) and a spout of lucky/unlucky hooligan draws pushed me right over the edge to victory! A really fun and engaging game. Downtime was minimal due to a quick worker placement actions and a phase which had you playing by yourself (I thought this part could be made better as audits have to be involved which made some of the game quite draggy). But still, for a five player game, the game proceeded smoothly. Can’t wait to get this to the table again with the additional modules! #dinosaurisland #boardgame #boardgames #boardgamegeek #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgamer #tabletop #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgameaddict #boardgamenight #gamenight #tabletopgame #boardgaming #tabletopgaming #cardgame #bggcommunity #boardgamers #analoggames #geek #games

  • I’ve been searching for an affordable copy of #Ginkgopolis for a very long time – and here it is! 😍 I found it through a Facebook group and picked it up right here in Bremen. 👌 Not only did I finally acquire a gem for my collection, but additionally I met a very nice board gaming couple and we talked for an hour! 🥰 Hopefully, we’ll find the time to meet again soon and get some games played together! 👌 We are not getting many plays in ourselves these days between keeping the kid and the employer entertained … but I managed to set Ginkgopolis up and go through the rules at least – seems pretty easy to get into! Looking forward to our first play! ☺️ #pearlgames #heidelbergerspieleverlag #xaviergeorges #zmangames

Einfach Genial
(@kosmos_games)

Genial einfach - einfach Genial!

Ingenious

In Ingenious, a.k.a. Einfach Genial, players take turns placing colored domino-style tiles on a game board, scoring for each line of colored symbols that they enlarge. The trick, however, is that a player's score is equal to their worst-scoring color, not their best, so they need to score for all colors instead of specializing in only one or two.
Players take turns placing colored tiles on the game board, earning points for the number of matching colored symbols that radiate outward in straight lines from the placed tile. The trick is that the winner is not necessarily the player who has the highest scores in a few colors. Rather, the player with the highest score in his or her lowest-scoring color wins! It’s ingenious and it’s hugely entertaining, time and time again.

  • I’m kicking myself for not backing Isle of Cats!!! 😿 It’s an incredibly fun polyomino tile-laying game that incorporates card drafting in the same style as Bunny Kingdom. You are trying to save as many cats as you can by attracting them to your ship, but you have to manage your resources well (which are 🐟🐟🐟). You have to pay for the cards you keep, as well as use fish to “purchase” cats to place on your board. The color combinations matter too, because large groups of the same colored cat scores lots of points. The art is cute and funny, the little cat meeples are adorable, and the game is fun to play. Will definitely buy myself a copy somehow! Big thanks to @meeples.gonna.meep for teaching me how to play #IsleOfCats ! #boardgames

  • Brass: Birmingham! First impression is that it's just as fantastic as Lancashire, but more open and much less mean. The Brass system is so brilliant. Love it! 👌 Really enjoyed the addition of beer, the randomization of the merchant tiles and the revamped sell action together with the new industries. Small but very interesting changes. I missed the tightness of the Lancashire community map a little at 2p, but not nearly as much as I thought I would 🤷‍♂️ It's nice with some variation and I'm very glad to have both games in my collection! My girlfriend managed to win tonight's game with 157-140 👏 Looking forward to getting it back to the table as soon as possible for a rematch 😁
