  • Happpppy Sunday, y’all ♥️ — I’m still on this authenticity kick. Kick? I can’t think of a better word, but it’s definitely not a kick, so much as it is a lifestyle. Be you. Do you. Be authentic. Life is so much better and easier when you are being your true self. Don’t do things under the table that you wouldn’t want brought to light. Behave in a way that you don’t care who recounts your actions and/or words. Speak your truth. Live your truth. Be the truest version of YOU. ....unless you’re a big ole meanie, in which case, check yoself! 😜

  • A recent 400-page report completed by the French health authorities warn that LED lights can permanently damage your retina and disturb natural sleep rhythms.

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES) warned powerful LED lights are 'photo-toxic'. In this report, the body cautioned it can cause an irreversible loss of retinal cells and lead to a common cause of blindness.

I know there are some companies working toward creating a safer LED light bulb that emits little to no visible blue light but like Kevin say’s, the blue light that LED’s emit is only half of the problem, the other half is that they create dirty harmonics when they convert the 120vac to a lower level dc voltage to create light.

How can you reduce your exposure to blue light toxicity and have a better night’s sleep?

Use good old-fashioned halogen/incandescent bulbs like we do.

Apply filters to your blue light devices like your cell phones, laptops, TV’s and computer screens.

Wear blue blockers especially at nigh and be sure to cover up your skin.

Turn off as many overhead lights after dark and use a small desk lamp (a red bulb would be best) or something like a salt lamp.

Take plenty of lypo spheric vitamin c which can also provide antioxidant protection against blue light.

Also try to AVOID using your phone or PC after dark or too close to bedtime as your pupils will dilate and take in more blue light which will alter your bodies ability to trigger melatonin.

  • On blue light reflecting glasses 👓 and why we should all wear them (besides the fact they’re a pretty cute accessory).
.
.
The light that comes from the sun and our electronic devices is blue in wavelength. Unfortunately research suggests that this light that a lot of us spend hours per day staring into from our computers, phones, tablets and TVs can be reallllyyyyyyyyy bad for our health. It can suppress the secretion of melatonin (sleep hormone) and increase the secretion of cortisol (stress hormone) causing huge issues with our circadian rhythm and sleep cycles, as well as our ability to stay in the rest and relaxed state. Blue light can even kill photoreceptor cells in the retina and once they’re dead, they’re dead. No regeneration 💀 These specialized cells allow us to see light and dark and colour. .
.
Interestingly, in Chinese medicine the eyes are a manifestation of the Liver. The Liver controls the smooth flow of qi (which roughly translates to energy... kind of but not really). When qi gets blocked, the Liver gets congested and the stress response increases. So blue light elevating stress makes sense from Chinese medicine perspective as well. .
.
Since being diligent with wearing my super steezy new blue light glasses, I’ve experienced less eye strain and fatigue, headaches and tension. Plus they’re cute. 🙊 I highly recommend them.
.
Your eyes are the window to your soul. Keep em healthy friends!

  • Did you know that one of our greatest toxins is actually coming from our lighting??? This was a HUGE concern for me when constructing this new office. This space was literally a shell-one wall with wood floors and fluorescent lighting and I knew I needed to change out the lighting. .

Fluorescent lighting can deplete your body of nutrients, increase migraines, strain the eyes, suppress melatonin leading to decrease in sleep, an increase in stress and anxiety and more.
.
I did a ton of research and although it seemed there were great options from an aesthetic perspective with LED lighting, I didn't like what I was learning. Although LED is energy efficient, it contains lead and arsenic- to name a few-which gets emitted into the air we breathe. It also can contain blue light which can decrease melatonin, and damage your cell's mitochondria-key for wellness. When I saw light fixtures with LED lights my eyes immediately felt strained. I definitely wasn't going this route.
.
I learned that full spectrum lighting is an incredible solution. It actually mimics natural sunlight and can help you to replenish minerals lost from lack of sun in the winter. It is offered in light bulbs and even light boxes that you can shine on your eyes each day to help with SAD in the winter.
.
I ended up opting for clear incandescent bulbs which is another safe option or low voltage halogens. I plan to order a few of the full spectrum bulbs to see how they feel in the space for the winter.
.
Another tip is it can help to use blue blocking glasses at night because the excessive light we are exposed to from our computers, cell phones and LED's can actually weaken our eyes and decrease melatonin, wreaking havoc on our sleep and our well-being.

  • [C o r t i s o l] is often referred to as our stress hormone. It should be highest in the mornings to help us awaken and be alert. In a human with a correctly entrained circadian rhythm it should then drop to its lowest levels just before bed. Blue light from your digital devices and from artificial lights are keeping your cortisol levels high all day and evening. Over time this leads to anxiety, chronic stress and fatigue and depression. That’s why our blue light blocking glasses for daytime and nighttime are so vital for our health and well-being. They eliminate the exact frequencies of light that raise cortisol keeping anxiety, stress and depression at bay whilst protecting your eyes and mitochondria

  • [R e d] makes you go to bed. Red lenses are more superior than amber or yellow lenses for after sunset use. The reason is the melatonin disruption zone runs from 400-550nm. BLUblox red lenses block 100% of light is this range. Amber lenses only truely block blue light when green is also an issue. Yellow lenses are to be worn during the day when in doors. So remember when it comes to choosing your blue blockers “red makes you go to bed”
