  • There are a lot of things in life that cause us stress and anxiety. Food should not be one of them. It shouldn’t be a final thought. It shouldn’t strike us with fear. It shouldn’t have us crying over calories and isolating ourselves from friends and family. ⁣
⁣
Instead, food should be a way of injecting joy into our lives, whether it’s by tucking into an ice cream on a hot summers day, or ordering that large buttery popcorn at the cinema. It should be a way of bringing people together. Family dinners. First dates. Nights out. Staff parties. Catch ups with the girls.…the list goes on and on. If we let our eating disorders and our negative thoughts control us, we'll be missing out on all of these amazing moments.⁣
⁣
Your life doesn't start once you've lost that last ten pounds. Your life is happening right now. So fill up your tummy with healthy yummy foods and stop missing out.⁣

  • Right now, many of us feel a range of different emotions and a real sense of change and uncertainty. Even if you don’t struggle with your #MentalHealth, looking after your mental health has probably become a higher priority as we face the unpredictable and unprecedented nature of our new way of living due to the #COVID19 pandemic.
Many people are experiencing a range of different emotions in response to this situation. One strategy that can be useful, is to allow these emotions to come into your awareness and to sit with them with awareness of how they are impacting you without fighting them. To slow down and sit for a minute, and acknowledge that however you feel, whether it be sad, angry, worried, anxious, numb, overwhelmed, detached, stressed, confused or any other feeling… This makes sense as our emotions are a key to guide us around how to act.
Right now, it’s important that we all have #selfcompassion and compassion for others. The way receive help and #MentalHealthTreatment has changed.
But the human experience of emotions is something that connects us all, despite any sense of #SocialIsolation you may be experiencing.

  • Enough said...
.
We need to stop saying what size body parts are in, and start reframing it. NATURAL BODYS ARE IN!
• regardless of their shape
• regardless of their size
• regardless if they’re proportionate or not
• regardless if they have dimples or stretch marks.
.
Our 👏🏼body parts 👏🏼are 👏🏼not 👏🏼trends.
.
Big butts
Thin waists
Thick thighs
Large breasts
IT STOPS. This year. 2020. No more!
.
Our bodies are perfect machines.
Our body is a miraculous marvel.
Our body is OUR business.
.
There is, IN FACT, nothing wrong with your body, your face, your skin complexion, your eye lashes, your stomach, your stretch marks, cellulite, hair, teeth... I could go on and on! Naming off every body part and feature that THEY tell us “isn’t enough”... “is too much”.
.
I’m sorry (not sorry) F*ck that!
What IS wrong are companies telling you “this product will get you the guy... make you happy... and fulfill all your wildest dreams”.
Yeah. No. #FakeNews
.
Real is in, lady’s. It’s making a comeback. And it has nothing to do with size or shapes, weight or numbers. Just good ol’ untouched, gracefully aging beauty. #imSizeHappy #SizeHappySociety

  • just some nicely looking bowl of oatmeal i had for dinner couple of days ago ``update: i decided that i should go on a mealplan. because although i eat, i may not eat as much as my body needs and it could be one of the minor aspects of me bingeing and I want to live a life without worrying about my eating disorders all the time. also it came to my mind that maybe i eat small portions which - for me - seem big but actually aren't. well, whatever it is, imma get over it with determination and a little help from others. i'm excited but scared a lot, too because i have no idea what I should expect and how will everything turn out. i hope i just won't have any problems with keeping up with my mealplan. fingers crossed! 🧚‍♀️
plus i binged again today but it won't stop me from eating tommorow and trying my best to fight back. ---------------------------------------------------------------

I have no idea on points value, but my dad made a lasagne & some chippies for dinner tonight 🤗 but I’m assuming it can’t be *too* bad points wise - I’ll just make sure to have a better day tomorrow, definitely not going to be rude and turn down a dinner made for me atm ☺️🙈 •

  • Weight gain on carnivore? Oh, it’s a thing. .
.
After 10 months of being carnivore, I started gaining weight pretty rapidly and I wasn’t sure if it would ever stop. I was terrified and tried different things - going OMAD, switching my f/p ratios, working out more, etc, but nothing worked. .
.
Then 5 months later, my weight dropped back down to what it originally was. I don’t know if this had to do with hormone issues or what, but I did know I had no other choice but to stick with this way of eating because it’s how I felt best. It kept my food addiction/binge eating tendencies at bay, and my energy levels were great. My point here is that carnivore isn’t a magical weight loss tool, but a healing tool for many. I believe your body has an agenda of its own and will figure it out if you continue to feed it nutrient-dense foods. .

.
I 5 step per guarire: ACCETTARSI, ESSERCI, IMPARARE, GUARIRE, AMARSI

  • I know that online sessions are new to some of you. And change can be scary, but there are always perks. I have personally always found that there is no difference between how I connect with the clients I work with in person and the ones I talk to through a screen. Some of them actually prefer it! The work we do is just as important, effective and valuable. It just might take some getting used to.
_
*important disclaimer: if you’re not wearing pants, make sure the camera is only showing you from the shoulders up.

  • Non scale victory !! A year ago It hurt to move . My knees were swollen and when the girls wanted to cuddle I was terrified they would bump my knee. I could not climb the flight of stairs at work without resting , and I certainly could not go outside and play with my girls . This tool has given me my life back ! Today is the first really nice day we’ve had in Indiana this spring and I was the first one outside ! We’ve ridden bikes , basketball, taken walks and played tennis all this spring . If you’ve thought about this surgery , but fear has held you back ......do it . I was alive ,but dying everyday. I’ve got another chance at life and I’m not wasting a second ! #gsv. #wls #sleevegastrectomy #nolooseskin #nocellulite #myweightlossjourney #bariatricsurgery #takeyourlifeback #bingeeatingdisorder #nsv #nonscalevictory #beautifulday #workfromhome

  • I remember being so scared, yet so relieved, to have a diagnosis.⁣
⁣
Finally, I felt like I had an explanation as to what I was experiencing.⁣
⁣
But I was afraid.⁣
⁣
Afraid of what others may think.⁣
Afraid it might hurt my chances for opportunities in the future.⁣
Afraid that this was something that could derail my life.⁣
Afraid that this diagnosis would define me.⁣
⁣
It's something I'll always carry with me, no doubt, but it doesn't have to define who I am, or what others think of me. I've truly learned over the past five years that 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬.⁣

  • In order to limit the intake of your night time calories, it's important that you find the root cause. Finding the cause is harder than you think and because we are so ingrained in our habits, we don't realize we are snacking at all.

But with these tips you can identify the cause of your snacking, how to break the associations, and things you can do to ensure you stay on track.

Hopefully these help. ---

  • Hvor meget fylder maden, her midt i karantænen?

I skabene? Hvad skal mit næste måltid bestå af? I stedet for bare at lade kroppen guide mig. Så nu prøver jeg at nulstille. Igen.

Men det er svært. Der skal så lidt til, før BED'en har magten. Det er en evig kamp.

  • Emotional Dieting © : What It Is & Why It Doesn't Work
.
.
That was the topic of yesterday's LIVE VideoCast episode for our members in Circle of HOPE ~ our Online Educational Community for Full Recovery from Emotional & Binge Eating. .
.
What is "Emotional Dieting," you ask? If you try to only feel "good" feelings and stay away from the "bad" ones, then you might be an emotional dieter. If you're afraid that if you start feeling something other than "fine," you'll never stop feeling with such intensity, then you might be an emotional eater. These points, plus many more, were explored in depth. .
.
For our members who weren't able to join us live yesterday, and for all of you who may become members of Circle of HOPE, this episode along with all of our other weekly episodes for the past 6 months are available in full to you in the Video Archives section of our online community. It's like a learning library at your fingertips specifically focused on helping you break free from binge eating and create lasting recovery in your life. .
.
Learn at your own pace. Connect with other like-hearted recovery warriors. And watch full recovery begin to happen!

  • if you missed it, i posted my very first podcast episode yesterday!.
:: LINK IN BIO :: (( listen at anchor.fm or on spotify )).
it’s something i’ve wanted to start for a long time now but my anxiety got in the way. so what better way to begin than opening up about my experience with food anxiety in particular. in this episode i talk about my relationship with food over the past couple years & navigating food anxiety amid covid-19.
it’s estimated that up to half of us deal with disordered eating habits & under these stay home orders a lot of that is coming to light. this is just a little reminder that whatever you’re dealing with, you’re not alone in this. 🤎

  • A lot of people are asking about emotional eating as a result of boredom and loneliness while in isolation. This is so normal! It's your brain's way of giving you something to feel happy about, or to distract you from current events. ⁣
⁣
👉 Resist the urge to try to restrict or diet during these times (or anytime!) as this will make you more likely to binge and there's quite enough panic surrounding food supplies as it is, so let's not add to it! ⁣
⁣
👉 Instead use this time to check in with yourself and how you're feeling. My online emotional eating course (link in bio) has lots of coaching videos and workbooks to help you develop effective coping mechanisms.

  • this past few days I've been thinking a lot of how i want to make this acc look, but i just got to the conclusion that it's not about the look, it's about MY recovery and helping myself and maybe others to cope with this quarantine.
-
this quote is something I've been trying to remind myself everyday since I've been having really bad body image days and it's been pretty hard to get trough it. i need to learn that food is NOT my enemy, the only enemy i have are those thoughts that tell me that I'm not worthy for eating a biscuit (for example).
-
so yeah, i hope y'all know the fact that being quarantined doesn't mean you have to lose weight because you see it every single damn time on memes, post, etc. but about focusing on your mental health, learning, resting, taking your time to heal. i really hope you do good this time so when it ends you can still get trough shit like you've done this time.
-
IT'S OK NOT TO BE OK SOMETIMES. pls remember that.

  • Good morning. I haven't posted in awhile but I have been battling a lot of inner demons along with dealing with anxiety from everything going on in the world. When I get overwhelmed I shut down and don't want to do anything. I can't bring myself to get on the scale because I know I have gained back some of the weight in the last month. I'm still working on my goals. Everything morning I wake up trying to do better than the day before. I am diagnosed with binge eating disorder (BED) and in the process of getting diagnosed with sleep apnea. I started therapy last week and look forward to working on my issues. Mentally I am so confused on what the right way to eat is. One doctor says vegan, one doctor says Keto. My body prefers vegetarian/vegan. #weightlossjourney #backstep #honesty #bingeeatingdisorder #dietconfusion #overwhelmed #exhausted #stilltrying #struggling

  • With all the Covid-15 messages, memes and fear mongering I'm now seeing, this needs to be said:
Bodies change. It’s inevitable throughout the stages of our natural lives and during times of stress.
Our genetic blueprint is established the moment of conception. So whether we’re born long and lean or soft and pudgy, once we hit puberty it is EXPECTED and NECESSARY to gain weight. Then again, if we as women decide or are able to birth a child, the body changes. Then again during menopause, our body’s change. Then again as we age. That’s the evolution of our physical self. That’s it. No exclamation needed; no justification; no reason to explain yourself and no reason to hide it.

Adding chronic, ongoing trauma to the scenario, which is what we are all experiencing in one way or another (as opposed to acute stress), alters the body’s physiological response. Our body will do what ever it takes to survive and preserve. It's protecting you… even if it doesn’t know from what it’s protecting. So if we’re limiting our intake because of yet an additional fear (weight gain), it won’t get what it needs to thrive. You’re actually inhibiting the ability to ward off infection or illness by stressing it beyond its capacity.

Our bodies, the “home" in which we reside until we leave this earth, need to be cared for more than ever. That means nourishment, not self induced restriction. It means balance and variety and some form of structure as much as able while allowing flexibility and self compassion. This is what enhances immunity. Diets do not. Fear of weigh gain will not. Shaming bodies for changing as a response to stress will not. Diets do not promote health. They impair it.

  • Today I can't help but cry. All the things most people are finding hard during this crisis I'm taking in my stride, but when it comes to the food element I'm a broken woman.
*
[Please do not continue to read if you are feeling too emotionally vulnerable to handle eating disorder talk]
*
Logically I know I have food, and I have access to food, albeit by different means to usual. But eating disorders are complex. It's not just a case of getting food and everything being okay again.
A huge element of eating disorders is secrecy and control and now all that has been taken away indefinitely. I have to put my trust, and the control, in the hands of other people and services. People who do not know how I like things to be. People who can't guarantee whether they will be able to get all the things I've asked for. People who mean well, but don't understand.

I've lost my control. I've lost my security blanket. I've lost my comfort and reassurance.

All I'm left with is panic and the true extent of the depths of my disorder. I feel scared and alone and extremely fragile.
I'm determined to source an alternative means of getting food by the end of today because I need to have something in place, but I feel so overwhelmed going through all the options.

Hugs to all my fellow ED warriors who have had their safety net taken away and who can't do their usual rituals and are living in panic and fear.

Please don't tell us to take this opportunity to learn healthier eating habits and reinvent our relationship with food. This is a terrifying time for us.

Finally big thanks to my daughter for doing her best to love me, support me, and understand my pain, at the tender age of five. My true love 💜💜

  • If you, like me, woke up and immediately turned on the news and started scrolling for corona updates-
.
Here is your gentle reminder to unplug and step away from time to time.
.
Our brains can’t process suffering and uncertainty/terror in this staggering capacity for days and days on end.
.
Don’t let anyone shame you for taking breaks from the media coverage. Of course we all need to stay informed. I’m just advocating for daily “unplug” time to breathe and reboot (see what I did there💁🏻‍♀️)
.
Boundaries around how much media you are consuming right now isn’t ignoring what is happening. It’s survival❤️

  • One of the most profound moments in my recovery was realising that my eating disorder was not a death wish, it was a survival mechanism. When my life fell apart and I had nothing else to hold onto, I filled that void with the ED. For a period of time, until I was in a position to get better, it kept me held together.
_
Your eating disorder is not a personal failure or a reflection of your flaws. For so many of us, it stands in as a means to survive when we have nothing else. It’s an indication that your instinct is to live, that you are trying to protect yourself.
_
Forgive yourself for doing what you could with what you had at the time. Find some compassion for that younger version of yourself who did what they had to do to keep you around long enough to find a better way. To recover and see through what they wanted for you. To live.

  • It’s normal to feel a little bummed if you are someone who enjoys movement at the gym-but if the feeling goes beyond that, it might be a good time to re-evaluate your relationship to movement.
.
If you are struggling with the gyms being closed I’d encourage you to write down some of your eating disorder beliefs around that and then practice challenging those beliefs.
.
If you are medically stable and not on exercise restriction from your treatment team (ie have the ability to explore movement without it being compulsive) think about what you enjoyed doing as a kid. What kind of movement sounds joyful? For ex: dancing in your house.
.
Also, it’s important to give yourself and your body permission to rest. Dealing with stress is exhausting and especially if you’ve been struggling with compulsive exercise-your body so needs this time right now to rest. It’s ok if the only movement you are doing is flipping through the pages of a book.
.
Ultimately, at the end of your life I highly doubt you’ll be fondly reminiscing on the time that you spent chained to a treadmill at the gym. Life is about so much more than that. So go make some memories. 💫

  • Sometimes I sit down at my computer and the words just flow.
Like they did today.
Today I wrote my most vulnerable post to date I think.
And even though it took some bravery, I hope today someone is moved to take their first step in healing.
It’s National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and I’m taking about mine and what the voice of an eating disorder sounds like.

It’s not pretty.
But it’s my story.
And my story is one of healing.
And hope.
And change.

I’m not the girl with an eating disorder anymore, I’m the girl who overcame an eating disorder and will spend my life helping others believe in themselves enough to do the same.

  • Despite what the diet industry and your eating disorder might tell you-you don’t need to fear food.
.
Last night Mark and I had a 5 course dinner at @themeltingpotrestaurants and I had a bunch of white chocolate fondue with brownies etc dipped in it (sooooo good!)
.
Today, we stopped into @dunkin to grab donuts for a snack.
.
This weekend I’ve also had a variety of other foods including plenty of carbs, protein, fat & some fruits + vegetables.
.
No food is good or bad and you don’t need to fear dessert items.
.
I have to say my life now of eating whatever the heck I want and being present for the important moments in my life is a million times better and more fulfilling than my eating disorder ever was. 💕
.
PS. This comes from the girl who in her eating disorder once thought to myself “I wouldn’t eat that bakery muffin even if someone paid me thousands of dollars” 😥

  • I was afraid of coffee.⁣
⁣
Not black coffee, but good, sweet, cream-filled coffee.⁣
⁣
“Don’t drink your calories” was a cardinal rule burned into my brain.⁣
⁣
So I didn’t and I forced myself to believe I liked it.⁣
⁣
Have you ever done that?⁣
⁣
Made yourself believe you like something but deep down it’s really just rooted in fear?⁣
⁣
I mean God forbid I waste a single calorie on something I couldn’t chew.⁣
⁣
This was just one of the many toxic, fear rooted beliefs I had to move through as I healed from food anxiety & emotional overeating.⁣
⁣
If you have fear foods (drinks), it would be powerful to share those in the comments. You’re not alone & it’s nothing to feel shame over.⁣
⁣
Let’s take our power back by bringing those fears out of isolation & into the light. And show each other that if you have these fears you’re really, truly not alone ♥️ #FoodFreedom⁣

  • I’m a mental health advocate who is meant to instil hope, but who has spent the last few months climbing out of my own hopelessness. I felt like a failure and a bad role model for a while. I told myself that I am supposed to be an example of full recovery from my eating disorder and therefore demonstrate perfect coping strategies and unshakeable strength.
_
I was scared to share my Dad’s diagnosis, something I kept from you for a long time. I was even more scared to share how anxious and depressed I became before and after his passing. I am still scared to tell you I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress in October of last year. Partly because it’s nobody’s business, but also because I was certain I would be letting people down.
_
I went back and did the work. Sat down with a therapist. Followed the advice. Cried. A. Ton. Fought my way through panic attacks. Learned how to be kind and patient with myself all over again.
_
That last one helped me to stop feeling like such a fraud. I have had to re-learn some old lessons - that I am deserving of help, no matter what my brain tells me. And some new ones - that I am not immune to hardship and mental health issues just because I am recovered and have a few answers about a few things. I am still growing, learning and trying. I do not have to have everything figured out, no one expects that of me, except me.
_
And the most important lesson, the one which always rings true. To speak up, reach out, let other people carry your pain with you. Even if it’s uncomfortable. You are never ever ever in this alone. And the work is always worth it. It has been for me. I am certainly getting there.
_
Thanks to the bushfires and lost post, I’m a bit late to this one, but am honoured to support @batyraus for their It’s Awkward campaign by starting a conversation about mental health that could be a little awkward but is so important in helping smash the stigma and ensure people are getting the support they need. Head to @batyraus or their website for more tips on starting a convo or what to do when the conversation becomes to big for you.

  • CW: Diet, weight loss

Last night, I signed up for noom. Then I signed up for WW.
Today, I cancelled both.

As I sat in the car while Bill drove me back to work after lunch and I logged the points of my whole wheat, six inch turkey sub with no cheese or mayo, I felt sick.

I saw only a handful of points left for the whole day.

I felt confused because I’d hardly eaten anything yet today. But there it was; the number that had been assigned to me by an algorithm almost depleted with a full meal still to go.

That’s when I texted my mom and said, “Mom, I can’t do this all over again.”
I just can’t start back where I promised I’d never go again.

The last month or so have been rough for me because I’ve been fighting an internal battle with my mind over my body.

I’ve been terrified of weight gain.
Of what people think of me.
Of what the scale will say.

I’ve been subconsciously counting calories and beating myself up for eating anything bad. My body, like the warrior that it is, prepared for restriction. Thus, I’ve binged more times than I can count over the last month.

The cycle has started again. I’ve relapsed.

The truth is, relapses are common in ED recovery. They are part of recovery. And they are nothing to be ashamed about. There’s healing in relapse.

This experience reminded me just how much I don’t want to go back there; Back to the days of tracking and calculating every morsel of food I put in my mouth.

The days of being constantly worried about what I look like and if I’m gaining weight with every new bite.

I refuse to go back there.

And while I know I’ve taken a few steps behind now, I believe I’ll take many more ahead again soon.

  • Can we normalize NORMAL relationships?⁣
⁣
Because as much as I love a cute photo w my hubs my marriage does not look like the fairy tales I see on social media.⁣
⁣
Through couples counseling I learned that my marriage was suffering under the weight of my own unrealistic expectations.⁣
⁣
He is not supposed to fulfill my need for girl talk >> girls friends are⁣
Or my need for fatherly love >> my dad is (and does ♥️)⁣
He also does not need to understand every aspect of my journey as an entrepreneur >> my business coaches do⁣
⁣
On the flip side:⁣
⁣
I can’t fulfill Hung’s need for time with the boys⁣
Nor can I provide him the same love & comfort his siblings do⁣
And I certainly can’t fulfill his need to be around other Vietnamese⁣
⁣
I guess the point is, when we expect our partners to be our EVERYTHING we often wind up disappointed.⁣
⁣
But they’re not supposed to be.⁣
⁣
They are *one* beautiful (and yes, large) part of our lives but we need more.⁣
⁣
And just to be clear⁣
we fight⁣
have our disagreements⁣
get under each other’s skin⁣
and don’t always see eye to eye⁣
⁣
And that’s OKAY! We’re thriving and we love + respect each other deeply.

Or my need for fatherly love >> my dad is (and does ♥️)⁣
He also does not need to understand every aspect of my journey as an entrepreneur >> my business coaches do⁣

    On the flip side:⁣

I can’t fulfill Hung’s need for time with the boys⁣
Nor can I provide him the same love & comfort his siblings do⁣
And I certainly can’t fulfill his need to be around other Vietnamese⁣

I guess the point is, when we expect our partners to be our EVERYTHING we often wind up disappointed.⁣

But they’re not supposed to be.⁣

They are *one* beautiful (and yes, large) part of our lives but we need more.⁣

    And just to be clear⁣
    we fight⁣
    have our disagreements⁣
    get under each other’s skin⁣
and don’t always see eye to eye⁣

And that’s OKAY! We’re thriving and we love + respect each other deeply.
