#docteno #ukazknihu #copravectu #tipnaknihu #kniznizavislak #ukazknihu #kniha #knihomolka #ctenimebavi #ctu #radactu #valecnyroman #czbook #bibliophile #bibliophiles bookspo #bookishcommunity

  • I've been really in the mood for thrillers lately. I read The Silent Patient this past summer because of all the hype and I enjoyed it.

Yesterday, I finished The Turn of the Key and it was incredible.

QOTD: What thrillers are on your tbr?

  • “Here’s the twist to your story, Charlie. You ready for it?" he growled and nipped at my lower lip. "Breathe me in deep. Hold your breath. I will make you fall in love with me again. Because I sure as shit didn’t think I’d ever see you again, and I sure as shit didn’t think I could fall in love with you again, but I did." His hands gripped me tighter. "Like I was falling from a cliff, Charlie. Then...then…I realized when I hit the ground; I’ve been in love with you this whole time. It never stopped. I’ll never stop. I will never stop, and I will never give up on you." His voice lowered, “It was you from the beginning, the minute you taped that skull and crossbones to your window wearing those baggy jeans, that Nirvana T-shirt, and those God-awful chucks, you were my horizon. Everything I could ever see.” ― Christine Zolendz, Here's To Falling

A butterfly,
Born on the ground,
A crawling mess of fibers and legs.
We see it change,
We see it turn,
We see the transformation,
From fibers and legs to beauty and wings.
And we stare,
Awed,
Bewildered,
Entranced by its beauty.
But who stares at the caterpillar?
Ugly.
Disgusting.
Grub.
We spew these hateful words,
Shun the fibers and legs,
Until it is beautiful.
But is it not still a butterfly?
I was born beautiful.
Perfect pink toes,
Perfect blue eyes.
Perfection has a heavy cost,
And I paid the price.
Watch me grow,
Watch me transform,
See me change.
Scribble the ugliness on your paper,
Let it process,
Save it for later.
Godless.
Hateful.
Angry.
But am I not still human?
Am I not still a metaphorical butterfly?
A butterfly, but in reverse. 🦋

  • “To us my love, for being lucky enough to find the love of our lives and stubborn enough to refuse to let go.”
⚘
I don't know how many times my jaw dropped or I said wow! There’s so much going on to the point that I was even shocked at a couple of outcomes. This isn't just your average romance. Full of angst and a huge testing of friendships and relationships, it's like everyone’s got a lesson to learn by their actions and consequences.
⚘
"Can we survive turning into our worst nightmares?"
⚘
Darkness swept in.
Smothering everything in its inky black.
I have turned into their worst nightmares.
And I will not rest until they pay.
For everything.
⚘
I completely loved reading this story, it was filled with twists and turns that I didn’t see coming at all. We get to learn more about the crew individually and how connected they really are. Truths come out and loyalties are questioned. What I loved the most was the chemistry between Natalie and Penn. It’s sizzling and passionate. Their moments together truly had me rooting for them and Penn is just so swoon worthy!
⚘
"This is just me. I’m not perfect. I’m still working on me. And I’ll probably fuck it up again, Nat, but I’m willing to try with you. For you.”
⚘
I have been waiting with bated breath to read this last installment and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Ms Linde had it all perfectly mapped out but oh boy, did she send us on a rollercoaster of a journey throughout this trilogy.
⚘
"Cruel boys and girls cementing their cruel legacy in blood."
⚘
Speaking of the end…..I LOVED it. I felt the author wrapped up this story perfectly. You truly are left with no unanswered questions and I had the biggest smile on my face.
⚘

  • 🆕 📖 REVIEW 🗣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A huge thank you to @authorquinnavery for sending me a copy of this really fun murder mystery! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Bexley Squires is a journalist turned sleuth when a celebrity pays her a crap ton of money to prove his innocence. He wants her to investigate a murder he has been accused of when a dead girl he had been spotted with washes up on the shore. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Against her better judgement, Bexley accepts the job because she desperately needs the money to find her sister that disappeared. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As she investigates the murder and starts uncovering clues, she doesn’t know who to trust. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I loved Bexley’s character. She’s smart, witty, and determined to not let anyone get in her way of solving the crime. I honestly suspected every character at one point or another. I picked up this book and before I knew it, just a few hours later, I had finished it! Couldn’t put it down and I needed to know how it all played out!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The best news is that this is book 1 of a series. Book 2 is out now and book 3 is available TOMORROW!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I can’t wait to see what Bexley gets into next! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
RATING —> YAAAS 🙌🏼⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Have you ever worn stilettos? I’m 5’11” so let me tell you that stilettos are not a good look for me. I prefer not to be 6’5” and towering over everyone. Also, my feet hurt in flats so hard pass for me. 😭⁣

  • Titre : La panthère des neiges
Auteur : Sylvain Tesson
Année de parution : 2019
Nb pages : 176
.
«- Tesson !

  • I’m almost embarassed by how much I loved @ceruleancynic's Strange Practice. But I’m not embarassed, because it’s great. 🦇🦇🦇
Greta Helsing, physician to the Undead, is drawn into a world of criminal intrigue when reclusive vampyre Varney is the subject of a brutal attack. With the help of regular client Ruthven, a helpful librarian, and (what-in-the-name-of-god -IS-he) friend Fastitocalon, Greta investigates a plot that sees ancient conspiracies and cosmic forces intersect with a series of grisly murders. 🦇🦇🦇
I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. After the first chapter, I had it pegged as a kitsch, humorous pastiche of Gothic tropes and characters, which it is, but it proved to be quite a bit more than that. In addition to ticking the regular spooky boxes (creepy monks, diaphonous nightgowns, ghouls) Strange Practice is a compelling mystery, with well constructed (and in some cases reimagined) characters. Shaw’s writing is beautifully self-aware, and I came to be surprisingly invested in all of her characters. For a host of vampires, demons, and ghouls, they’re surprisingly realistic (from Greta’s ugly crying to Ruthven’s shopping habits) and completely loveable. Strange Practice was utterly charming, and I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the series! 🦇🦇🦇
Also, how cute are the illustrations in the front matter?! 🦇🦇🦇

.
Nota: 3,3/5

  • Transit by Anna Seghers (first published in 1942) is a masterpiece. It's about people fleeing the Nazis, waiting in Marseille for the papers that will allow them to leave the country. The process is hellish and convoluted (and sadly familiar to Filipinos). In order to stay in Marseille you need a transit visa, but you have to prove that you don't intend to stay, so you need a ticket on one of the few ships still operating, for which you need to prove that another country will admit you, but the transit visa has expired by the time you get your passage booked, so you can't leave but you can't stay either... The unnamed narrator happens on a dead man's suitcase and assumes his identity. He becomes fascinated with a woman he keeps seeing in cafes, looking for someone.
Transit is brilliant at capturing the mood of uncertainty and dread, and the agony of waiting. It's like Casablanca without Rick's Cafe and my favorite character, Louis ("I'm shocked, shocked that gambling is going on in here." "Your winnings, sir.") If you haven't seen Casablanca, I can recite it to you.
Does WWII seem like ancient times? There's a recent German film based on Seghers's novel that transposes the action to the present-day as immigrants desperately try to flee violence and poverty. Nothing changes, history is a loop.

  • This is Part 2 of my review. You can read Part 1 via my photo in the feed or read my full review directly at https://musicgoon.tumblr.com/post/190256221804/book-review-zhejiang-the-jerusalem-of-china

Here are five takeaways I wish to highlight after reading this book.

1. History must be shared.

Author Paul Hattaway shared his impetus for writing this book, and that was to document and show how God had been working in the Chinese Church. After reading this book, I believe it is a worthy way to show the glory of God. These stories will not be lost in obscurity and will go down as testaments to the grace of God.

2. The Gospel tells us to go.

The passion and purpose of the early missionaries are clear. The Gospel must be preached and people must be saved. I am ashamed of my evangelizing efforts here in America, and I am inspired to be more bold and courageous in doing the work of an evangelist.

3. Persecution is real.

What I appreciate most about this book is the way that it does not try to hide the persecution of God’s people. Families were torn apart. Marriages were broken. Lives were put on the line and taken for the sake of the Gospel. It is a testimony to the worth of Jesus Christ, and how He is more valuable than life itself.

4. There are ups and downs in church history.

While this book documents the highs of the church in Zhejiang, it also makes a point to show the lows. Revivals are met with setbacks. Growth is met with resistance. There is a sense of struggle that permeates the book. But it is a struggle that does not think twice or second-guess its mission.

5. The church will endure.

The book is fast-paced, and I found myself at the end when I thought I had only begun. There is hope offered in this book. Hope for Zhejiang, hope for China, hope for the world. And just like me, there is hope for every lost sinner to be saved by amazing grace.

💟
Jaka to piękna książka 😱🥰.
I ona. Starsza Pani która zimą dorobia sobie pilnując posiadłości mieszczuchów którzy wyjeżdżają na zimę do miasta... .
Czy to faktycznie zemsta zwierząt?
.

  • So love receiving my @tbb_box ! It just makes me simply so happy :) :) I heard about them in May last year & then placed my first order for a quarterly Cappacuino which I then immediately renewed for a quarterly Mocha! This was my first Mocha box and I was so excited to see it so full to the brim that there was no place for any kind of confetti - infact the 4th book came as a separate package outside the box!
Here's a pic of pretty much everything in the box - The Complete Unboxing which contains:
1) The Starless Sea along with it's exclusive @tbb_box jacket
2) The Fountains of Silence
3) The Ten Thousand Doors of January
4) Ninth House
5) The cutest trinket box
6) The 2nd end of the bookend
7) Enamel pin based on Night Circus & Starless Sea
8) Bookmark
9) Character cards
10) A Jigsaw Puzzle
11) A card from the author Erin Morgenstern
12) A sticker set which I simply couldn't fit into the picture because there was just no place :) Which book out of these 4 did you reach out for first?

While I was planning to start with the Ninth House but then I saw @thesnugglingbookaholic 's
story about thinking of planning a Starless Sea readalong & decided to join in & start with it instead! It's my first readalong and I am quite excited :) Yay!!!! #bookishlove #bookobsessed #booksofinstagram #book #bookish #bookishbox #bookishlife #bookworm #bookcommunity #booklover #read #reading #readersofinstagram #bibliophiles #bibliophile #bibliophilelife #unboxing #thebigbookbox #silentspaceshiddendoors #bookstagram

  • i selected some romantic reads for february ♥️
usually i don’t read contemporary fiction but i do like a romantic, heartwarming story every now & again. maybe i need a good cry. books are definitely how i tend to get that catharsis.
have you read any of these?
what is the last book to hurt your heart or make you cry?

  • i 👏🏻 love 👏🏻 erotic 👏🏻 literature 👏🏻
books are wonderful because they allow us to journey into magical worlds, back to our childhood, through history... and into the bed 😂
since i was a teen, my taste for eroticism in literature has grown & as an adult, i don’t have to hide these interests from *anyone* 😆
erotic literature is empowering & let’s face it—it’s really sexy. i don’t like purposeless smut; i like sex scenes with imagination & substance. the sex scenes in “nevernight” are unbearable & unrealistic. the sex in “50 shades” is repetitive & lacking in emotional chemistry.
but this erotic novel, “the claiming of sleeping beauty” by a.n. roquelaure (anne rice), is prefaced with such an important message about how wonderful erotica can be. a rich sex scene can make a poor book a lot better. 😉
i’m starting this one tonight & i’m ready for the passion. 🔥♥️
  • i 👏🏻 love 👏🏻 erotic 👏🏻 literature 👏🏻
books are wonderful because they allow us to journey into magical worlds, back to our childhood, through history... and into the bed 😂

  • my heart longs for autumn, but I am also elated to watch it snow and sip coffee on this frigid sunday. is it snowing in your corner of the world?

  • is there an author whose books have let you down but you keep giving them a shot?
i brought this book, “the haunted” by danielle vega, home from the library but i don’t anticipate loving it. 😂 this author has disappointed me more than once, basically with every book written after her debut, “the merciless”
& it’s not for lack of trying. i *try* very hard to enjoy her books because i do enjoy the concepts behind them. but i always end up rolling my eyes & begging for it to be over 🤣
wish me luck with this one!
