  • @moodymixologist had the fun idea of making this week #GarnishWeek, and my love of garnishes should be obvious, so I was excited to participate!

Garnishes serve multiple purposes. They can affect the aroma and taste, but they also show craftsmanship and care, which provides a clue to the quality of the cocktail itself. It’s also a way to wow and excite the drinker before they’ve even taken their first sip 🍹

I’ll proudly admit that many of my garnishes are not practical, especially in a busy bar setting. But as home mixologists mostly creating cocktails for ourselves or friends & family, I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

There’s also ways to simplify the process. For example, use small cookie cutters to create fun citrus peel shapes to clip onto drinks, saving lots of intricate knife carving work (I’ve done snowflakes for Xmas drinks before). They can even be made ahead of time and kept in paper towel lined ziplock bags.

This cocktail was created by @tedkilgore of @plantershouse as a drink for those in the bartending industry 🍸 It has two ingredients celebrated by mixologists (and the first feared by some 😬) - Fernet Branca and Green Chartreuse, in an equal parts template that they also love.

@thebitterfairy has been training me to enjoy Fernet, and she shared this recipe with me since it’s a great way to convince anyone who’s apprehensive about it. If anything, the Chartreuse comes through the strongest in this sour, which is zippy & complex.

I enjoy using garnishes that relate to the drink, so I chose this one as a nod to it's industry roots ⚙️

Industry Sour
.
1 oz Fernet Branca (@fernetbranca)
1 oz Green Chartreuse (@chartreuse.fr)
1 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Simple Syrup

Shake vigorously with ice, then strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with an orange gear.

  • Today nothing special is being celebrated but the joy of being back with my family to share stories and experiences. So we decided to open the bottle of Yamazaki 12 years old that I brought back with me and toast with it!

The flavor really brings back memories from my time in Japan, living in the streets of Shinjuku, having a nice refreshing Mizuwari along with my meal after a day of exploring. Sharing this flavor and remembering the experience with my loved ones is certainly a great way to taste this whisky!

Long story aside, cheers everyone! And enjoy Japanese whisky, do not be like the people who scalp for it during the times of shortage to take advantage of the price. After all, Japanese Whisky is so different on its own to let people miss out on it :) 🥃🇯🇵

  • Our Cajun Bloody Mary spiced rim salt is heavily influenced by our time spent in New Orleans: hot, but oh-so-flavorful. It always bugged us that Bloody Mary cocktail salts at restaurants would be too mild - or so spicy, all you tasted was the heat (and not the drink). So we decided to make a spicy flavored salt that we'd want for our own kitchen and be proud to give to bartender friends as a foodie bar gift.

  • The secret to our rather sort-after CLOVER CLUB. Hand pressed pomegranate using a frozen reduction method. Pain in the butt to execute without looking like an extra in the Battle of Winterfell but luckily for you , all your need do is drink it. Doors open 5pm. No bookings, walk ins only.

  • Google Maps is right 98% of the time but there is a 2% chance  it will tell you silly things like @pch580 is closed today. Glad I stubbornly decided to come anyway, because it would have been a shame to miss out on the drinks here - some of the best in SF. Here is the delicious (and chuggable) Oh Snap: @sipsmith gin, sugar snap peas, manzanilla sherry, absinthe, citrus, tonic.

She’s just so wow!  This is: Frosted flake infused white devil #whiskey from new alchemy distillery, rancia tabacal sherry, rothman & winter peach liqueur, maple syrup, lemon, clarified milk. Yeah..Sooo YUM! I can’t wait to sit before her bar again and again. #cheers
